Welcome to my Presentation

2. My Personal Inquiry...
• My Inquiry topic is essentially about how I have
integrated Room 9‘s Reading Programme into our Class
Blog.
• I chose this topic because it was a way in which to push
out my own learning boundaries which meant...
• Having to develop and explore new ICT skills in order to
facilitate this - and at the same time...
• Using my new skills and creative imagination to hook
students into their Reading and ICT.
3. #1. What did I Define the Task:
need to do to
get started?
‘How can I integrate my Reading programme
into our class Blog?’
4. #1. What did I Define the Task:
need to do to
get started?
Which was...
‘How can I integrate my Reading programme
into our class Blog?’
5. First, I needed answers to some key
questions...
✓ What ICT resources were available to me?
✓ Where could I source/access them from?
✓ Who could help me find them and show me how
to use them?
✓ Which resources were the most useful and user
friendly?
✓ How was I going to integrate them?
6. #2. Seeking out
#3. Where
the information
and... exactly, will I
•People Power: find it?
✓Beth:ICT P.D. - Podcasting, Q.T. Movies...
✓Janice and the Pararahi Team -
✓Wendy & Donna S. - Hyperlinking, Websites,
Slide Shows...
✓Marilyn - Useful junior websites
•Engine Power:
✓Researching websites for ideas
7. #4. How have I used it?
Gleaning ideas from the Cluster Share Day and 1-1
Professional Development e.g.
✓ Voice Thread, Typography, I Can Animate, iMovie,
Podcasting, Quick Time Movies...
Shared Book:
✓ Experimenting, sifting and sorting The Monsters’ Party
through each of these options and
deciding on:
✓ Podcasting for Shared Book and
✓ Basic Sight Words
8. How have I used it? continued...
Quick Time movies to record those
‘Magical Learning Moments’
✓ I decided to experiment by
using the Quicktime Movie
application to film children
reading their journals -
individually.
✓ I wanted to see if a
Quick Time Movie was a
potentially useful tool
to hook students into I
their reading in some
way, shape or form.
9. ‘Magical Learning Moments’
Journal Reading
Benefits: 1-1 teaching, student/teacher bond,
motivational - maintains interest, exciting seeing
themselves live on screen, lifts interest
in reading and ICT (Ministry of Education, 2003).
10. How have I used it? ...continued
Kidpix Slideshow
✓ Kidpix Slide Show- Making use
of this application for Reading
responses/Basic Sight Words:
Experimenting - integrating the
teaching of mouse control and how to
use Kid Pix, with how to use the
‘pencil’ to write basic sight words e.g.
The, you, it.
11. Benefits:
✓ Adds interest and stimulation to learning basic sight words.
✓ Any intrinsic learning is transferred back into the identification of sight words during
reading and will hopefully stimulate learning in other curriculum areas e.g. Shared
Writing, Shared Book, Maths.
✓ Hooks children into their reading and ICT - acting as a catalyst to promote and provide
opportunities for children to develop an interest in electronic concepts of learning
through self-exploration and discovery via relevant and meaningful contexts (Ministry
of Education, 2007).
✓ Promoting ‘Can Do’ attitudes... If I can do this, what else am I capable of???
✓ Switching on a ‘light’ and keeping it on!!

(Ministry of Education, 2007).
✓ Provides opportunities for engagement with hands-on
experiential learning where children can work and learn
autonomously on open-ended activities at their own skill
level and own pace (Ministry of Education, 1994).
16. Evaluation:
Have I achieved what I set out to achieve for
my personal inquiry?
“How can I integrate my Reading Programme
into our class Blog?”
In some ways - ‘Yes,’ in other ways...
I feel like I’ve really only just begun...

18. Reflection
✓ Being a pro-active teacher - getting started on
the Blog is one thing... keeping it going is another.
✓ Pushing out personal learning boundaries in
order to deliver a sustainable and student
centred ICT learning environment...
✓ Balancing this with traditional teaching methods
e.g. pencil and paper
✓ Going the extra mile - ‘walking the talk’
19. ‘If you can dream it,
why not do it!’
...So what are you waiting for...
‘Go Get It!’
