Spotify Technology (Sweden) S.A. Announces Financial Results for Second Quarter
2020
Highlights
• Total revenue of €1,889 million grew 13% Y/Y in Q2. Consolidated revenue was roughly in line with expectations. Premium revenue grew 17% Y/Y to €1,758
million, and performed in line with our forecast.
• Within Premium, average revenue per user of €4.41 in Q2 was down 9% Y/Y. The reduction in revenue resulting from the change in prior period estimates mentioned
above accounted for another 1% drag. Product mix was the dominant driver accounting for most of this decline.
• Gross Margin finished at 25.4% in Q2 which both exceeded our expectations and finished above the high end of our guidance range. Gross Margin in the quarter was
impacted by several “one-time” adjustments that when netted out, did benefit GM by 50 bps.
• Premium Gross Margin was 28.1% in Q2, down slightly from 28.3% in Q1, and up 60 bps Y/Y. Ad-Supported Gross Margin was (11.9) % in Q2, down from (6.6) %
in Q1 and down 2,478 bps Y/Y. As a reminder, we now account for all content costs related to podcast investment in the Ad-Supported business.
• Operating expenses totaled €646 million in Q2, an increase of 48% from Q2’19 and well above forecast. Core operating expenses grew slightly less than expected as
certain marketing expenditures have been pushed to later in the year.
• Total Free Cash Flow was €27 million in Q2, a €23 million decrease Y/Y principally related to an increase in net loss adjusted for non-cash items, partially offset by
favorable working capital movements and lower cash outflow for PP&E related to office build-outs. We maintain positive working capital dynamics overall and
continue to expect that we will deliver positive Free Cash Flow for the year.

Solution Description
Maxim Integrated’s USB-C Power Delivery Solutions Accelerate Industry Adoption by Cutting Development Time by Three Months and
Reducing Solution Size in Half. Overcome the challenges of implementing USB-C Power Delivery with the MAX77958 USB-C PD
controller and the MAX77962 28W buck-boost charger from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. As portable devices add new technologies
such as 5G connectivity and 4K video, many are changing from single-cell to two-series (2S) cell architectures. With this change comes
the need for higher power delivery via USB-C PD and higher-power charging (25W or higher). With the MAX77958 USB-C PD
controller, designers can now cut development time by three months with an out-of-the-box USB-C PD compliant solution, while also
reducing the solution size in half with the MAX77962 buck-boost charger. While USB-C PD systems are capable of meeting the demands
of next-generation portable consumer, industrial and medical electronics, compliance to these USB-C specifications requires multiple
components and custom firmware that can take several months to develop. The MAX77958 standalone USB-C PD controller saves three
months of design, development and testing time with an out-of-the-box USB-C PD 3.0 compliant solution with Fast Role Swap and Dual
Role Port (DRP) support. The MAX77958 includes features not typically integrated in traditional USB-C controllers, such as BC1.2

Solution Description
Maxim Integrated’s Ultra-Low-Power Dual Core Microcontroller with BLE 5.2 Shrinks BOM Costs by Up to 33 Percent for IoT
Applications. Designers of wirelessly connected, coin cell-operated internet of things products can now reduce bill-of-materials costs by
one-third while also saving space and battery life with the MAX32666 microcontroller from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. This
ultra-low-power dual Arm® Cortex®-M4 MCU with floating-point unit and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 extends the device’s battery life
by combining robust memory, security, communications, power management and processing functions traditionally performed by
multiple MCUs into a single device. As IoT applications become more advanced, more MCUs are typically added to the system. Usually
these advanced systems include a dedicated processor to handle the application, another processor acting as a sensor hub, a separate
standalone BLE microcontroller to handle the wireless connectivity function, and in many cases, a power management IC to efficiently
provide supply voltages to the MCUs. However, this approach is proving to be unsustainable for IoT applications that are growing in
complexity while still demanding smaller size and longer battery life.

Premium revenue grew 17% Y/Y to €1,758 million, and performed in line with our forecast. • Within Premium, average revenue per user of €4.41 in Q2 was down 9% Y/Y. Product mix was the dominant driver accounting for most of this decline. • Gross Margin finished at 25.4% in Q2 which both exceeded our expectations and finished above the high end of our guidance range. Gross Margin in the quarter was impacted by several “one-time” adjustments that when netted out, did benefit GM by 50 bps. • Premium Gross Margin was 28.1% in Q2, down slightly from 28.3% in Q1, and up 60 bps Y/Y. Ad-Supported Gross Margin was (11.9) % in Q2, down from (6.6) % in Q1 and down 2,478 bps Y/Y. As a reminder, we now account for all content costs related to podcast investment in the Ad-Supported business. • Operating expenses totaled €646 million in Q2, an increase of 48% from Q2’19 and well above forecast. Core operating expenses grew slightly less than expected as certain marketing expenditures have been pushed to later in the year. • Total Free Cash Flow was €27 million in Q2, a €23 million decrease Y/Y principally related to an increase in net loss adjusted for non-cash items, partially offset by favorable working capital movements and lower cash outflow for PP&E related to office build-outs.
