celebrate Thanksgiving on the
fourth Thursday of November.
3. Thanksgiving is a special day for
families and people travel great
distances to be with their
families.
They give thanks for the food and
blessings.
4. The tradition started when in
1620 a group of men , women
and children left England on a
ship called Mayflower.
7. The voyage was very hard.They
were cold and hungry and many of
them died.
The voyage took 65 days. They
landed on the north –east coast of
North America. What today we
know as Massachusetts.

9. When they arrived it was almost
winter so they had no time to
grow crops. The winter was
long. Very few survived.
10. In spring native Americans, the
wampanoag Indians, helped
them.
Pilgrims met one person who
changed American history: the
Native American Tisquantum,
known to us as Squanto.
13. The summer harvest was very
good and by november, a year
after their first arrival, there was
food for everybody.
14. The pilgrims wanted to
celebrate it and invited the
native Americans to a great
dinner where they gave thanks
to God for the food. That was
the first Thanksgiving dinner.
15. Hunters from the colony brought geese and ducks.
Fish, lobster, clams, dried fruit and corn were also
on the menu. The Pilgrims invited the Wampanoag
chief Massasoit and ninety from his tribe, who
brought five deer to the feast.

women and two girls made Thanksgiving
dinner for fifty-six Pilgrims and ninety Native
Americans? That's a lot of work!
18. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln
began the tradition of an annual
national Thanksgiving in November to
give thanks for "general blessings."
19. Thanksgiving is traditionally an
American holiday. It is usually a time
when family or loved ones get
together, eat lots of food, and
celebrate the things they are thankful
for.
20. Besides eating the Thanksgiving meal,
Americans watch football, go to
parades, travel and go shopping on the
long holiday weekend.
Many people decorate their houses
with items that reminds the first
Thanksgiving.
