3. ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY
READ PAGES 2 - 8
People want instant gratification today. We want things to
change quickly and we want everything to happen NOW!
However, even though some changes are quick, most take
time, especially if they are going to be of any benefit to us.
If we want good changes to happen, it requires that we open
our mind and heart. Change is a process that is ongoing and
it requires a commitment and taking action.
We all need to make changes in our lives and everyone can
change if they really want to.
So let’s get started on making some awesome changes.
4. READ ROMANS 12:2
This verse tells us that we should not let the world tempt us into
living a lifestyle that is not good for us.
Instead of following the ways of the world, we need to work on
change by renewing our minds daily so we can think the way God
thinks.
This WILL be difficult and you WILL encounter setbacks, but
remember that God will always be there to help you, even when you
get discouraged or feel depressed.
When you are struggling, look up scripture on the topics you need
help with and pray daily for God’s help.
5. Many people don’t really know who they are.
We live according to the expectations of others
and we put up walls to protect ourselves. We
see ourselves through the eyes of the world
instead of God’s eyes so we see a distorted
image of ourselves.
KNOW THYSELF.
~Plato
6. READ PSALM 139:14
This verse tells us that we should praise God for who
we are because we know that He has done a good job.
It doesn’t matter what people think, it only matters
what God thinks and He thinks we are wonderful
and marvellous!
7. TURN TO PAGE 9
The stages in our lives are similar to those of a caterpillar.
Answer the questions on this page to determine what stage you
are at now and what stage you want to reach.
STAGES OF OUR LIVES
8. Do you know the difference between confidence and self-
esteem? Simply stated – confidence is something that other
people see and self-esteem is something that only we can see.
The picture of the dog shows confidence – we can see he is
happy running. The picture of the cat shows self-esteem. We
can see the cat but only the cat can see the strong lion that lives
inside.
CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM
9. We can do this through:
1. Doing a honest self-evaluation
2. Learning to accept ourselves
3. Changing our self-image
Ask God to guide you through this process. Ask Him to show
you anything that is hidden deep inside yourself.
Read page 10 and do the self-
evaluation exercise.
HOW DO WE GAIN THE CONFIDENCE TO
BECOME BUTTERFLIES?
10. • Most people have
distorted ideas
about who they are
• Need to discover
God-given abilities,
personality traits,
expectations
1) SELF-EVALUATION
11. What do you say when you wake up in
the morning?
Think about the first words that come
out of your mouth. Are they positive
words that lift you up and make you
feel good or are they negative words
that drag you down and make you feel
bad?
Read page 11 and do the exercise. Then do
the exercise on page 12. Did you learn
something new about yourself?
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS
12. Read page 13 -14 and do the
exercises.
It is important that we focus on the
abilities that God has given us and work
hard to reach our potential. We ALL
have unique worth and value.
Know that you are God’s child and He
loves you just the way you are but He
wants you to become the best version of
you that you can be and will help you
every step of the way.
2) SELF-ACCEPTANCE
13. READ PSALM 118:8
We should always put our trust in God because
He is the only one who has the power to help
us.
If we trust people, they will always disappoint
us and they can’t help us with our problems
because they don’t know how to solve their own
problems.
14. We show others how we feel about
ourselves through our appearance and
actions.
Our inner beauty tells others that we
value ourselves and it can make a huge
impact on the way they see us.
It is important that we try to look our
best but outer beauty fades and isn’t
consistent.
Read page 15 and do the
exercise.
3) SELF-IMAGE
15. There’s a difference between pretty
and beautiful.
When someone is pretty, they have
a good appearance.
But when someone is beautiful,
they shine on both the inside and
outside.
16. SELF-ESTEEM
When we feel good about ourselves
and can accept our strengths and
weaknesses, we will build confidence
and our self-esteem will grow.
Read pages 16 - 17 and do the
exercise.
17. Society continually pressures us
to become perfect in a world
that is imperfect.
Think of ways that you are
pressured daily to become
someone you are not. Write
down your thoughts on the
notes pages at the end of the
workbook.
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO BECOME
CONFIDENT IN TODAY’S WORLD?
18. READ PSALM 22:19
When we are in trouble we often turn to other
people for advice but many times their advice
doesn’t work or it makes things worse. The
first thing we should do when we are
struggling is ask God for help. He is always
near and ready to help.
19. Most of us play the comparison game in one way or another.
However, it is a game we can never win. There will always be
someone who is smarter, richer, more popular and better looking.
We all want to fit in and be accepted by others but we are looking
externally instead of making changes within ourselves. However,
our value doesn’t come from what we look like , what we know or
what we have. Our value comes from who we are.
Look at the next slide and see if you are one of these game players.
DO YOU PLAY THE COMPARISON
GAME?
20. I wish I looked like
Barb. She is so
beautiful.
THE COMPARISON GAME
21. IT’S TIME TO STOP
BEATING OURSELVES UP!
Life is NOT perfect
People are NOT perfect
The grass is NOT really greener on the
other side of the fence
Happiness does NOT come from
outside, it comes from inside
22. Ask God to help us make positive
changes in our lives
Start believing in ourselves
Start loving other people
Start being a good example to others
Start helping others believe in
themselves
SO WHAT CAN WE DO?
23. READ MARK 12:30-31
The most important thing we can do is love
God and love others as we love ourselves. Once
we are able to do this, we will gain the
confidence needed to make positive changes
that will help us deal with any difficult
situations in our lives and be able to face each
day with peace and joy.
24. Are you experiencing high levels of stress in
your life?
Stress is accepted as a normal part of life but
too much stress is very damaging to our
health.
How can we control the stress in our lives?
Read pages 18 – 19 and do the
exercises.
S.T.R.E.S.S.
25. READ JOSHUA 1:8
A powerful tool for developing confidence and
relieving stress is reading God’s Word.
Scripture can be very uplifting when you are
feeling down and depressed. It can bring peace
when you are full of anxiety and stress. It can
give you answers to all your questions.
26. Find a mirror and look directly into it. Who
do you see?
Read pages 20 – 21 and do the
exercises.
NOW LET’S FIND THE BEAUTIFUL
BUTTERFLIES!
27. …is the ONLY ONE who can make you
happy!

awesome person you really are!!!
WHATDOYOULIKE
ABOUTYOURSELF?
30. READ JOHN 3:16
This is probably the most known verse in the
Bible. It tells us that God loved us so much
that He sent His only son into the world to die
for our sins. WOW! If God who created the
universe loves us and created us in His own
image, we should love what He created. We
are awesome and GOD LOVES US!!
31. Read page 23 to
discover things
that will help you
become more
positive.
…it takes a lot of hard
work and patience.

35. READ GENESIS 1:27
This verse tells us that we were created in
God’s image and we need to remember this
when we are feeling that we don’t measure up
to the world’s expectations. Instead we need to
try and measure up to God’s expectations.
What does God expect of you? Ask Him!
