14. Zoom Chat
00:46:37 Terri Griffith: Welcome to all on-line! I'll be tracking the chat whenever
I'm not presenting
00:58:06 Heather Yurko: We lost audio
00:58:10 Terri Griffith: yes
00:58:13 Chris: same here
00:58:28 Chris: the audio is back now
01:04:41 Deb Stokes: Hmmm, that university-Industry collaboration sounds interesting - I'll
follow up with Michele on requirements and possibilities!
01:05:59 Terri Griffith: Excellent, Deb. I'm very much hoping for a greater focus on
early career members -- both students and new in their careers. The Univ-Industry
collaborations are critical there.
01:07:10 Davor Meersman: Very nice to reserve time for this part
01:07:37 Piyush: Excellent updates and programs !
01:08:04 Yassi Moghaddam: @Deb count me in.
01:14:51 Terri Griffith: discussion and ideas up next in the agenda
01:19:07 Deb Stokes: LOL noticed I was quiet ;D
15. 01:26:04 Terri Griffith: Yassi noting internships and capstone projects as key for
undergrads -- and jobs. I was speaking about both academic and industry early career members.
01:28:51 Terri Griffith: Love a hackathon approach!
01:30:44 Deb Stokes: Absolutely agree - let's find out what current thinking on this topic is.
01:32:35 Terri Griffith: @Deb - Hila Lifshitz-Assaf is a new ambassador and an
expert on industry hackathons. She's at NYU. I'll be seeing her in a couple of weeks and will start
the conversation
01:33:24 Deb Stokes: Would be great to connect on that - we work with some folks at NYU so
excellent to meet another one!
01:34:19 Terri Griffith: Hila did a great interview introduction for us:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ0hBXq9LOw
16. 01:35:59 Ralph: yes the loss of trust...good point
01:36:49 Patrick Consorti: To cross the generation gap it could be interesting to
explore a new form of mentorship program pairing very experienced experts with young
students to work on topic of interest.
01:37:04 Ralph: agree
01:37:32 Ralph: very good point
01:37:33 Deb Stokes: Everyone, great session and lots to look forward to with ISSIP! Must
drop for another call now.
01:37:38 Patrick Consorti: The leaders of today paired with leaders of tomorrow.
01:37:55 Heather Yurko: Love that Patrick!
01:38:08 Heather Yurko: Great session @ISSIP team :)
01:38:09 Annie Hardy: That's fantastic.
01:38:28 Piyush: Grat job ISSIP team
01:38:30 Davor Meersman: Thanks all, inspiring as always! Cheers
01:38:46 Ralph: I write about topics like this at s3t.org and here is a piece that covers
the caring economy https://www.s3t.org/s3t-apr-10/

Welcome to the first half Board of Directors and Progress Reports session of ISSIP. My first seven months as President have highlighted how we all learn, build, and share across our domains of service innovation and across all stages of our careers.
The year started out with significant changes -- both with great expansions to our network. We are happy to share that Yassi Maghaddam has joined the ISSIP board of directors and taken on the role of Exec Dir at UC Santa Cruz’s Human Computer Interaction Center.
As Yassi made her move, the exec comm launched a global search. We had superb candidates and I’m happy to introduce Michele Carroll as our new Exec Dir.
Michele comes with extensive experience in marketing, business development, and served as Past President and Innovation chair of the Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals Silicon Valley SF. As we build our institutional memberships, Michele is working one day a week and we are working diligently to increase her time.
Michele will lead us through the rest of the program.
Thank you Terri, and my thanks and welcome too - to everyone who has been able to make the time to attend here in person today, and patch in online. We appreciate your engagement with ISSIP! We will cover a good deal of information in our single hour together, in 5 minute updates from leaders in each of the key areas of focus or paths to engagement with ISSIP – shown here on our agenda in the color blocks you might be familiar with, if you’ve visited our website - ISSIP.org lately. On the website you can click through for more about ISSIP happenings, past, present and upcoming in each area.
First up, Jim Spohrer will present, actually here in person for two and virtually to one, the ISSIP Service Excellence Awards for 2022 announced in the Spring(GREEN). Service Innovation Excellence with Impact to Business, to Innovation and to Society. ISSIP 2022 VP, Utpal Mangla, will give us a 5 minute update from the ISSIP Strategy Council which he co-chairs along with Deb Stokes. Then Jim will recap 2022 Events, from Discovery Summits to the weekly speaker Series and Publishing. Jim and Terri will share a bit about 2022 Conferences ISSIP is involved in, followed by myself and Yassi Moghaddam, with an update on ISSIP’s digital platform development work generally and the UCSC HCI Capstone project slated for completion in the upcoming Fall semester. Finally, ISSIP president, Terri Griffith, will facilitate final Q&A, discussion and recap current ISSIP Volunteer openings – Before we wrap the zoom call and those here in Silicon Valley (who can stay), will better connect over a light lunch together.
With that, let me turn it over to Jim Spohrer- and shift over here to take a few pictures!
Congratulations Ralph - as outstanding volunteer and contributor
The strategy council has a more formalized role beginning in this year. Opened year with a meeting of the members, co-chx`aired with Heather Yurko and facilitated by Alice Pollard. Resulted in our annual focus on the Future of Expertise. Now assessing how the first Discovery summit met the goals as we prepare for our second summit in September. Heather will lead a session taking us into 2023.

Michele - We want to view our website as the digital platform for individual and institutional member awareness and engagement in the many paths to involvement with ISSIP. Yassi will share an update with you on the HCI graduate student Capstone project begun in the Spring of 2022 and targeting completion in the Fall, which will inform a comprehensive website redesign. In the meantime, Jim and Stephen Spohrer are making excellent progress with back-end automation of processes to improve ISSIP operational efficiency - around generating badging and certificates, registering speakers for the weekly speaker series across time zone and info, for example on our 50+ ambassadors as their information changes. And I’ve been working with the EC, Terri and Jim - leveraging our inside access to my Carrollco Marketing design team - to freshen up the visuals and content section by section over time. VERY MUCH ongoing and to be viewed as preliminary, until we hear recommendations from the Capstone student project - and hopefully undertake a comprehensive redesign of ISSIP’s digital platform in 2023.
Yassi:
We hope you’ve been energized by this call -- I know I am each time we have the chance to get together. Jim has mentioned the great work that Ralph did with the Awards committee and that we have a great opportunity for volunteer leadership available now.
Thank you all for joining us -- those of you on zoom and those in person. If you weren’t able to join in person, we hope you can in the future. We’re going to sign off the zoom now as the Silicon Valley people move to lunch and networking. Be well and we hope to see you on Sept 28th for the second installment of our Future of Expertise Discovery Summits. All best!
