They use technology tools to collaborate, plan and produce a sample product to enhance their learning and solve problems by investigating, troubleshooting and experimenting using technical resources.   This is a Benchmark in the Ohio Academic Standards for Technology for which grade band? This activity demonstrates the connection between technology, 21st c skills and Ohio content standards Correct answer is K-2 Once participants make a few guesses, give them the answer then point out some of the words in the Benchmark (communicate, collaborate, investigate) these are 21st century skills!

  7. 21st century skills support the following...   Authentic learning – contextual learning, simulating real-world environments   Mental models – visceral and virtual models, allow students to reflect upon current models and adjust (with gaining new info) models as new info is gathered   Multiple intelligences – personalize learning, differentiate learning   Social learning – f2f and virtual/online collaboration & creates a community of learners - research shows collaboration increases learning motivation, develops social & cross-cultural skills
  8. Knowledge work = collaboration/teamwork, applying knowledge   Thinking tools = tech + digital devices and services   Digital lifestyles = digital natives = so many choices of tools, access at fingertips   Learning research = learning about learning (see next slide)
  9. A continuum of learning practices, blending both approaches A balance between content and process It's best to point out when using this slide that the item on the right is not replacing the item on the left...these practices/approaches must now work in balance with each other.

This slide lists some instructional strategies that support and/or promote 21st c skills integration.   Now that you have demonstrated what integration of 21st century skills looks like, you can reinforce the idea that these skills have been part of various instructional strategies and methodologies...that they are likely already using in their instruction!
