JKE – Money that Matters™ company initiative
The program offers web-based software to
manage customer investments
Program: Money that Matters
By combining traditional financial services with
creative community investment opportunities, JKE
hopes to reinvigorate the company image and
improve customer loyalty in a turbulent market.
Team goal: Produce the right solution by reducing costs, improving efficiency, and
improving quality.
Challenge: Time to market, distributed teams, cost and budgets, increased mandates,
communication with team and stakeholders, technical complexity, manage expectations,
control dropped requirements and scope creep, and overall project management,
adherence to enterprise discipline and governance.
Overview: JKE – Money that Matters™ --- Investing
in community initiatives
A large financial institution named JKE developed a new
company initiative and tag line, Money that Matters.
By combining traditional financial services with creative
community investment opportunities, JKE hopes to
reinvigorate the company image and improve customer
loyalty in a turbulent market. The Money that Matters
program markets several potential offerings that extend
the core business of JKE with community investment
initiatives.
The key initiatives of Money that Matters are Business
Recovery Matters™ and Energy Efficiency Matters™.
The goal of the Business Recovery Matters initiative is to
accelerate the economic recovery of disaster-stricken
areas by linking investors and donors with impacted
business owners. The goal of the Energy Efficiency
Matters initiative is to address business opportunities that
result from the rising cost of energy.
The Business Recovery Matters initiative provides both
low-touch and focused investment options:
• The low-touch, Dividend Deposit
option automatically deposits a portion
of a customer’s dividends into a
pooled assistance fund.
• The high-touch, MicroLoan option
establishes a direct link between an
investor and an affected business
owner and provides the infrastructure
to set up microloans and track business
performance.
• The high-touch, Mortgage option
allows an investor to provide a low-
cost mortgage directly to an affected
business owner who would not
otherwise receive one.
The Energy Efficiency Matters initiative seeks to
accelerate energy efficiency by linking investors with
people who want to improve the energy-efficiency of
their home or business but cannot afford to. Loans are
repaid out of the energy-savings realized. In other words,
after the improvements are made, energy payments
remain at the previous level, and the saved amount is
used to repay the loan.

Automated Water Meter Reader (AMR) company initiative
Team goal: Produce the right solution by reducing costs, improving efficiency, and
improving quality.

communication with team and stakeholders, technical complexity, manage expectations,
control dropped requirements and scope creep, and overall project management,
adherence to enterprise discipline and governance.
The program offers software and hardware to
manage customer water accounts.
Program: Automated Meter Reader (AMR)
The company has decided that in order to compete
with other water suppliers, they need to develop an
Automated Meter Reader (AMR) system to gather
and report water consumption data to facilitate
automated measurement of residential and business
customers, more accurately and quicker.
Overview: Automated Meter Reader
The company has decided that in order to
compete with other water suppliers we need
to develop an Automated Meter Reader
(AMR) system.
The AMR is intended for gathering and
reporting of water consumption data to
facilitate automated measurement of
residential and business customers.Water
providers use the Automated Meter Reader
(AMR) program to lower their cost of
operation by more accurately measuring
consumption and more quickly gather data.
The Automated Meter Reader program works
as follows:
•When the system is deployed, it
initially includes water services for
residential, commercial, and
industrial customers inside a 72
square mile area (~79,000 meter
connections).
•The solution uses the existing
infrastructure of meters, but might
require enhancements to support a
more flexible means of determining
water consumption. The goal is to
best provide services and read
meters in an electronically
automated and cost-effective
manner.
•The system or systems must be
composed of sufficient equipment
such that if a failure of a major
system component or part thereof
occurs, the failure will not interrupt
the flow of meter reading
information to customer revenue
systems.
