You have decided to go for the Certified Internal Audit certification, but are you eligible to take the CIA exam? What are the rules on education and experience? You are about to find out in this presentation. For the educational requirement, the rule is simple: you’ll need to have a bachelor degree, and it can be in any discipline and from any part of the world. If you haven’t attained the bachelor level, there are ways to substitute using 5-7 years of experience. The experience requirement is more restricted. By default they are looking for two years of internal audit experience. Equivalent jobs such as external audit and compliance are fine, but for related but non-equivalent jobs, such as general accounting, finance and law, it can only be counted for a year. This means that you need to at least work for a year in the field of internal audit to get the certification. We go through these rules and provide a summary of waivers in the presentation.
