My name is Mayra Cabrera, I am a Utility Engineer with the Department of Water and Power.
I will be showing pictures that were taken along Sixth Street with the proposed downtown improvements superimposed on the pictures.
Our first image that you see above was taken at the intersection of S Sheridan St and Sixth St looking east on Sixth St.
This images illustrates the street improvements mentioned by Albert in the earlier slides.
It shows...
A two way street - One road eastbound and one road westbound
By converting Sixth St into a two way street it allows for diagonal parking which is the typical parking type used in most downtown area
Diagonal parking increases the number of parking spaces in the district and gives Sixth St a downtown feel
In addition converting Sixth St into a two-way street allows us to increase the walkway width from 8-ft to 11-ft on both sides of Sixth St
The wider walkway allows you to walk side by side with your friends or family members
Making Sixth St more walkable friendly
This picture also illustrates surface parking as you see in your right hand side
Surface parking is a great way to increase parkings spaces
It helps to eliminate existing vacant lots in Sixth St
And this spaces can be used for special events
Right at the center of this image you can see a City of Corona entrance monument
Not only does this monument act as an art feature in the downtown area, but it delineates the downtown district boundary of when you enter and exit the downtown district
Our next slide focus on the walkway improvements
Decorative paved walkway all along Sixth St
To beautify the walkway areas
Add drought tolerant landscaping
Create a peaceful, earthy, and relaxed environment
Additional outdoor seating
More inviting for residents to buy a coffee and donut and sit down and enjoys their day in our downtown
Adding decorative street lighting
To illuminate the area and create a safe environment
The third image shows street fronting.
By having diagonal parking, it adds additional space in the corners of intersections
This additional space can used for additional dining area for a restaurant or additional seating for our business
This increases the market value for businesses in the corner lots
The next image shows a proposed alley conversions.
Many downtowns we visited have closed off the alleys and used them for additional seating area as depicted in the image above.
The alley’s have been used as a gateway to a parking structure behind the businesses
Others have used the alley’s for public restrooms
All of these concepts are good ideas for the many alleys along Sixth St
Our last image illustrates a 4-tier parking structure fronting Sixth St. As Jason mentioned in his earlier in the presentation a parking structure would be recommended to accommodate the residents that would be coming to our downtown district.
Overall we feel these improvements would make Sixth Street more inviting to residents in Corona
Now to Rafael for a cost analysis.
