Alfonso I wrote letters to King of Portugal, asking him to stop illegal trade of free people making them
into slaves. He also asks in the letters for medicine and physicians to help, since they are having a lot of
diseases, which they can not treat since they do not have the right medicine or people. Alfonso’s
Christianity could be useful to him, because they can relate to this religion, which in turns makes them
better allies.
In the letters, Alfonso ask the King of Portugal to help stop illegal trade of free people, which then turns
them into slaves. He wants to King of Portugal to take actions to stop this by sending priests and
teachers, and asks that he does not send merchants or wares except for wine and flour for the holy
sacrament. He also asks the King of Portugal to help his people out, since they are having a lot of
different diseases going around. He asks the King of Portugal to send two apothecaries, physicians,
surgeons, and drugs to help fight diseases.
Alfonso’s Christianity could be useful to him in the fact that he can use this to become better allies to
the Portuguese. If two countries have cultures that can relate more, they become better allies. Also,
since the Portuguese are helping Alfonso, they can say that they are being good Christians, and by
helping them they are being good missionaries.
Alfonso sends letters to the King of Portugal King asks for physicians and medicine to help cure the
diseases that are going around. He also asks for help stop illegal slave trade, which is when they take
free men and make them slaves. Alfonso could use his Christianity to help him by letting the Portuguese
feel good about helping them since they are brothers through their faith. This also helps make them
better allies.
