Proposed Addition Main Goal 1 An Intelligent Nation Subsidiary goals: (1) the effective provision of primary education (2) the cretion of a dynamic educational ecosystem in all locations and at all levels, that is conducive to the effective provision of education Main Goal 2 Indonesian Leaders Lead ‘Intelligently’ Subsidiary goal: Indonesian leaders understand and are sensitive toward the realities of Indonesia (in all their variety and complexity) all the way down to the grassroots level Increased interest, enthusiasm, and momentum around education in IM schools. The emergence of new local initiatives. Providing future leaders with formative grassroots experiences. The sustainability of changes encouraged by IM at the local level Changes in student learning Focusing on the goal of improved learning outcomes 1 Encouraging and supporting interventionsto drive positive change in local education governance 2 Promotingthe intentional and consistent implementation of school- based management 3 Development and ongoing support for PMs, especially in terms of their ability to think systemically and work politically 4

Australia’s Education Partnership with Indonesia Organisations Relevant as Source of Learning for the IM 10 Items for Consideration This fact sheet is prepared by: Mark Fiorello, SOLIDARITAS Australian Aid – managed by The Palladium Group on behalf of the Australian Government Profiling, selection, and development of officers and managers for Galuh 5 Knowledge management and intermediation 6 Strategic evaluation and reflection 7 Improving alignment by communicating “what is IM” 8 Pratham (www.pratham.org) - one of the largest NGOs in India, which focuses on high-quality, low- cost interventions intended to improve the quality of education in India KINERJA (www.kinerja.or.id) - a USAID-funded project that has developed an innovative approach to involving parents, students, and other stakeholders in school management Identify simple but reliable assessments of learning outcomes and incorporate them into IM’s interventions. Define “Progress Markers” in relation to the projected 5-year lifecycle of change at both the school and district level. Adopt a more structured approach to improving school management. Develop competency profiles for Galuh Officers and Managers and apply rigorous recruitment and selection processes for vacancies in Galuh. Expand the concept of training and support for PMs beyond pedagogy, facilitation, and coaching. Actively cultivate a culture that encourages honest but positive exchanges of information. Establish an internal evaluation and reflection unit. Strengthen knowledge management practices. Explore collaboration with the DFAT-funded INOVASI program. Encourage the development of a “Knowledge Bank” for the IM network.
