PREFACE
The purpose of this report is to explain management practices in real life. For this
report we choose an organization named Mukim's Creation. And based on that
organization we tried to apply our knowledge of management.
Management is a dynamic subject. It is also a very old topics. It is a changing material,
day by day it is changing or adapting the latest changes, but in the core it is still the
same.
Mukims Creation is a modern organization. And it works in media/event management.
As by its nature it is a semi-formal organization. So it might seem traditional
management theory does not applies to it. But in the end, it still follows some
traditional management procedure. And as for management, there is a new definition
of management for these type of organization. They are called dynamic management.
Finally this report reflects our own study and observation. We tried our best to relate
the theoretical knowledge to practical uses. We hope this report serves the purpose.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Origin of the study
MBA is a professional degree. This degree includes theoretical knowledge as wee as
with practical knowledge. Making assignment is a part of practical knowledge. An
assignment is an attempt to provide business students an orientation to use the
knowledge in real life business situation in which one can observe and evaluate the
use and applicability of the theoretical concepts, which were taught in class. To have
better understanding and finish the syllabus as a partial requirement it is necessary to
create a report.
1.2 Background of the study
Management practice or management analysis of a company is related to how is an
organizations management is formed and performed? How well the managers are
performing their jobs? What is their roles and responsibilities in that company? To
understand all these, a deep knowledge of management theory is needed.
To complete this report we took the knowledge from theoretical classes and use that
with information from an organization. And put together both information to
understand the management and analyze the organization.
1.3 Objectives of the study
MBA is a modern subject, and assignment is a part of it. The first and foremost
important objective is to complete this report as a partial requirement of MBA
program.
1.4 Methodology
3
Although the report is descriptive in nature, but the main body is based on the firm’s
actual information which we got from their employees. Sources we used to create this
report are:
 Direct interview of various personnel
 Use of firm’s brochure, report, statements etc
 Personal observation
 Firm’s website
 Several text books
 Internet resources etc
1.5 Limitations of the study
Although the report is finished, but we faced several problems during completion of
this report. These are:
 Time was short, to complete a proper original report.
 Because of huge work load in professional life we didn’t have much time to
research.
 Information’s are not comparatively in order, so not very easy to understand.
 Because of short time, a lot of things were escaped, for which, report might
look incomplete.
 Because of their nature, information of the organization were story like, which
is not good for reliability and very hard to find the proper information.
 Some assumptions were made, which might reflect our own opinion.

Management
Practices

3.1 MANAGEMENT
Management involves coordinating and overseeing the work activities of others so
that their activities are completed efficiently and effectively.
 According to the Peter Drucker, “The basic task of management includes both
marketing and innovation.”
 According to Henri Fayol, “To manage is to forecast and to plan, to organize, to
command, to co-ordinate and to control.”
 According to Andreas Kaplan, “Management is a cross-cultural, societal
management approach based on interdisciplinary principles.”
 According to Fredmund Malik, “The transformation of resources into utility.”
So from above we can say, Management consists of the interlocking functions of
creating corporate policy and organizing, planning, controlling, and directing an
organization’s resources in order to achieve the objectives of that policy.
3.2 MANAGER
Manager is someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so that
organizational goals can be accomplished.
 According to F. John Reh, “A Manager is the person responsible for planningand
directing the work of a group of individuals, monitoring their work, and taking
corrective action when necessary.”
 According to Mac Millan, “Someone whose job is
to organize and control the work of a business or organization or a part of it.”
 According to Mirk, “An individual who is in charge of a certain group of tasks.”
So from above we can say, a manager is a person who is responsible for a job and he
does it by planning, organizing and directing a group of individuals. He controls and
mentors the group to complete the task effectively and efficiently.
10
3.3 CLASSIFYING MANAGERS
Most organizations have three management levels:
1. First-line managers
2. Middle managers
3. Top managers
These managers are classified in a hierarchy of authority, and perform different tasks.
In many organizations, the number of managers in every level resembles a pyramid.
As Mukim’s Creation is a small organization, so it only has 2 management levels:
1. First-line managers
2. Top managers
Each level is briefly explained below in specifications of their different responsibilities:

3.4 MINTZBERG’s MANAGERIAL ROLES
Management expert Professor Henry Mintzberg has argued that a manager’s work can
be boiled down to ten common roles. According to Mintzberg, these roles, or
expectations for a manager’s behavior, fall into three categories:
 Informational (managing by information)
 Interpersonal (managing through people)
 Decisional (managing through action).
Below is a chart summarizes the roles played by Mukim's Creation managers:

From we can see someof the assigned jobs performed by Mukim'sCreation managers.
As a semi-formal organization they do other various activities during live events, which
were not included in here.
15
3.5 OMNIPOTENT VIEW vs SYMBOLIC VIEW
Based on actions and success, management can either be omnipotent or symbolic. In
brief:
 Omnipotent view of management:
Managers are directly responsible for an organizations success or failure. If they
do well in their job, then the position of their organization is increased, if they
do badly, organizations position is lowered.
 Symbolic view of management:
Managers are not responsible for an organizations success or failure. Success of
that organization is fully dependent on external forces outside of manager’s
control. They just symbolize control and influence through their action.
As for Mukim's Creation, its success is based on Omnipotent management. So
basically:
 Managers are directly responsible for Mukim's Creation’s success or failure.
 The quality of Mukim's Creation is determined by the quality of its managers.
 The performance of managers influences Mukim's Creation’s goals.
Below are some example, which are prove of omnipotent management of Mukim's
Creation.
Example 01:
In BPL Opening Ceremony 2012, because of poor planning there was some technical
difficulty. For this reason they were criticized by their clients.
Example 02:
In 2014, Mukim's Creation did a live concert for Grameen Phone. The program was
planned and executed by Mukim's Creation. And it became highly profitable for
Grameen Phone. So they decided to do that same concert in several district of
Bangladesh with help of Mukim's Creation.
From above example we can see, in both situation performance of the managers
affected the organizations success.
16
3.6 ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE
Organizational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs, which
governs how people behave in organizations. These shared values have a strong
influence on the people in the organization and dictate how they dress, act, and
perform their jobs.
Below is the dimensions of organization culture:
Contrasting organizational cultures among Mukim's Creation & other
organization in this industry:
Dimension Mukim's Creation Other organizations
Attention to detail Low Low
Outcome orientation High High
People orientation High Low
Team orientation High Medium
Aggressiveness Low High
17
Stability High Medium
Innovation Very high Low
This is a simple contrast among Mukim's Creation culture and other organization’s
culture. All organizations have different cultures. And based on that people in the
organization dress, act, and perform their jobs. And this reflects a lot in the
performance of an organization.
18
3.7 GLOBAL OUTSOURCING
Global outsourcing is purchasing materials or labor from around the world wherever
it is cheapest. In recent global outsourcing become very popular in Bangladesh too.
Reasons are simple:
 Flexible procedure in doing foreign business
 None to less complexity in transaction
 Cheap product from China etc
Mukim's Creation is an organization who is doing global outsourcing for several years.
Some example are:
 Purchasing logistics/products in cheap from China. Example: Intelligent light,
LED Wall, Truss, 5W Laser etc
 Creating custom designed products using cheap labor and easy technology from
China. Example: High-end video processor, LDP screen etc
 Purchasing high tech products from USA and London. Example: APC40
controller, Visuals, Resolume Arena etc
 Hiring cheap labors from Dubai and Singapore while doing events in abroad.
Example: CCMA, Khude Gaan Raaj etc
 Hiring specialized light engineer and sound engineer from India. Example:
Classical Music Fest, Tri-Nation music concert etc
 Instead purchasing whole setup, hiring projection mapping team from
Singapore to do show in cheap. Example: World T20 Cup Opening Ceremony,
Tri-Nation music fest etc
 Purchasing fireworks from India which are more safe and cheaper than local
fireworks. Example: Bangladesh Games, ICC World Cup 2011 etc
These are some works done by Mukim's Creation. In where global outsourcing were
the best option.
19
3.8 THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS
Decision making processes are pretty simpleand straight forward. Below is an example
of how Mukim's Creation solves any problem by decision making:

20
Step 1: Identifying the Problem
As from the image we can see the problem is pretty simple, Graphics team needs new
GPU, so that their design process and render process can be faster.
Step 2: Identifying Decision Criteria
For a new GPU there are certain things to consider. These are:
 Graphics memory
 Memory speed
 Shader speed
 Maximum output
 Power requirement
 Render Output Units
Based on these criteria, Mukim's Creation can decide which would meet their
requirement and fulfill their purposes.
Step 3: Allocating Weights to the Criteria
In market there are various models/types of graphics card. But not all are same. They
are different from each other in various ways. Choosing the best from them can be
measured based on some criteria.
 Graphics memory………………………………….10
 Memory speed………………………………………10
 Shader speed…………………………………………10
 Maximum output………………………………….05
 Power requirement……………………………….08
 Render Output Units..……………………………04
As we can see criteria are based on some features. And they are weighted according
to need.
Step 4: Developing Alternatives
There are various kinds of GPU in market. From them, Mukim's Creation choose some
model which might fulfill their needs.
21
 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690
 AMD Radeon R9 295X2
 AMD Radeon R9 290X
 NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan Z
 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti
 AMD Radeon HD 7990
 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
These are the possible Choices, which have the potential configuration to fulfill their
needs.
Step 5: Analyzing Alternatives
All possible choices are then compared based on their weight.

Step 6: Selecting an Alternative
Based on their weight choose the best alternative to solve the situation. In this case:
 AMD Radeon R9 295X2
Is the best alternative.
Step 7: Implementing the Alternative
After the choice, purchase the alternative, and take necessary step to utilize that
properly.
Step 8: Evaluating the Decision’s Effectiveness
After using that for a while the soundness of the decision is judged by its outcomes.
 How effectively was the problem resolved by outcomes resulting from the
chosen alternatives?
 If the problem was not resolved, what went wrong?
From above we can see, how Mukim's Creation takes a problem and then using
decision making process solves the situation.
23
3.9 PLANS
In runtime an organization has to make several plans. Some are related, some are
conflicting, some applies to whole organization wide, some are for only specific task
etc.
There are several types of plans. Types are:
As an event management firm with a semi-formal management, Mukim'sCreation has
several plans too. Some example of their plans which were taken on 2015 are briefly
given below:
Strategic plans  Purchase Truss and Catering products and start a
subsidiary business
 Make partnership/agreement with other similar
organizations, to help/look after each other
Operational plans  Arrange brain-storming session before an event to
discuss and generate ideas
 Final recheck/confirmation with vendors about
their responsibility 2 days before any program
Long-Term Plans  Build own spacious warehouse
 Make arrangement for employee quarters
 Purchase cars for employee easy transportation
Short-Term Plans  Setup an website before a program
24
 Mobile advertisement before a program
Specific Plans  Plan and arrange an event for international singer
Single-Use Plan  To meet the signal distance from set to panel for a
specific program; designed and then purchased
some special extender
As a semi-formal organization, Mukim's Creation does not follow the proper guideline
of management or classic plan strategy. Instead its plans are mostly dynamic and
based on situation.

3.10 DEPARTMENTALIZATION
Departmentalization involves dividing an organization into different departments,
which perform tasks according to the departments' specializations in the organization.
There are 5 types of departmentalization. These are:
 Functional
 Product
 Geographical
 Process
 Customer
As Mukim's Creation is a semi-formal organization and most of its works are based on
events or special project, that’s why it follows Functional Departmentalization.
This is an example of functional departmentalization, which implicates that the whole
technical department is separate from other works. They do only their job in an event.
26
Advantages:
Reasons behind Mukim's Creation for functional departmentalization are:
 All technical people don’t have to face/suffer other problems beside their own
problems.
 All technical people work together, so they communicate better
 All technical people can share their expertise easily
 With their easy communication and altogether contribution they can do some
specialized work in event
Disadvantages:
There are some disadvantages too for functional departmentalization. These are:
 Poor communication with other functional areas
 Limited view of organizational goals
These are only some advantages and disadvantages of technical department of
functional departmentalization. Mukim's Creation have other departments too based
on their function. They have their own advantage and disadvantages too.

CONCLUSION
Doing an analysis on a real life organization based on theoretical lectures is a great
source of learning. In general we have learnt about management on class lectures. But
for this report we had to use those knowledge to use, identify and analyze an
organization. Because of this report we were able to utilize a theoretical concepts on
a practical basis.
After this report we can proudly say, we know a lot and understand a lot about
management. We know how it applies to organization. And how it is related to
organization on various ways.

And based on that organization we tried to apply our knowledge of management. Management is a dynamic subject. It is also a very old topics. It is a changing material, day by day it is changing or adapting the latest changes, but in the core it is still the same. Mukims Creation is a modern organization. And it works in media/event management. As by its nature it is a semi-formal organization. So it might seem traditional management theory does not applies to it. But in the end, it still follows some traditional management procedure. And as for management, there is a new definition of management for these type of organization. They are called dynamic management. Finally this report reflects our own study and observation. We tried our best to relate the theoretical knowledge to practical uses. We hope this report serves the purpose.

He gave us the faith and strength, knowledge, wisdom, confidence and other things to carry our life forward and finish this report. This report was a great source of knowledge for us. For this opportunity we would like to thank: Imranul Hoque, Asst. Professor of Jagannath University, who taught us in the class; and then gave us this assignment to apply our knowledge in real life. Without his great lectures and guidance to create this report, it wouldn’t be possible for us to complete this report. • 9. 3 Although the report is descriptive in nature, but the main body is based on the firm’s actual information which we got from their employees. Sources we used to create this report are:  Direct interview of various personnel  Use of firm’s brochure, report, statements etc  Personal observation  Firm’s website  Several text books  Internet resources etc 1.5 Limitations of the study Although the report is finished, but we faced several problems during completion of this report. These are:  Time was short, to complete a proper original report.  Because of huge work load in professional life we didn’t have much time to research.  Information’s are not comparatively in order, so not very easy to understand.  Because of short time, a lot of things were escaped, for which, report might look incomplete.  Because of their nature, information of the organization were story like, which is not good for reliability and very hard to find the proper information.  Some assumptions were made, which might reflect our own opinion.

  • 21. 15 3.5 OMNIPOTENT VIEW vs SYMBOLIC VIEW Based on actions and success, management can either be omnipotent or symbolic. In brief:  Omnipotent view of management: Managers are directly responsible for an organizations success or failure. If they do well in their job, then the position of their organization is increased, if they do badly, organizations position is lowered.  Symbolic view of management: Managers are not responsible for an organizations success or failure. Success of that organization is fully dependent on external forces outside of manager’s control. They just symbolize control and influence through their action. As for Mukim's Creation, its success is based on Omnipotent management. So basically:  Managers are directly responsible for Mukim's Creation’s success or failure.  The quality of Mukim's Creation is determined by the quality of its managers.  The performance of managers influences Mukim's Creation’s goals. Below are some example, which are prove of omnipotent management of Mukim's Creation. Example 01: In BPL Opening Ceremony 2012, because of poor planning there was some technical difficulty. For this reason they were criticized by their clients. Example 02: In 2014, Mukim's Creation did a live concert for Grameen Phone. The program was planned and executed by Mukim's Creation. And it became highly profitable for Grameen Phone. So they decided to do that same concert in several district of Bangladesh with help of Mukim's Creation.
