Evaluation question (2)
1. EVALUATION QUESTION (2) HOW
EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION
OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND
ANCILLARY TEXT?
By Hussein
2. Our Task
We was assigned was to create a five minute short film.
However, individually we had to complete an ancillary task
where we had to create a film review (by Little white lies) and
a film poster in order to promote our short film. Whilst
carrying out these tasks I had to ensure I was aware of the
codes and conventions associate with my chosen genre
which was a drama and had to incorporate it into my ancillary
tasks.
3. How my poster meet conventions
The tagline gives away the
plot as it stats “The only way
out is fitting in” as the can be
Most associated with high school
Student where at the time
Being cool and ‘fitting in’ is the
Most important thing in their life.
The background colour
Is black and is serious
Colour. As I did this due
To my short film being
A hybrid of suspense
And drama. Thereby the
Black background does
Follow the conventions.
In order to be taken as a
Serious drama.
The image shows a hanger
Presenting that the film could
Be taking place in a public
Surrounding such as a school or
Work. Following the conventions
Of a ‘true to life scenario’.
4. Image used on poster
The initial idea was to use me as the
iconic image for the poster. However
I decided to use the lab coat to
create an enigma, leaving the
audience puzzled and attempting to
find out why a lab coat is at the
forefront of the poster.
I chose to carve a square at the
middle of the page and at the where
the heart would be if someone was
to wear the lab coat. I did this to
illustrate the saying “follow your
heart” and the square being in the
middle of the page is to present that
following your heart is the most
important thing. Furthermore the
contrast of the white lab coat and the
black background make the image
stand out.
Before After
5. Image used in Review
I chose this image as it answers some questions set by the poster. The image shows the
lab coat being in use by (the main character) Dre. Furthermore it allows the audience to
develop ideas and the relationship between the lab coat and the character. In addition,
the fact that the character is looking at the mirror whilst wearing a lab coat illustrates a
sense of vanity as people often look at a mirror to admire oneself. Therefore, suggesting
to the audience that the lab coat does have a significant role to play in the short film.
6. How did the Film Poster and Film Review
contribute to my main product? The ancillary tasks
which I had created for my film
Film posters are created to help promote films and interest individuals into
watching them. I believe I have done this successfully by creating a poster
which was captivating and engaging. I had to consider the image I was going
to include on the poster, as well as the fonts for the title and tagline as these
are the most important features and I had to ensure they were effective and
would intrigue individuals into watching our short film, without giving away
too much about the film.
By creating a film review for ‘Genius’ I was able to give a critical opinion on
the short film in the eyes of LWL (little white lies), in order to inform
individuals about the film and help them decide if they are interested in
watching it. Overall, both the film poster and film review help raise
awareness about the short film. This contributes to the final product which I
have created as it helps promote it and interest individuals into wanting to
watch it.
To conclude, overall I believe I have stuck to the conventions I have detailed
and have stated throughout the question. Colour, font and image helps to
promote my film in a positive way.
