Before you embark on a professional certification, it is prudent to check out the cost for the exam as well as for maintaining the certification. In the case of CIA certification, the applicant is not required to join the IIA membership, although as a member the applicant can enjoy a discount of exam fees and therefore, it’s worth joining. The candidate needs to pay for an application fee, together with the exam registration fee – three times, for Part 1, 2 and 3. The total cost is around $1,000 for regular IIA membership. If you are a student or a teacher of higher education, you can pay a lower fee. Besides the exam related expenses, candidates will most likely need to pay for the CIA review materials. This is not included in the exam registration fee and you can get the latest version from any CIA review course providers. I have a comparison page here for your reference: http://ipasstheciaexam.com/cia-exam-review-courses/ If you need to travel far to the exam center, you need to budget in the cost. The other expenses are miscellaneous and minor. All in all you can expect to spend around $1,600 for the exam, and a few hundred dollars for CPE and if preferred, maintain the IA membership. Feel free to leave me a note if you have any questions on the expenses and the CIA exam.
