Thoughts on Microsoft Hololens
• Much improved over 2015 version, at Build 12 months ago
• Hardware is quickly progressing, Microsoft has created the headable PC
• Hololens is a 32 bit Intel architecture, with MSFT Holographic Processing Unit
• 64 GB of Flash, 2 GB RAM, Windows 10, 2-3 hours active use, passive cooling
• Hololens Workshop (shortened) was insigheful, 2 layered development
process, Wifi deployment of models
• Interaction with 5 other Hololens users via Avatar and in a game
Summary: Hololens is a platform by itself. Needs new software to
take advantage of it. Developer productivity is crucial.

• Good to see Microsoft creating its 1st platform (Surface was a response to iPad)
• Almost as all energy went to hardware, Microsoft is now looking for customer
lead use cases to get to commercialization
• Enterprises get the value, massive number of large and small beta customers
• The platform ships with a productive development platform, a huge bonus
• Pricepoint with $3000 still very high, but will com down over time
• Speed to build software will be critical, lower price will see more default
Windows usage update (e.g. for extended display).
Summary: Congrats to Microsoft to its 1st complete own platform.
But software matters, needs to build it.
