Where do I go when I don't know where to start? How can I enlighten you the reader, about my
journey through the dark? I guess I'll start by telling you about myself. I have gained a lot of
wisdom in 23 years of my life, but I've never really shared my life story with anyone until now. Do I

Making good choices opens my life up to opportunities such as becoming an engineer. Until I get my
high school diploma from YouthBuild, my opportunities to make money are limited. I may be
poor in material items, but I'm rich in my mind and heart. YouthBuild is also going to help me
learn the construction trade, which will help me earn an income and pay for college. My Mom is
very happy with my choices and she is looking forward to me obtaining my high school diploma.

Life Lessons Learned
What's a lesson you have learned in your life? Well, you have probably learned more than one
lesson in your life, and I definitely learn lessons everyday, but one that has stuck with me is that
Jesus is the only perfect person, and that I shouldn't feel like I am lacking perfection, because it
isn't possible. I can still strive for it, but I won't get all the way there. Some people may find that
discouraging, but I find that an encouragement. That is because I know that when I fail, I will know
that I almost did something impossible. Other people might see that I'm saying that they will fail,
and they will. The truth can hurt, but I am (mostly) an honest person. I wouldn't lie about this, and
you just need to accept it, no one can be perfect, only Jesus. Reading the Holy Bible has taught me
many things. One of my favorite verses is 2 Samuel 22:31, "As for God, his way is perfect; the
LORD'S word is flawless; he shields all that take refuge in him." I had a bad day, and opened to a
random verse, and found this. One day in fourth grade we had SBAC testing and I had decided to
take my Bible to school to read after I finished, seeing as I usually finished before the end of the
day. It was a little bit after 10 o'clock, and Mr. Porter had given us a break. I was by myself sitting
in the grass near the backstop on the west side of the field. I was having a bad day, being told I
was worthless, so I took my Bible outside and opened my Bible to a random place and started
reading. I smelled the grass and felt it under me. The warm May air hugged me like a comforting
parent. The grass was slightly wet and the book was heavy in my my hands, the design on the
front cover was cool under my fingertips. My fuzzy jacket and sweatpants against my waist and
legs. I heard the kids playing around me and the wind whistling through my ears. The pages are
thin in my hands as I open to a random place and start reading, seeing only the words. I hear a

There are so many events that change one's life that it is rather difficult to try and decipher which
of those events are most important. Each event changes a different aspect of your life, molding
how one's personality turns out. One of these events occurred when I was about twelve years old
and I attempted to steal from a Six Flags amusement park. My reasoning for stealing wasn't that I
didn't have the money, or even that I wanted what I stole all that badly, it was that all of my friends

Then out of nowhere, the ride releases and starts roaring around the track. As always the ride ended
far too soon and we set off for the next ride, "Twister Two."
On the way to "Twister Two" one of my friends suddenly had a candy bar in his possession. When
he was asked how he got it, he simply replied, "I stole it." It was so amazing to me that he could
do that, and act as if it was no big deal. To me stealing would be a thing that needed to be planned
and executed, but to him it was just another place that he ripped off. He explained that it is easy
to do, "you just grab what you want, wait 'til no one's looking, and then walk out." This is when I
first began pondering the idea of stealing. I had never stole before because I knew it was against
my morals, but there was that rebel in me that wanted to try it. He, on the other hand, had probably
stolen so many times that he could do it with his eyes closed, and he had never been caught. Lucky

My Leadership Lessons Learned
Upon finishing this course, I have learned an important lesson to be a manager and a leader of my
own life to lead others successfully. First, I have learned to manage and align my actions with my

Here is a time where I've learned my lesson. I was like a mini Dora the Explorer except, I was a brat.
I was so picky, such a princess, I got myself in trouble every day, I'd make everyone so stressed

way, and my way only. I felt if I was the who was always right and I was the smartmouth. I was the

learn something from the authors various subject matters, which could be used in the readers' own
lives. I have chosen four essays that I have read this term from which I have learned from. The four
essays I decided on are: "Shooting an Elephant" by George Orwell, "Sex, Lies, and Conversation" by
Deborah Tannen, "What Really Scares Us" by David Ropeik, and "Delusions of Grandeur" by Henry

When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in

one blanket that the jailor had given to me was not enough to keep me warm in a place so
cold. The privacy I had was very little. The shower and toilet was located in the corner of
the cell but they were not isolated enough to where the other inmates could not see me.
I undressed and dressed inside the shower to have some privacy. I even tried to have
privacy by hanging up a blanket from one corner of a wall stand to another but I got in
trouble by the jailor. All of these things just seemed so horrible and degrading to me.
My first few nights being in the cell called J–1 was scary. There were three other
woman in the cell that was always yelling or fighting over ridiculous things like the
television. Around the corner I could hear the accused killer "Cowboy Mike" always
singing the country songs that he liked so much or the banging of his coffee cup against
the bars of the cell when he was angry. One time he even used the shower curtain rod to
try to escape from his line cell. Even further down the line there was an accused rapist
and of course he had to put his two cents in by always screaming that the devil was

coming after him. All I could think is how scary this was and I wanted out. Not two
days from now nor thirty days I wanted out right then!

This is assignment was one of the first writing assignments I have written since graduating high
school in 2005. While writing this essay I learned several things about myself and become
extremely excited when I learned I had earned 8 out of 10 points after submitting this assignment.
This first part of writing this essay was to pick a topic to write about. I decided to choose acne for
the simple reason when I was growing up I had acne but finally grew out of it. After I decide on
the topic I had to gather the information for the essay itself which was not that easy. I had to gather
the information from different websites and was also able to find celebrates that revealed their

began writing which was difficult at first but once I was able to get started it seemed to become

Personal Lessons Learned
From an early age I was taught the importance of personal integrity and the importance of being
adaptable and prepared for any stressful situation that life may throw at you. During my time as a
boy scout I was constantly taught to be prepared and to also to always be at the service of others.
At the end of our camping trips we would be told repeatedly to "leave this place, better than when

Before third grade, I had always viewed the concept of education abstractly: as a thing people do to
get a job and earn money. Because of this, I didn't fully understand the importance of education, even

today. Out of five of my peers, they all chose the essay to do with my bullying. My peers thought
that the first two paragraphs on my essay needed to be taken out because it was lot of plot. They
wanted me to get straight to the point like I was in the third paragraph. They wanted me to make a
stronger thesis and install more imagery into the essay. My grammar needed improvement and so
did my vocabulary. They loved when I talked about how this experience shaped me today and how
it has helped me a better person overall. My peers noticed and really liked the fact that I mentioned

I thought this feedback was not helpful at all and very opinionated. I think that my story was
very good and it would look good in the eyes of colleges. One comment that was helpful was that I
should add a specific event. This helped me narrow my essay from a broader topic to a more
detailed one. The feedback I did use was to delete the paragraphs that did not explain the story or
were just boring and just get straight to the point like I did in the last paragraph. I also decided to
accept the feedback on adding a specific event that had in my life and how it really changed me. I

My Writing Lessons I Learned
All these theories and strategies I learned about were implemented through the frequent writing
assignments. As a first year, I have had little experience with writing research based papers. I
frequently wrote in high school, but never used APA format. I had never written an annotated
bibliography before, and it assisted me in organizing my research. I learned that writing is never
finished; as a perfectionist, I often struggled with my longer papers. As an undergraduate, I need
to give room for failure and accept it. I worked hard in this class, and I like to think my grades
reflect it. This class taught me the importance of rubrics and how to stay on top of things. I will not
