Pros to using linkedin:
– Easy to research and message
– Search features helps you discover things about your
connections
– Lets you stay connected to people professionally and
follow what they are doing and who they are
connected to
– Recruiters/Companies use this tool to find candidates

• Average user spends an average of 15 hours and 33 minutes on
Facebook per month
• Pros to using Facebook to network:
• Average user has 130 friends and adds 8 new ones a month
• Average user sends 8 friend requests a month
• Employers/Recruiters use facebook to get pieces of
information about you to separate you from the other
candidates (Photo, connections, what are you talking
about?, etc.)
• Job seekers can see what their friends do and leverage that
information more than they have already.

• Clean profile
• Update your profile
• Post industry related news
• Tell your network you are seeking a position without
sounding desperate
• Use your network to send private messages to
targets
• Show people you are working hard to find your next
position
• Only connect to people you have met; Do not accept
or invite people who you do not know
• Download your personal contact list into the linkedin

Reasons you should use Twitter:
– Learn new things; Get new ideas
– Meet new people
– Build a better brand
– Follow your community and see where
others are going to network
– Speak about your passion to draw others to
know you more
12. Managing where you have applied and
turning it into an interview
• When applying make sure:
– Prove you have the right experience in the resume
submitted
– Do your research on the company and/or the manager
• Track positions you apply to
• Never allow someone to submit you somewhere
without knowing where
• Use your network to get your resume seen
• Offer references before being asked
14. Interviewing 101
– Wear a suit ; Don’t ask if it’s okay to dress down
– Bring questions to the table
– If you don’t have experience, talk about what you do have and
how it relates
– Be on time
– Do your research on who is interviewing you
– Get their cards and/or email addresses for thank you notes later
– Build a rapport with interviewer quickly
– Be prepared for behavioral questions and give examples that’s
relevant if needed
– Don’t be afraid to make sure you understand what they are
looking for in their question before you answer
– Ask each person how you did / next steps

source of information on people. Use this site to find all published info on a
person.
• Are you checking Craigslist for opportunities? Companies who do not pay fees to
post may put an ad out there. You can also see what companies are looking for an
intern to fill your unemployed time with usable experience to add to your resume.
• http://www.meetup.com/ - join groups in your community and industry to attend
and network
• Indeed.com is a good site that pulls most postings out there cumulatively
