Communication Non verbal
Non - verbal Communication What is it?
A person who is deaf or someone who cannot speak and has learned to communicate through sign language or other nonverbal means of communication. People and nonverbal communication
30% of communication between human beings is nonverbal and that it exists in our everyday conversations Nonverbal communication is a silent form of communication, which has a great influence over our social environment and the whole communication process. What really is non-verbal communication??
In the majority of time nonverbal communication  skills can mean the difference between failure and success. Ricks stated that, "There is more to me than just how I look on the outside" (Ricks 5) The importance of nonverbal communication
Nonverbal communication is something that our society places tremendously too much power in . A smile goes a long way. When a person smiles at us, it probably would not even cross our minds to question whether or not that person is happy. A smile ….
Other cultures do not always interpret things in the same way. A Japanese woman is explaining her absence from work due to a death in the family. She may do it with a smile, based on the cultural belief that it is inappropriate to inflict pain or grief upon others. For the Albanians this may seem strange and even cold under the given circumstances. What about other cultures???
Nonverbal communication becomes a part of the communication process “when someone intentionally tries to convey a message or when someone attributes meaning to the nonverbal behavior of another, whether or not the person intended to communicate a particular meaning” (Lustig & Koester, 2003, p. 176).    Different opinions
Someone from the Middle East would be offended if you offered your left hand since the left hand is considered dirty and unclean. This was due to the fact that he was wearing nice clothes and kept his shoes on. What we think is harmless may not be in the case of other cultures. Another culture misunderstanding
The problem arises when there is a lack of knowledge about the fact that one culture may interpret a  nonverbal message  differently from another culture. "The emotional meanings conveyed by the voice are usually taken for granted by native language users, but they can be the cause of considerable problems when they fail to conform to preconceived expectations" (Lustig Koester, 2003) The problems related to nonverbal communication
facial expressions “your face is probably the most expressive part of your body and one of the most important focal points for  nonverbal communication.” (Stewart 131) Facial expressions usually communicate emotions. different types of nonverbal communication
The eyes tend to reveal happiness or sadness, and even surprise. The lower face also can reveal happiness or surprise; the smile, for example, can communicate friendliness and cooperation. The lower face, brows, and forehead can also reveal anger Our  facial expression  will reflect our mood at the time and we will have a scowl on our face. This may give the other person the wrong impression about us. Important elements
Communication through touch is obviously non-verbal. Used properly it can create a more direct message than dozens of words; used improperly it can build barriers and cause mistrust. Tactile Communication
When you see a good friend, you might hug him or her, but when meeting someone for the first time you might just shake hands. Touch as nonverbal communication can be observed in high school fights, lovers kissing in the park or a gentle touch on a baby's head. Each physical touch sends a different message. Physical touch reveals how you feel about people.
Silence can be a positive or negative influence in the communications process. We communicate respect by being on time for appointments, and by making time to be with other people. Different cultures have different rules about punctuality or the lack of it. Silence and Time
The way you walk, dress, what direction the eyes is looking when they speak, their facial expressions are all imperative to the nonverbal part of communication. Nonverbal communication is involved in every aspect of communication Nonverbal communication, in my opinion
