This is a part of my evaluation that I made on PowerPoint presentation about the type of people that would be attracted to my indie rock music magazine.
1. WHO WOULD BE
ATTRACTED TO MY
MEDIA PRODUCT?
By Hollie Kubacki
2. AGE & GENDER
The age of my media product would probably age around 15-21.
People of this age will be attracted to my music magazine ‘HiT’ because
most of the lexis will be conversational and not full of
complex/mature/formal vocabulary. However I will only appeal to this very
niche audience of people in this age gap that are very devoted to indie
rock music, as my magazine isn’t very colourful inside despite having a
very artistic looking front cover and doesn’t give away any freebies. The
design of my product is original and quite unconventional because I would
often have the text rotated so you will have to read my product at different
angles. I have done this so my magazine requires readers to be persistent
and keen to read about indie rock, which I think indie rock fans of this age
would be and have got the time to be. Also my magazine will feature 1 or
2 pages about what indie rock artists are wearing at the moment to guide
or inspire young adults on finding their personal identity. The gender of
my target audience I would like to think is unisex or perhaps more female
due to the artiness of how my photographs are edited and my overall
3. INTERESTS & LIFESTYLE
My target audience should have a keen interest in indie rock music as
it will always feature some unpopular indie bands/artists as some
well known indie rock artists such as Arctic Monkeys/The 1975. Also
my target audience may be interested in art and photography as my
music magazine is original in the overall look because it challenges
many conventions, like having the barcode in the bottom left/right
hand corner of the front cover. I would think their lifestyle of my
readers would be quite relaxed but busy during the day as I expect
they are still in education from age 15 to 21. So they would take the
time in evenings or at weekends to read HiT. Their social-economic
group would be working-middle class as the text of my magazine is
not ponsy or very complex. Also I would think an upper class
audience would probably read magazines like Tatler that truly appeal
to just their class and their interests and type of music that I would
assume is either pop/classical.
4. PENUMBRA EFFECT
The penumbra effect is a small group outside my target audience that
could enjoy my magazine.
I generally think my magazine appeals to a young audience of people
that are devoted indie rock fans. However there could be some people
that would only read HiT due to the style of the images and not be
interested in indie rock music, but have a great passion for art and
design or photography. This person could be a lot older than 21 as
they are not reading my magazine because of the content, but
reading it to look at the pictures and overall look of my music
magazine.
