INTERNSHIPS AND VOLUNTEER WORK
1. Corporate Internship: DSP Blackrock Investment Managers; Sales Department
The internship, with the Kolkata branch lasted for a period of 2 months from 24th
April, 2014 to 20th June, 2014. The work profile comprised of encouraging and
empanelling individual financial advisors in the market, as mutual fund distributors
of the company products to prospective investors, therefore increasing visibility for
the company mutual fund instruments. Work also required me to analyze the value of
transactions existing mutual fund distributors had brought in for the branch and
determine the reasons for low value transactions. During this time, I also got certified
as a mutual fund distributor by the National Stock Exchange (valid for a period of
three years from 2014).
2. NGO Internship: Akanksha; Student Enrichment Department and HR Department
Akanksha aims to qualitatively enrich education the lesser privileged students
receive, either through after-school tuition models or more recently setting up their
own schools in impoverished settlements. I interned with the latter, from June 2015 to
September 2015 and was put in charge of the scholarship screening process to
determine deserving students from Akanksha schools who would receive monetary
assistance for higher education. I interviewed 120 students for the same. During this
time I was also assigned as a volunteer(in Pune) in the Government of Maharashtra
survey 2015, to determine the number of children between the ages of 6 and 14
enrolled in school and those out of it and determining factors affecting the same.
3. Volunteer Work: Prior to the internship with Akanksha, I volunteered in the
organization’s after-school tuition centre in Pune from January 2015 to April 2015
and helped assist in teaching English and Mathematics to students of St. Crispin’s
boarding house of classes 6, 7 and 8. I also assisted in periodic assessment of the
progress of the students.
4. Other: In January 2016, I was also selected to be a part of the Pune edition of the
Teach for India Innovation Weekend –a competition requiring participants to
organize in teams and tackle the problem statement of determining the skill set and
value system students need to be imparted with to make them 21st century
3. employable. During the course of the weekend we spoke to the stakeholder students
and parents as well as teachers part of municipal schools in the marginalized sections
to determine the problem areas. We also interacted with the Teach for India founder,
Shaheen Mistry(also the founder of Akanksha) to gain further perspective on the
issue.
