The document discusses the history of sunken ships throughout the world's oceans. It estimates that there are around 65,000 shipwrecks in the North Atlantic alone. Many of these sunken ships have been explored over time and have provided insights into history. Some were warfare vessels while others carried cargo or passengers. Several famous shipwrecks are highlighted, including the Queen Elizabeth II, Titanic, Mary Rose, and Andrea Doria. Shipwrecks often occurred due to accidents, bad weather, or equipment failures. Many sunken ship sites are now popular tourist attractions and homes to marine life.
2. Wrecked and missing ships are an enigma for most of us. You must have
heard stories about the missing ships lost in time and the wrecked ones
that were called doomed.
Many sunken ships explored over time given a glimpse of
the times gone by. A number of wealth and treasure seekers
have continuously searched for sunken ships.
3. On the record, there are roughly 65000 ships in the North
Atlantic ocean. The world history is full of ship wrecks and lost
ships. These sunken ship diving sites have become tourist
attractions today. These really old sunken ships have become
a breeding ground for marine life.
4. A few of these sunken ships were warfare ships, while the others were
cruise ships. Most of these unfortnate ships carried people, but a few of
them carried valuables for international shipping. I have a list of the
most popular ship wrecks in the marine waters till date:
5. Inner view of Queen Elizabeth II before it sank
This one launched by Queen
Elizabeth II, was one of the
most famous and greatest
ocean liners of the world.
Queen Elizabeth II was
launched on June 25,1965
carried the royal mail for
twenty years.
6. Under mysterious circumstances, the ship caught fire in 1972 at the
Hong Kong harbor while going refurbishment. It was partially
dismantled and its remains still lie on the ocean beds near Hong
Kong harbor.
7. The Great Titanic
The world's biggest cruise-
liner which collided with an
ice berg and sank on its
maiden voyage. It stood as a
gigantic wonder which
offered world-class
restaurants, swimming pools,
Turkish baths, libraries, and
lavish cabins.
8. The Titanic sank on 15april 1912. Its memory is kept alive in books,
documentaries, films and memorials.
9. The Mary Rose
This ship was described by King Henry VIII as the ,'fairest flower
of all ships that sailed'. In 1545, July 19, The Mary Rose went
down due to harsh winds and capsized rapidly. Only 40 out of 700
of its crew were saved.
10. Andrea Doria
Launched in 1951,at Sestri, Genoa, she had accommodations for
more than 1000 passengers and over 575 crew members. A Swedish
freighter collided with Andrea Doria on 25th July 1956.
11. Historians say that this disaster could have been avoided if
radar readings were not misinterpreted.
12. RMS Rhone
The British steamer, RMS Rhone sank off the The Salt Island in 1867
after it was hit by a hurricane. By any chance, if you plan to go diving
in any of the sunken ship sites , this one is the best in Caribbean. It lies
in two pieces on the sloping ocean bed.
13. Ship wrecks have been very mysterious since times immemorial. Ships
sink due to a crisis in the sea like navigational defects, bad weather,
pirate attacks or equipment failure. The stories arising from the ship
wrecks are sad but today they are one of the most sough-after tourist
sites. The chests of treasure and mystery lie still in the ocean depths.
