Today we have visitors from a Turkey. Therefore, we have made a presentation of the Danish Library Association and our special organization's structure. We will also present the Danish think tank Future Libraries and their study Economic Value of Public Libraries Danish Library Association Danish Library Association has a special association structure of library professionals as well as local politicians on the Council. The President is always politicians and local politicians always constitute the majority. I think this mix of politicians and library professionals Works in a constructive way. Because the professionals inspire the politicians and the politicians give a good insight into how we need to prioritize. And other times it functions inversely. So I hope we also in the future will be able to get this symbiosis to function and that local politicians want to put as much thought into the matter and will work in our Board, like they do today. See the presentation Libraries of the Future – Knowledge, debate and Network The Danish Think Tank has the ambition to: • Produce knowledge, analysis and cross-disciplinary activities about the future role of the libraries • Generate professional, public and political debate and awareness of the role of libraries now and in the future A bottom-up initiative The Danish libraries face many challenges such as digitalization and changes in expectations and demands on both physical and digital services; lack of public awareness of library services, changes in library user behavior, lack of political awareness and changes in the role of the librarian. The Think Tank was initiated by the Danish Library Association (DB). The Think Tank is a two-year project, started October 2012, and co-financed by the participating libraries, library organizations and central library players The Economic Value of Public Libraries The Danish Think Tank Libraries of the Future & Copenhagen Economics has conducted the first study on the economic impact of the Danish public library. The Danish public libraries provide multiple services to the Danish public today, which overall seems to be well received by the public. However, the contributions are often measured in terms of library use (e.g. how many books were borrowed) and user satisfaction surveys, which are far from adequate when we want to discuss the role libraries play in modern society. This study digs deeper and provide the first assessment of the economic value of the public libraries in Denmark. Read more UK version See the presentation www.biblioteksdebat.dk

Jason Vit's (Literacy Hubs Manager, National Literacy Trust) presentation to the CILIP 2017 Conference in Manchester #CILIPConf17 National Literacy Trust Hubs are place-based solutions to intergenerational low literacy. Five are now operating in the UK. The Hubs harness community assets to address poverty and joblessness through campaigning, influencing and supporting literacy attitudes and behaviours. We target wards, groups and communities most at risk of low literacy. Partnerships are key to our Hub model. The National Literacy Trust link local authorities, libraries, sporting and cultural organisations, faith and voluntary community groups, as well as businesses, health and education organisations. This presentation will outline the Hub approach, look at some of the data used to identify groups in greatest need and highlight a few case studies as examples.

Dr Konstantina Martzoukou's (Senior Lecturer and PG Programme Leader for Information Management, Robert Gordon University) This paper presents the research findings of ‘Lost in Information? Syrian new Scots Information Literacy Way-finding practices’ research project, which was funded by the Information Literacy Group (ILG) of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. The research was conducted via semi-structured interviews with Local Council Leads for Syrian Integration and focus groups with Syrian refugees in the North of Scotland. The research explored Syrian refugees’ ‘ways of knowing’ for addressing critical social inclusion needs (e.g. housing, welfare, education, benefits, employability, rights and entitlements), the barriers (e.g. English language, socio-cultural differences) and enablers (local community support, new technologies and media) they encounter and the characteristics of current information services available. The paper makes a set of recommendations on how to best aid Syrian newcomers in their resettlement, adaptation and social inclusion by supporting them with added-value local information services

Summary from presentations by Michel Steen-Hansen at a HIBOLIRE seminar in Copenhagen, December 14-15, 2009 Will the library spirit continue in the future? Yes….. – if we redefine the Library in a political context The question then is, how to make the political decision-makers understand, promote and finance these changes. I think our major challenges just now is to describe a new narrative frame to get public recognition New narrative frame for the libraries We need to create a new narrative frame, or should I say, create a definition for what the modern library is and we need to keep debating how to describe it. We need to develop strategies to gain access to the politicians to convince them of the continued relevance of libraries in modern society. See the hole Summary http://biblioteksdebat.blogspot.com/2009/12/will-library-spirit-continue-in-future.html

David McMenemy's (Lecturer and Course Director, University of Strathclyde) presentation to the CILIP 2017 Conference in Manchester #CILIPConf17 The presentation provides an overview of some of the key challenges the profession is facing and will continue to face in the modern era that confront our ethical values. With myriad challenges including protecting privacy and freedom of access to information, and the growing use of volunteers and philanthropy in service delivery, the profession will increasingly face calls to clearly address what it stands for in some key policy areas. The presentation will consider the nature of these challenges, and consider some of the potential solutions.

Diana Gerald's (BookTrust CEO) presentation to the CILIP 2017 Conference in Manchester #CILIPConf17 The Bookstart programme is now in its 25th year. It is a unique partnership between BookTrust, Arts Council England, the Welsh Government, publishers across the UK and every local authority across England and Wales. Activity in Northern Ireland is localised, and growing.Within each authority are other unique partnerships between libraries, health visitors, children’s centres, early years settings, cultural organisations and other services. By working together they ensure that every child’s reading journey is supported from birth through programmes which include the gifting of high quality books, resources and expert messaging.Abigail will explore what multi-agency working entails and its benefits as they relate to changes taking place across local government, and will provide library practitioners with a toolkit for working with partner agencies. A short film will include examples of local authorities who are putting children, families and reading at the centre of services by working together through the Bookstart programme

In our research paper titled "Qualitative Analysis on Tax Evasion and Reasons for Reluctance to Join ATL in Pakistan," we delve into the intricate dynamics of tax compliance and explore the underlying reasons why individuals in Pakistan might hesitate to become a part of the Active Taxpayer List (ATL) within the framework of business law and taxation. With a multidisciplinary approach, our team of five researchers embarked on an in-depth exploration of tax evasion behaviors and the factors influencing them. Through qualitative analysis, we aimed to unravel the complex interplay of socio-economic, cultural, and institutional factors shaping tax compliance attitudes among Pakistani taxpayers. Drawing on a diverse range of qualitative research methods, including interviews, focus groups, and content analysis, we gathered rich insights from a diverse sample of individuals representing various sectors of the economy. By immersing ourselves in the lived experiences and perceptions of taxpayers, tax advisors, and legal experts, we uncovered nuanced perspectives on tax evasion practices and attitudes toward ATL membership. Our findings highlight the multifaceted nature of tax evasion in Pakistan, shedding light on both the motivations driving non-compliance and the barriers to ATL enrollment. From perceived inefficiencies in the tax system to cultural norms and trust deficits in governmental institutions, our research identifies a myriad of factors contributing to tax evasion behavior and reluctance to join ATL. Furthermore, our study offers valuable implications for policymakers, tax authorities, and business stakeholders seeking to enhance tax compliance and foster a culture of transparency and accountability in Pakistan's taxation landscape. By addressing the underlying drivers of tax evasion and promoting the benefits of ATL membership, policymakers can design more effective strategies to broaden the tax base and promote sustainable economic development. In conclusion, our research paper represents a comprehensive endeavor to deepen our understanding of tax compliance dynamics in Pakistan and elucidate the complexities surrounding ATL enrollment. By unraveling the intricacies of tax evasion behaviors and attitudes, we hope to contribute to informed policymaking and foster a culture of tax compliance and integrity in Pakistan's business and taxation environment.
