Tener Review
Tener (e>ie) = to have
Tengo = I have
tienes = you have
tiene = he or she has
tenemos = we have
tenéis = yall have
tienen = they have
Notice how the e changes to an
ie (e>ie) for all forms but
nosotros and vosotros. Also
the yo form tengo is irregular.
Tener & Temperature
ener doesn't mean to have
when used with the
following expressions:
ener calor. = To be hot.
ener frío. = To be cold.
Examples:
Yo tengo calor. = I am hot.
Tú tienes calor. = You are hot.
Ella tiene frío. = She is cold.
Nosotros tenemos frío. = We are cold.
Ellos tienen calor. = They are hot.
Notice how we don't see "have" in the
definitions. Weird right?
Estar = to be for locations and
temporary conditionsConjugations:
Yo estoy
Tú estás
Èl/ella/usted está
Nosotros estamos
vocotros estáis
Ellos/ellas están
Remember to use the correct accent mark.
4. Temporary Condition
Está + # = The Temperature
Remember to describe the
temperature you use "está" +
temperature.
Examples
La temperatura está 60 grados.
Hace fresco.
La temperatura está 85 grados.
Hace calor.
La temperatura está 45 grados.
Hace frío.
La temperatura está 35 grados.
Hace mucho frío.
Hace + Weather = Weather
Remember that to say it is windy,
cold, cool or hot outside, use
HACE + weather description
Examples
Hace frío. = It's cold.
Hace calor. = It's hot.
Hace fresco. = It's cool.
Hace viento. = It's windy.
Llevar = to wear
Costar = to cost
Take off the -ar at the end and
add:
Yo -o llevo
Tú -as llevas
El/ella/usted -a lleva
nosotros -amos llevamos
ellos/ellas -an llevan
Take off the -ar at the end and
add:
Yo -o llevo

Costar (o>ue) = to
cost or to be worth
Cuesta = it costs
Cuestan = they cost

Since the numbers are
adjectives, the numbers from
200-900 do agree in gender
with the nouns they modify:
200 casas: doscientas casas
800 tacos: ochocientos
tacos
500 faldas: quinientas
faldas
And for 200 blusas:
doscientas blusas
300 coats = ?
400 skirts = ?
600
Faltar = to need, missing or lack
If you like need or lack 2 things
(plural) use:
Me faltan doscientos dólares. = I
lack/need 200 dollars.
Te faltan doscientos colones. =
You 200 colones.
Le faltan las clases de español. =
He misses the Spanish classes.
Nos faltan los suéteres. = We
need the sweaters.
Les faltan las joyas. = They are
missing the jewels.
It does NOT act like other
verbs. Observe.
If you like one thing (singular) use:
Me falta el traje de baño. = I need
a bathing suit.
Te falta el abrigo. = You need a
coat.
Le falta un dólar. = He/she/it is
missing a dollar.
Nos falta la tarea.= We are
missing the homework.
Les falta la vacación = They need a
vacation.
Sobrar = to be left over
If you like need or lack 2 things
(plural) use:
Me sobran doscientos dólares. = ?
Te sobran doscientos colones. = ?
Le sobran las tortillas. = ?
Nos sobran los suéteres. = ?

  • 5. Tener Review Tener (e>ie) = to have Tengo = I have tienes = you have tiene = he or she has tenemos = we have tenéis = yall have tienen = they have Notice how the e changes to an ie (e>ie) for all forms but nosotros and vosotros. Also the yo form tengo is irregular.
  • 6. Tener & Temperature ener doesn't mean to have when used with the following expressions: ener calor. = To be hot. ener frío. = To be cold. Examples: Yo tengo calor. = I am hot. Tú tienes calor. = You are hot. Ella tiene frío. = She is cold. Nosotros tenemos frío. = We are cold. Ellos tienen calor. = They are hot. Notice how we don't see "have" in the definitions. Weird right?
  • 7. Estar = to be for locations and temporary conditionsConjugations: Yo estoy Tú estás Èl/ella/usted está Nosotros estamos vocotros estáis Ellos/ellas están Remember to use the correct accent mark. 4. Temporary Condition
  • 8. Está + # = The Temperature Remember to describe the temperature you use "está" + temperature. Examples La temperatura está 60 grados. Hace fresco. La temperatura está 85 grados. Hace calor. La temperatura está 45 grados. Hace frío. La temperatura está 35 grados. Hace mucho frío.
  • 9. Hace + Weather = Weather Remember that to say it is windy, cold, cool or hot outside, use HACE + weather description Examples Hace frío. = It's cold. Hace calor. = It's hot. Hace fresco. = It's cool. Hace viento. = It's windy.
  • 10. Llevar = to wear Costar = to cost Take off the -ar at the end and add: Yo -o llevo Tú -as llevas El/ella/usted -a lleva nosotros -amos llevamos ellos/ellas -an llevan Take off the -ar at the end and add: Yo -o llevo Tú -as llevas El/ella/usted -a lleva nosotros -amos llevamos ellos/ellas -an llevan Costar (o>ue) = to cost or to be worth Cuesta = it costs Cuestan = they cost

  • 13. #s and Adjective Agreement Since the numbers are adjectives, the numbers from 200-900 do agree in gender with the nouns they modify: 200 casas: doscientas casas 800 tacos: ochocientos tacos 500 faldas: quinientas faldas And for 200 blusas: doscientas blusas 300 coats = ? 400 skirts = ? 600
  • 14. Faltar = to need, missing or lack If you like need or lack 2 things (plural) use: Me faltan doscientos dólares. = I lack/need 200 dollars. Te faltan doscientos colones. = You 200 colones. Le faltan las clases de español. = He misses the Spanish classes. Nos faltan los suéteres. = We need the sweaters. Les faltan las joyas. = They are missing the jewels. It does NOT act like other verbs. Observe. If you like one thing (singular) use: Me falta el traje de baño. = I need a bathing suit. Te falta el abrigo. = You need a coat. Le falta un dólar. = He/she/it is missing a dollar. Nos falta la tarea.= We are missing the homework. Les falta la vacación = They need a vacation.
  • 15. Sobrar = to be left over If you like need or lack 2 things (plural) use: Me sobran doscientos dólares. = ? Te sobran doscientos colones. = ? Le sobran las tortillas. = ? Nos sobran los suéteres. = ? Les sobran las joyas. = ? It does NOT act like other verbs. Observe. If you like one thing (singular) use: Me sobra el traje de baño. = ? Te sobra el abrigo. = ? Le sobra un dólar. = ? Nos sobra la salsa. = ? Les sobra el taco. = ?
