      NW 86th Street Corridor Streetscape
      Hitchcock Design Group   Throughout the years, the downtown core was dispersed and
      Client: City of Clive    multiple uses became scattered throughout Clive. In a response
                               to reinvigorate the Northwest 86th Street corridor as a central
      Location: Clive, Iowa    destination, the City’s leadership recognized the importance of
      Size: 1 mile             creating a master plan for the redevelopment of the corridor.
      Project Type:            The master plan focused on strategies for improving traffic flow,
              Public           land-use, and linkage between the corridor and intersecting
              Urban Design     greenbelt trail. The streetscape improvements were organized into
              Iowa DOT         three implementation phases, with the first phase going out for bid
                               in Spring 2009. This phase includes the Clive main entry sign, the
                               Crossing Guard Shelter, End Piers at every intersection, paving
                               enhancements and landscape improvements.

Virginia Street TIF District Improvements
Client: City of Crystal Lake       In the fall of 2006, the City of Crystal Lake engaged Hitchcock
Location: Crystal Lake, Illinois   Design Group to develop a strategy to enhance the Virginia Street
                                   Corridor. Project scope included studying the area, determining
Size: 1 mile                       opportunities for improvements and creating a Master Plan to guide
Keywords:                          development. The resulting Streetscape Master Plan summarized
      Public                       recommended streetscape improvements, inclusion of public art,
      Urban Design                 enhanced parking facilities and the analysis and recommendations
      IDOT                         for revitalizing the Virginia Street Corridor.
                                   Phase 1 construction documents have been completed, which
                                   includes gateway monuments, signage, planters, enhanced paving
                                   and street trees. Further phases will be implemented as funding from
                                   the Tax Increment Financing District become available.

Fox River Corridor
Hitchcock Design Group          Having acted as the lead consultant throughout multiple phases
Client: City of Waukesha        of development, Hitchcock Design Group was responsible for
                                facilitating consensus through a series of public design charrettes
Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin   during the Master Plan phase. The challenge was developing a
Size: 2.5 miles                 design that satisfied a multitude of users, balancing wants and
                                needs within budget constraints, and relying not only on public

Hitchcock Design Group          The Calumet River Corridor is a unique ecosystem located in the

      Technological Institute Plaza Replacement
      Hitchcock Design Group              An original Holabird and Root design in 1942, the Technological
      Client: Northwestern University     Institute plaza was renovated in the 1970s to eliminate almost all
                                          of the stairs for accessibility. Hitchcock Design Group was hired
      Location: Evanston, Illinois        to design, document and provide construction phase services to
      Size: .75 acres                     renovate and restore this plaza, which included paver replacement,
                                          stair restoration, new planting material and new lighting while still
      Project Type:
                                          providing for ADA accessibility.

              Education                   Numerous underground obstructions created interesting construction
              Historical/Rehabilitation   challenges. The limited space and need to maintain building access
                                          required phased construction that is scheduled to finish in Spring
                                          2009.

      Lincolnshire Commons
      Hitchcock Design Group             Hitchcock Design Group was commissioned by DLR Group to
      Client: DLR Group                  design, document and coordinate the landscape architecture for
                                         this mixed-use, retail and restaurant center. The design team
      Location: Lincolnshire, Illinois   faced a complex village review process and high municipal design
      Size: 18.5 acres                   expectations. The scope of work included exhibits to be used to
                                         secure zoning changes and PUD approval, as well as construction of

                                         the common area streetscapes, buffers, plaza areas, and site design

                                         for several of the individual restaurants and retail establishments.

              Native Plantings           The resulting plan offers a pilot program for creating a native riparian

Hitchcock Design Group        When the University of Illinois at Chicago was expanding south of

      Settlers Ridge
      Hitchcock Design Group            Settlers Ridge is a planned community incorporating traditional
      Client: Kimball Hill Homes        neighborhood development of 2,470 mixed residential homes,
                                        neighborhood parks, commercial development, an elementary
      Location: Sugar Grove, Illinois   school, community center and central park. The community is
      Size: 1300 acres                  designed to encourage walking, bicycling and interaction among
                                        residents by integrating an extensive trail system.

              Private                   Hitchcock Design Group designed and documented all the landscape
              Real Estate Residential   improvements within the 540-acre phase one and two developments.
              Parks and Recreation      Key features of the phase one development include entry
              Native Plantings          monuments, vehicular bridge, pedestrian bridge, four neighborhood
                                        parks, a community park, clubhouse, natural areas, multi-use trails

      2007 Chicago Park District Playgrounds
      Hitchcock Design Group         The 2007 Districtwide Playground Renovation Program includes
      Client: City of Chicago        nineteen playgrounds. The team led by Civiltech Engineering and
                                     Hitchcock Design Group is responsible for transforming playgrounds into
      Location: Chicago, Illinois    engaging, attractive, safe, and accessible play environments for kids and
      Size: 19 playgrounds           families of all abilities.
      Project Type:                  The park renovations include an older children’s play structure, a tot
              Public                 lot, swings for both age groups, rubberized play surface, site furniture,

      Friendship Village PUD, Phase 1 and Phase 2
      Hitchcock Design Group           With a growing retirement population and a continuing demand
      Client: Friendship Village       for such high-quality facilities, Friendship Village made plans for
                                       expansion. Hitchcock Design Group was asked to produce the PUD
      Location: Schaumburg, Illinois   landscape plans for all of the site improvements.The locations and
      Size: 60 acres                   species of over 3,000 existing trees were documented and closely
                                       aligned the proposed improvements to preserve the existing trees.
      Project Type:
              Private                  Phase 1 consisted of townhome facilities for independent living and
              Lifecare                 included plantings, decorative paving, grading, native planting areas,
                                       stone retaining walls and the preservation of existing trees.
                                       Phase 2 included three water fountains, a faux bridge, a sea wall,
                                       shade structures, extensive plantings and wetland improvements.

Roger Smith Memorial Garden
Hitchcock Design Group           Friendship Village had a vision for a memorial garden for Roger
Client: Friendship Village       Smith, a former resident and Board Member of the premier senior liv-
                                 ing community. They commissioned Hitchcock Design Group to turn
Location: Schaumburg, Illinois   an under-utilized courtyard space into a multi-use outdoor gathering
Size: 1 acre                     area that would provide opportunities for socialization and a variety
                                 of activities for the residents of this retirement community.
Project Type:
        Private                  The new space is a huge success with the residents and includes a
        Lifecare                 9-hole putting green, shuffle board courts, several seating areas and
                                 a large overhead trellis. Various native plantings were included to
                                 provide year-round interest in the space.

Higgins, RLA, ASLA NW 86th Street Corridor Streetscape Hitchcock Design Group Throughout the years, the downtown core was dispersed and Client: City of Clive multiple uses became scattered throughout Clive. In a response to reinvigorate the Northwest 86th Street corridor as a central Location: Clive, Iowa destination, the City’s leadership recognized the importance of Size: 1 mile creating a master plan for the redevelopment of the corridor. Project Type: The master plan focused on strategies for improving traffic flow, Public land-use, and linkage between the corridor and intersecting Urban Design greenbelt trail. The streetscape improvements were organized into Iowa DOT three implementation phases, with the first phase going out for bid in Spring 2009. This phase includes the Clive main entry sign, the Crossing Guard Shelter, End Piers at every intersection, paving enhancements and landscape improvements. 2 Urban Design

Higgins, RLA, ASLA Virginia Street TIF District Improvements Client: City of Crystal Lake In the fall of 2006, the City of Crystal Lake engaged Hitchcock Location: Crystal Lake, Illinois Design Group to develop a strategy to enhance the Virginia Street Corridor. Project scope included studying the area, determining Size: 1 mile opportunities for improvements and creating a Master Plan to guide Keywords: development. The resulting Streetscape Master Plan summarized Public recommended streetscape improvements, inclusion of public art, Urban Design enhanced parking facilities and the analysis and recommendations IDOT for revitalizing the Virginia Street Corridor. Phase 1 construction documents have been completed, which includes gateway monuments, signage, planters, enhanced paving and street trees. Further phases will be implemented as funding from the Tax Increment Financing District become available. Urban Design 3

Higgins, RLA, ASLA Fox River Corridor Hitchcock Design Group Having acted as the lead consultant throughout multiple phases Client: City of Waukesha of development, Hitchcock Design Group was responsible for facilitating consensus through a series of public design charrettes Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin during the Master Plan phase. The challenge was developing a Size: 2.5 miles design that satisfied a multitude of users, balancing wants and needs within budget constraints, and relying not only on public Project Type: improvements but private sector investment. The design team Public consisted of market analysts, hydrologists, civil engineers, and Urban Hitchcock Design Group’s landscape architecture design staff. The Riverwalk development of the riverwalk has brought the region’s rich history alive and created an outstanding centerpiece for the community of Waukesha. Urban Design 5

Higgins, RLA, ASLA Technological Institute Plaza Replacement Hitchcock Design Group An original Holabird and Root design in 1942, the Technological Client: Northwestern University Institute plaza was renovated in the 1970s to eliminate almost all of the stairs for accessibility. Hitchcock Design Group was hired Location: Evanston, Illinois to design, document and provide construction phase services to Size: .75 acres renovate and restore this plaza, which included paver replacement, stair restoration, new planting material and new lighting while still Project Type: providing for ADA accessibility. Private Education Numerous underground obstructions created interesting construction Historical/Rehabilitation challenges. Higgins, RLA, ASLA Lincolnshire Commons Hitchcock Design Group Hitchcock Design Group was commissioned by DLR Group to Client: DLR Group design, document and coordinate the landscape architecture for this mixed-use, retail and restaurant center. The design team Location: Lincolnshire, Illinois faced a complex village review process and high municipal design Size: 18.5 acres expectations. The scope of work included exhibits to be used to secure zoning changes and PUD approval, as well as construction of Project Type: the common area streetscapes, buffers, plaza areas, and site design Private for several of the individual restaurants and retail establishments. Real Estate Commercial Native Plantings The resulting plan offers a pilot program for creating a native riparian edge for the site’s Lake Desantis, and offers unique solutions allowing the owner to maximize building square footage while keeping site views to the retail uses open. 2 Real Estate

Higgins, RLA, ASLA Settlers Ridge Hitchcock Design Group Settlers Ridge is a planned community incorporating traditional Client: Kimball Hill Homes neighborhood development of 2,470 mixed residential homes, neighborhood parks, commercial development, an elementary Location: Sugar Grove, Illinois school, community center and central park. The community is Size: 1300 acres designed to encourage walking, bicycling and interaction among residents by integrating an extensive trail system. The team led by Civiltech Engineering and Hitchcock Design Group is responsible for transforming playgrounds into Location: Chicago, Illinois engaging, attractive, safe, and accessible play environments for kids and Size: 19 playgrounds families of all abilities. Project Type: The park renovations include an older children’s play structure, a tot Public lot, swings for both age groups, rubberized play surface, site furniture, Parks and Recreation lighting and additional landscaping. Higgins, RLA, ASLA Friendship Village PUD, Phase 1 and Phase 2 Hitchcock Design Group With a growing retirement population and a continuing demand Client: Friendship Village for such high-quality facilities, Friendship Village made plans for expansion. Hitchcock Design Group was asked to produce the PUD Location: Schaumburg, Illinois landscape plans for all of the site improvements.The locations and Size: 60 acres species of over 3,000 existing trees were documented and closely aligned the proposed improvements to preserve the existing trees. Project Type: Private Phase 1 consisted of townhome facilities for independent living and Lifecare included plantings, decorative paving, grading, native planting areas, stone retaining walls and the preservation of existing trees. Phase 2 included three water fountains, a faux bridge, a sea wall, shade structures, extensive plantings and wetland improvements. 2 Healthcare

Higgins, RLA, ASLA Roger Smith Memorial Garden Hitchcock Design Group Friendship Village had a vision for a memorial garden for Roger Client: Friendship Village Smith, a former resident and Board Member of the premier senior liv- ing community. They commissioned Hitchcock Design Group to turn Location: Schaumburg, Illinois an under-utilized courtyard space into a multi-use outdoor gathering Size: 1 acre area that would provide opportunities for socialization and a variety of activities for the residents of this retirement community. Project Type: Private The new space is a huge success with the residents and includes a Lifecare 9-hole putting green, shuffle board courts, several seating areas and a large overhead trellis. Various native plantings were included to provide year-round interest in the space. Healthcare 3
