QUARG report 1993
Diesel vehicle emissions and urban air quality
‘In the view of the Review Group, the impact
of diesel vehicles on urban air quality is a
serious one. Any increase in the proportion
of diesel vehicles on our streets is to be
viewed with considerable concern unless
problems of particulate matter and nitrogen
oxides are addressed .’
14. • ‘promote smarter travel choices’
• ‘improve engine performance of commercial diesel vehicles’
• ‘mitigate the impact of the M1 motorway’
• ‘ECO Stars’
• ‘infrastructure for low emission vehicles’
• ‘hydrogen vehicle re-fuelling infrastructure and vehicle trial’
• ‘PM2.5 communication and action strategy’
• ‘improvements to Rotherham bus services’
• ‘promoting green infrastructure’

commitments by OLEV
• Much expected of local authorities
• Only new initiative is Clean Air Zones –but
implementation is left to local authorities

as industry, aviation, railways an shipping.
• In summary, little that is new or focused on the main
problem, ie emission of NOx from diesel engines in urban
areas
PROPOSED MEASURES

between gasoline and diesel

emissions of Euro 6 vehicles to inform consumers
WHAT’S NOT PROPOSED
