1. Hello There,
I was born in Lampung, April 7th 1979. I love visual arts and music since I was a kid. I did
painting, collages, making music with friends in a rock band, I guess I was the definition of
“anak nongkrong MTV” back then.
From Lampung, I moved to Bandung, continued my study. I took a business class, majoring
in accounting in Adventist University of Indonesia (UNAI). I graduated in 2002. In 2014, I took
my master class in the same campus, majoring in marketing, but for some reasons, I
dropped the class while I was preparing my final thesis in 2016.
Back in 2002, after graduated, I work as a freelance writer in the most controversy youth
culture magazine in Bandung, named Ripple Magazine. I did not looking for a job as an
accountant, I just want to have my own business.
2004. I opened my own visual design studio, Eyesee Studio. We’re working on graphic
design, photography, and video making for personal or company needs in Indonesia.
2009. I took photography class, in Win-Initiative, a stock photo agency based in New York.
Then I got supported by Nikon and Broncolor lighting. Eversince, I started to having abroad
clients. I made editorial, illustration, advertising, for companies around the world.
2011. I wrote two tutorial photography books, that nationally published by Elex Media
Komputindo, titled Simply Photography Indoor Portrait Series and Still Life Series, continued
with the Android Apps.
2014. I opened community based free photography class, named Eyesee Photo Class. The
class held once a week with 40-50 students every batch. Now, we’re entering 15th batch.
2016. I started to working on my personal projects, such as: painting, analog photography,
and I wrote two self published books, titled Bandung Jualan and Be Pung Tana. The projects
continued with another publishes, exhibitions, workshops in campus, art galleries.
2017. I wrote my third tutorial photography book, titled Creative Lighting, that (again)
nationally published by Elex Media Komputindo.
2018. I took photography classes at Kelas Pagi Militan and Pannafoto
Institute, Jakarta. I learned how to make photography as the way to tell stories.
2019. Telling stories through photography were not enough, I started to making short
movies, that I posted on Youtube. I already making movies on 2003, but in 2019, I made it
more seriously. I wrote the stories, picking the casts, taking shots, edited, and published. It
was like my “one man show” projects.
2020. In order to bringing my “film making projects” further, I took a film-making class by
Ernest Prakasa. I learned how to make a commercial movies, writing and directing. Then I
wrote four movies scripts. But suddenly, the pandemic era came.
2021. I could not bring my scripts into a film, then I wrote a novel, titled Cinta Biasa, it’s
about teenage love story.
I love telling stories, through photographs, movies, music, novel, and podcast. Podcast is the
latest platform that I use to tell stories. Combined them together will become a great
artwork, to reaching and having engagement with others.
Best,
Hermawan Wicaksono
