2. My Ideas
The genre of music I have
chosen for my magazine is Pop
Music.
One of the main reasons I
have chosen to do Pop is
because it appeals to a
mainstream audience, opposed
to a niche audience and I
like the idea of my magazine
appealing to more people.
3. Here are some examples of similar
publications on the market
today...
4. Why have I chosen to create a pop
magazine?
•
•
•
I have chosen to create a pop music
magazine because although there are many
similar to it, it is a good genre to
choose as it appeals to a mainstream
audience and pop culture is very popular
and widely known in todays society.
Through my institution research I have
found that although there may not
necessarily be a gap in the market for
another pop magazine, it is a big
industry that makes a lot of money.
I have also chosen to do pop music as it
is my favourite genre of music and
therefore I know quite a lot about it.
5. Institution which may produce my
magazine...
The institution which may produce my
magazine would be big institutions such as D.C
Thomson & Co and Immediate Media Company
which distribute and produce similar
magazines such as Top of the Pops and Shout
Magazine.
I would also want my magazine to be
distributed by a large company who were well
informed about the genre I have chosen.
6. Target Audience - who would read my
magazine?
I predict that the target audience for my magazine would be…
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Girls
Teenagers
Age: 11-14/16
In full time education: school/college
Media interests: music, fashion, celebrity culture.
Buying interests: music, CD’s, downloads, clothes, makeup.
The young girls who I predict would read my magazine would
view the artists used as inspirational, people to look up to
and aspire to be like.

8. Description of the style of the
magazine
The magazine will be typical of a pop
magazine - I want to use bright, bold
fonts and a feminine colour palette
to appeal to girls.
Mode of Address - informal & chatty
Images - bright, eye catching. Mainly
of pop artists - with quotes to
interviews
9. Possible names for my magazine...
● Pop Culture
● Melody
● Teen Pop
● Fusion
● Pop Image
● Everything Teen
● Simply Teen
● In The Mix
● Simply Pop
● Teen Mix
10. What music will my magazine cover?
How?
My magazine will cover young, current, pop
music - mostly in the UK top 40 at the
moment, focusing on young boy groups and
solo female artists.
It will cover this content in articles,
interviews with artists, latest pop news
(releases of songs, celebrity gossip ect)
and also reviews of albums.
11. Double page article...
I want my double page article to feature an interview
with a solo female singer and for the text to be a
question and answer style format.
The reason I have chosen to do my double page spread on
an individual opposed to a group/band is because I
think that my target audience can relate more to
artists of their gender, who have similar interests.
It will feature a 50/50 ratio of pictures to text with the right hand side covered by one big image of
the artist and the left side an introduction and 3
columns of text. The image colour will also bleed onto
the next page.
12. QUESTIONS…
When reading an article, would you prefer to page to
be set out as a question and answer style format, or
for the questions to be implied and intergrated in?
Which name do you think is the best for my magazine
and why?
Do you agree that I should use an informal and chatty
mode of address? If so why? If not why not?
When reading a pop magazine what types of articles do
you expect to read? Content, images etc
Do you think that there is a gap in the market for
another pop magazine? Do you think it will be too
similar to other publications on the market today?
Why?
