IPC started as a research center focused on social protection policies and fighting poverty and inequality. It has since consolidated its work on social protection by: 1) Publishing numerous working papers and reports analyzing cash transfer programs in Brazil and other Latin American and African countries from 2004-2012. 2) Providing training and capacity building to many countries to learn from successful programs like Brazil's Bolsa Familia. 3) Becoming a key player in global discussions on social protection policies, regularly presenting its work and research to organizations like the World Bank, ILO, and G20.

6. Framework for IPC-IG Social Protection and new priorities IPC helped on the policy dialogue between Brazil and Africa in partnership with the MDS: Ghana, Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia and Kenya. IPC has also worked closely with the African Union in the development of their social development strategy and it has engaged with ASPA during the meeting of the social development ministers. IPC has facilitated the IBSA academic forum and helped with the writing-up of the Social Development Strategies Paper released by the three countries in 2010. 7. Applied Research and Knowledge Production Capacity Development IPC provides training and capacity building in Social Protection. It receives mission missions from several countries and also visits countries. Activity implemented in close collaboration with Ipea. Countries such as: East Timor, Vietnam, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt (and other Arab States in partnership with ESCWA), South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Burundi, Paraguay, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Indonesia and Ghana have been involved in this modality.

8. Applied Research and Knowledge Production IPC-IG publications and researches have been influential in the discussion of Social Protection policies in India, The Philippines and other countries. There is a growing demand about the design and adaptation of large scale social protection policies like Brazil’s Bolsa Familia. IPC has also helped to disseminate other experiences of the South like NREGA in India, Community Work Programmes in South Africa among policy makers and reserchers. 9. Applied Research and Knowledge Production IPC-IG has been recognized as an important player in the field of Social Protection. It is regularly invited by multilateral and bilateral institutions to present its work and to discuss their strategies and policy papers. ECLAC, ILO, World Bank, African Development Bank, NEPAD, ESCWA, ADB, ESCAP, UNDP’s regional centres, Dfid, GiZ are some of the multilateral and bilateral organizations that have invited IPC to take part in some policy discussion.
