Arm Moves Production-Level EDA to the Cloud with the Help of AWS
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
Released in February, the Arm Cortex-M55 CPU quickly became a milestone for the Arm ecosystem because it gave hardware and software developers
the potheyr to incorporate unprecedented ML capabilities into the billions of IoT products coming to market. It also was the first time Arm leveraged
Arm-based AWS Graviton2 instances to perform production-level design validation for its IP. EDA in many ways is a natural fit for the cloud as chip
designers often need simultaneous access to tens of thousands of CPUs to run this compute-intensive task. Meeting tight deadlines can mean consuming
millions of core-htheirs per month. Building a data center to accommodate the gigantic bursts of computing potheyr needed for tomorrow’s complex
devices is theyll beyond the reach of most organizations. Most EDAworkloads, hotheyver, still largely get performed in on-premises data centers owned
and/or managed by semiconductor companies because of the complexities and risks involved in migration. Importantly, design workflows have to be
unified and semiconductor designers have to figure out a balance bettheyen workloads that are best suited for cloud, and which make more sense staying
in-house. To bridge this chasm, Arm has been working with major EDA partners such as Cadence Design Systems, Mentor Graphics’ (a Siemens
Business), and Synopsys to port their EDA tools to Arm. Already they’re seeing significant results in terms of performance and cost savings for
customers. Likewise, AWS continues to expand its portfolio to accommodate these types of workloads. The recently unveiled AWS Graviton 2-based
C6gn instance delivers up to 100 Gbps networking while providing a 40% price-performance advantage over conventional processors.

Cato Networks Automates SASE Provisioning and Monitoring with New
Cato Cloud API
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
Cato Networks, the provider of the world’s first SASE platform, introduced the first API to a global SASE platform. With the Cato Cloud API,
enterprises and MSPs, can automatically provision new sites and policies, and monitor Cato network analytics and security events from SIEMs
and other third-party platforms. The API uses GraphQL and interfaces to the entire Cato Cloud, not one location, replacing what would have been
hundreds of third-party API calls with a single Cato Cloud request. One MSP already using the Cato Cloud API is CDW. The company integrated
Cato Cloud into ServiceNow and other management solutions to enable deeper visibility into the circuits of a managed service client. Five years
ago, Cato reimagined enterprise infrastructure by connecting and securing all edges — remote users, offices, and cloud resources — in a single,
global, cloud-native platform. This unique approach afforded Cato customers not just incredible visibility into the infrastructure but also agility in
the face of change. For example, with the advent of Covid-19, Cato customers switched thousands of users from offices to work-from-anywhere
models in minutes without compromising performance or security. The Cato Cloud API now brings programmatic monitoring and configurability
to the extensive visibility and control provided by Cato’s management application. With Cato Cloud API, Cato exposes to third-party platforms all
of the same granular networking and security events’ data, already correlated with a common context for easy analysis.

Solution Description
TIM, Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. have reached record speeds for ultrabroadband long-distance with 5G
technology applied to Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). A speed of 1 Gbps on 26 GHz millimetre-wave (mmWave)
frequencies, at a distance of 6.5 kilometres from the site (1Gbps with UDP protocol, 700Mbps Speedtest Ookla TCP) has
been reached on TIM’s live network. This record confirms the usability of 5G millimetre-wave spectrum, not only for
urban, high speed or high-density-only deployment, but also for wider 5G FWA coverage. It builds on the successes
previously achieved with millimetre-wave in September when the TIM network connection stably exceeded a speed of 4
Gigabits per second in downlink on a live 5G network. The milestone paves the way to provide TIM customers with
enhanced ultrabroadband connections, especially in those areas not yet covered by fibreoptics. It also ensures through
these new 5G Fixed Wireless Access solutions, called ‘Fiber-To-The-Air’, an increasingly widespread and efficient
broadband coverage to the entire country.

Ericsson mobile network-on-a-drone PoC could transform emergency
response
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
23
Solution Description
Communication plays a vital role in emergency response and disaster relief. Extended, flexible and agile network coverage literally saves lives. An Ericsson proof of
concept (PoC) innovation - a temporary cellular network mounted on drones and easy to deploy - could make a major difference to first responders by enabling the
network to track them wherever they go, outdoors or indoor, regardless of terrain. In times of natural disasters or in remote areas, an existing network might fail to provide
necessary coverage and capacity, hindering critical or field operations. Ericsson has conducted a successful proof of concept trial where a 150g cellular network, about
the size of a smartphone, was mounted on a drone and deployed to provide mission-critical voice and video connectivity services in areas with poor or zero network
coverage. Ericsson innovators set themselves a challenge: imagine if field forces are equipped with portable cellular networks that can be carried around anywhere they
go, are easy to deploy in a plug-and-play style and have the flexibility to provide dynamic coverage to track the movement of first responder personnel. Such capabilities
could make a big difference in saving lives and property during emergency or disaster situations. The solution? The equipment for a cellular network doesn’t have to be
as big as a regular base station, which can be about the size of a refrigerator. A cellular network could be similar in size to a mobile phone and mounted on a drone to
provide mobile coverage. The result was a moving, end-to-end network of 150 grams, without battery. The lightweight network comprises both radio and a packet core,
enabling the system to act in isolated mode, without connectivity to a backhaul and the internet. The demo was developed using commercially available hardware and
software products and solutions. Ericsson Research professionals modified the products by integrating several software components. They created a compact hardware
design and battery power supply for attaching all equipment to a drone. The system trial flight times averaged between 10-15 minutes.

Fujitsu Develops Technology to Discover Characteristic Causal Relationships
of Individual Data in Medicine, Marketing, and More
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
26
Solution Description
Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. has successfully developed a technology that uses AI to discover the characteristic cause-and-effect relationships in various pieces of
data relating to people and things in a variety of fields, with possible applications in medicine, marketing, manufacturing, and more. The technology specifically
addresses the need to isolate and identify characteristics from data in different real-world scenarios. In the medical field, for example, it is necessary to identify the
characteristic genes that affect the development of cancer in individual patients. In the field of marketing, sales representatives need to find the characteristic factors
that lead individual customers to make a purchase. Fujitsu has developed a technology to discover the characteristic causality of individual pieces of data by
quickly extracting all the groups of data that have a common correlation from an entire dataset, and evaluating the causality of each group of data to find the
characteristic causality. In a recent trial demonstration, Fujitsu applied the technology to the gene expression data of colorectal cancer patients, estimating the
characteristic causal relationship that appears in the data of each patient. Fujitsu's researchers succeeded in rediscovering the gene of interest in the colorectal
cancer classification, offering a key to the development of a treatment plan individualized for each patient. In addition to medical care and marketing, this
technology enables use cases including customer credit scoring in finance and identification of the cause of product defects in manufacturing. While the use of AI
to tackle real-world problems continues to accelerate, certain challenges remain in applying AI and machine learning technologies to resolve challenges in a variety
of fields, including medicine and marketing. To identify the key drivers of the problem to be solved and develop a strategy, for instance, it's necessary to not only
look at the correlation between attributes A and B, but also at the causal relationship between A and B, such as "A is the cause of B."

Southern Nevada Transportation to Implement Thermal Imaging Solution to Help
Mitigate Risk of COVID-19 Exposure for Staff, Visitors and Community
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
AT&T*, with Hitachi Vantara, the digital infrastructure and solutions subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. is providing advanced temperature screening technology to the
Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) that can detect elevated body temperatures for employees, contractors and visitors at company
facilities. The deployment of thermal analysis units throughout five RTC employee facilities enhances the organization's health and safety measures to help
safeguard staff and riders in the Southern Nevada community. The thermal imaging solution, enabled by Hitachi Vantara's Lumada Video Insights technology and
AT&T's 4G LTE connectivity, uses a thermal camera and machine learning software to flag individuals with an elevated body temperature. The person watching
the monitor will then have the opportunity to visually identify or manually intervene. Providing an average of 1-to-2-second scans per person, the solution is
effective for detecting elevated body temperature which could be an indication of any ailment that causes fever, such as the common cold or the flu, as well as for
COVID-19. RTC is a regional entity that oversees public transportation, traffic management, roadway design and construction funding, transportation planning
and regional planning efforts known as Southern Nevada Strong. The organization oversees areas including Las Vegas and its surrounding communities. The
thermal imaging solution will cover 1,500 employees and contractors, including bus drivers, who come and go throughout RTC facilities each day. The thermal
analysis solution is tailored to RTC's environment. The screener's monitor produces a thermal image by detecting infrared heat from a person and converting it into
an electrical signal. Ahuman silhouette is flagged on the RTC screener's monitor with a red or green light notification determined by a pre-set temperature threshold
and is not saved.

Hitachi Vantara and Rainforest Connection Analyze Tree Top Eco-Acoustic
Data to Predict and Prevent Illegal Logging
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
31
Solution Description
Hitachi Vantara, the digital infrastructure and solutions subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. and Rainforest Connection, the non-profit that uses real-time data to enable partners to stop
deforestation and poaching, have developed a unique solution that uses eco-acoustic data to predict illegal logging in the world's rainforests. Every two seconds1, an area of rainforest
the size of a football field is destroyed, causing the extinction of hundreds of animal and plant species every year, contributing to droughts, and threatening indigenous reserves across
multiple continents. Deforestation accounts for 10%2 of all worldwide carbon emissions, making it a massive contributor to global warming, with up to 90%3 of deforestation
attributed to illegal logging. Rainforest Connection builds devices called 'Guardians' that are installed high in the rainforest canopy to collect acoustic data from the rainforest. The
company detects chainsaw events in real-time and sends rangers an audio file to review, verify and reference to arrange to go on site. This entire process can take up to 14 days and in
some cases trees are lost by the time rangers arrive. Hitachi Vantara has created a new solution to help predict illegal rainforest activity and shorten rangers' time to site. Using the
company's Lumada data analytics technology, Hitachi Vantara built algorithms that create a baseline of rainforest sounds. This bio-acoustic signature then simplifies and accelerates
the process of identifying acoustic anomalies. For example, before starting a chainsaw, loggers will typically scout appropriate locations in advance. Their presence causes a change
in species' acoustic signatures and signals a disruption to the environment. Hitachi Vantara's solution detects these advance warnings and alerts rangers in real-time. Rangers use this
technology get up to five days lead time to arrive on site. This head start gives rangers valuable time to pre-position themselves and prevent even more deforestation than they can.
With both companies sharing common ideals of social responsibility to the environment, Hitachi Vantara and Rainforest Connection established a partnership in 2019. At Hitachi's
conference, NEXT 2019, Hitachi Vantara announced the partnership and donated $250,000 in cash and in-kind services to Rainforest Connection to support its mission. Hitachi Vantara
and Rainforest Connection have since worked together to co-create and design the bio-acoustic solution. The solution is now live in Sumatra, where over 70% of all deforestation is
illegal4. The solution is scheduled to rollout to the entire network of Rainforest Connection guardians, located in over 11 countries, in 2021.

Intel Machine Programming Tool Detects Bugs in Code
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
32
Solution Description
Intel unveiled ControlFlag – a machine programming research system that can autonomously detect errors in code. Even in its infancy, this novel, self-supervised system
shows promise as a powerful productivity tool to assist software developers with the labor-intensive task of debugging. In preliminary tests, ControlFlag trained and
learned novel defects on over 1 billion unlabeled lines of production-quality code. In a world increasingly run by software, developers continue to spend a
disproportionate amount of time fixing bugs rather than coding. It’s estimated that of the $1.25 trillion that software development costs the IT industry every year, 50
percent is spent debugging code1. Debugging is expected to take an even bigger toll on developers and the industry at large. As we progress into an era of heterogenous
architectures — one defined by a mix of purpose-built processors to manage the massive sea of data available — the software required to manage these systems becomes
increasingly complex, creating a higher likelihood for bugs. In addition, it is becoming difficult to find software programmers who have the expertise to correctly,
efficiently and securely program across diverse hardware, which introduces another opportunity for new and harder-to-spot errors in code. When fully realized,
ControlFlag could help alleviate this challenge by automating the tedious parts of software development, such as testing, monitoring and debugging. This would not only
enable developers to do their jobs more efficiently and free up more time for creativity, but it would also address one of the biggest price tags in software development.
ControlFlag’s bug detection capabilities are enabled by machine programming, a fusion of machine learning, formal methods, programming languages, compilers and
computer systems. ControlFlag specifically operates through a capability known as anomaly detection. As humans existing in the natural world, there are certain patterns
we learn to consider “normal” through observation. Similarly, ControlFlag learns from verified examples to detect normal coding patterns, identifying anomalies in code
that are likely to cause a bug. Moreover, ControlFlag can detect these anomalies regardless of programming language.

Intel Debuts 2nd-Gen Horse Ridge Cryogenic Quantum Control Chip
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
33
Solution Description
Intel unveiled Horse Ridge II, its second-generation cryogenic control chip, marking another milestone in the company’s progress toward overcoming
scalability, one of quantum computing’s biggest hurdles. Building on innovations in the first-generation Horse Ridge controller introduced in 2019,
Horse Ridge II supports enhanced capabilities and higher levels of integration for elegant control of the quantum system. New features include the
ability to manipulate and read qubit states and control the potential of several gates required to entangle multiple qubits. The early quantum systems use
room-temperature electronics with many coaxial cables that are routed to the qubit chip inside a dilution refrigerator. This approach does not scale to a
large number of qubits due to form factor, cost, power consumption and thermal load to the fridge. With the original Horse Ridge, Intel took the first
step toward addressing this challenge by radically simplifying the need for multiple racks of equipment and thousands of wires running into and out of
the refrigerator in order to operate the quantum machine. Intel replaced these bulky instruments with a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) that
simplifies system design and uses sophisticated signal processing techniques to accelerate setup time, improve qubit performance and enable the
engineering team to efficiently scale the quantum system to larger qubit counts. Horse Ridge II builds on the first-generation SoC’s ability to generate
radio frequency pulses to manipulate the state of the qubit, known as qubit drive. It introduces two additional control features, paving the way for further
integration of external electronic controls into the SoC operating inside the cryogenic refrigerator.

Solution Description
Intel shared an update on progress within the Intel Neuromorphic Research Community (INRC). The group has grown rapidly since its inception in 2018 and now includes more
than 100 members, with Intel announcing the addition of Lenovo, Logitech, Mercedes-Benz and Prophesee to explore the value of neuromorphic computing for business use
cases. Additionally, Intel summarized a growing body of research results from INRC members that used the company’s neuromorphic research test chip, Loihi. Intel created the
INRC because it believes no one organization alone will effectively unlock the full potential of neuromorphic computing. By collaborating with some of the leading researchers
in this field spanning academia, industry and government, Intel is working to overcome the challenges in the development of neuromorphic computing and to progress it from
research prototypes to industry-leading products over the coming years. Intel and its partners have demonstrated orders of magnitude gains for real-world edge use cases and
are seeing early progress in scaling these workloads to solve larger computational problems. As neuromorphic computing continues to advance, Intel and the INRC have also

Intel Advances Progress in Integrated Photonics for Data Centers
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
35
Solution Description
Intel highlighted industry-leading technological advances toward the realization of the company’s long-standing vision of integrating photonics with low-cost,
high-volume silicon. The advancements represent critical progress in the field of optical interconnects, which address growing challenges around the performance scaling
of electrical input/output (I/O) as compute-hungry data workloads increasingly overwhelm network traffic in data centers. Intel demonstrated advances in key technology
building blocks, including miniaturization, paving the way for tighter integration of optical and silicon technologies. New data-centric workloads are growing every day
within the data center, with ever-increasing data movement from server to server that is taxing the capabilities of the network infrastructure. The industry is quickly
approaching practical limits of electrical I/O performance. As bandwidth demand for compute keeps increasing, electrical I/O isn’t scaling to keep pace, resulting in an
“I/O power wall” that limits available power for compute operations. By bringing optical I/O directly into our servers and onto our packages, we can break down this
barrier, enabling data to move more efficiently. At the Intel Labs virtual event, Intel demonstrated key progress in critical technology building blocks that are fundamental
to the company’s integrated photonics research. These technology building blocks — including light generation, amplification, detection, modulation, complementary
metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) interface circuits and package integration — are essential to achieve integrated photonics. A prototype shown at the event featured
tight coupling of photonics and CMOS technologies, serving as a proof-of-concept of future full integration of optical photonics with core compute silicon. Intel also
showcased micro-ring modulators that are 1000x smaller than traditional components. The large size and cost of conventional silicon modulators have been a barrier to
bringing optical technology onto server packages, which require the integration of hundreds of these devices. These combined results pave the way for the extended use
of silicon photonics beyond the upper layers of the network to inside the server and onto future server packages.

Solution Description
Intel released production of Intel® oneAPI toolkits for developing high-performance, cross-architecture applications for Intel® CPUs, GPUs and FPGAs,
collectively described as XPUs. The version 2021.1 toolkits deliver oneAPI, an open, standards-based, unified cross-architecture programming model that
provides developers the freedom to choose the best hardware for accelerated computing. In addition to the toolkit release, Lobachevsky University of Nizhni
Novgorod announced a new oneAPI Center of Excellence. The workloads benefit from specialized hardware architectures. However, these architectures have
typically required unique languages and tools, which limits code reuse — narrowing hardware choices and hindering adoption of innovative architectures.
oneAPI’s heterogeneous programming model delivers performance without proprietary lock-in while interoperating with code written in familiar languages
such as C, C++, Fortran and Python, and standards such as MPI and OpenMP. Building on its rich heritage of proven developer tools, Intel’s oneAPI Base
Toolkit includes compilers, performance libraries, analysis and debug tools, and a compatibility tool that aids in migrating code written in CUDA to Data
Parallel C++ (DPC++). Additional toolkits for high performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things and rendering provide tools
and components to help accelerate specialized workloads. Intel oneAPI toolkits enable developers to build cross-architecture applications using a single-code
base across XPUs that take advantage of unique hardware features and lower software development and maintenance costs. Developers can choose the best
architecture for the problem they are trying to solve without needing to rewrite software for the next architecture and platform.

Lenovo Introduces Zero-Touch Enrollment on Lenovo Chrome OS Devices
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
41
Solution Description
Lenovo announced its latest offering to support remote workers: zero-touch enrollment is now available on Lenovo Chrome
OS devices. As organizations help employees adapt to new “work-from-anywhere” models, many IT teams are learning just
how prepared (or unprepared) they are for the transition. With entire workforces now offsite, IT must confront getting the right
devices to employees while securing endpoints, surfacing new cloud-based tools, managing overburdened help desks and
more. In the past, IT administrators had to manually enroll each Chrome OS device into their domain, requiring manual IT
efforts. With zero-touch enrollment, the device drop-ships pre-registered and ready for use by the end user with all the
organization’s security policies, applications and profiles. This eliminates the need for manual device enrollment. Zero-touch
enrollment is built with security in mind as hardware-backed attestation helps secure device identity to prevent spoofing
attacks. This offering goes live on the ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook starting December 15 and will expand to other
Lenovo Chrome OS devices throughout 2021.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consec- tetuer Financial, M&A Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Dragos Announces Record-Setting $110M Investment in Industrial Cybersecurity with Series C Funding Dragos, Inc., the global leader in cybersecurity for industrial controls systems (ICS)/operational technology (OT) environments, announced that it has secured $110 million in Series C funding from investors representing some of the world’s largest corporations. The round represents the most substantial investment to date for a company in the ICS/OT cybersecurity sector.[2] The new funding will be used to support an expanding set of global customers across a diversity of industries – including electric, oil & gas, manufacturing, mining, chemicals, and transportation – and to accelerate the next stage of the company’s worldwide operations to address the burgeoning market for ICS/OT cybersecurity solutions. Dragos’s Series C funding round is co-led by National Grid Partners, the independent venture investment and innovation arm of National Grid plc., one of the world’s largest investor-owned energy companies; and Koch Disruptive Technologies, the investment arm of Koch Industries, one of the world’s largest technology companies and manufacturers, which invests in emerging and transformative high-growth technologies. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Arm Moves Production-Level EDA to the Cloud with the Help of AWS For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 11 Solution Description Released in February, the Arm Cortex-M55 CPU quickly became a milestone for the Arm ecosystem because it gave hardware and software developers the potheyr to incorporate unprecedented ML capabilities into the billions of IoT products coming to market. It also was the first time Arm leveraged Arm-based AWS Graviton2 instances to perform production-level design validation for its IP. EDA in many ways is a natural fit for the cloud as chip designers often need simultaneous access to tens of thousands of CPUs to run this compute-intensive task. Meeting tight deadlines can mean consuming millions of core-htheirs per month. Building a data center to accommodate the gigantic bursts of computing potheyr needed for tomorrow’s complex devices is theyll beyond the reach of most organizations. Most EDAworkloads, hotheyver, still largely get performed in on-premises data centers owned and/or managed by semiconductor companies because of the complexities and risks involved in migration. Importantly, design workflows have to be unified and semiconductor designers have to figure out a balance bettheyen workloads that are best suited for cloud, and which make more sense staying in-house. To bridge this chasm, Arm has been working with major EDA partners such as Cadence Design Systems, Mentor Graphics’ (a Siemens Business), and Synopsys to port their EDA tools to Arm. Already they’re seeing significant results in terms of performance and cost savings for customers. Likewise, AWS continues to expand its portfolio to accommodate these types of workloads. The recently unveiled AWS Graviton 2-based C6gn instance delivers up to 100 Gbps networking while providing a 40% price-performance advantage over conventional processors.

With the Cato Cloud API, enterprises and MSPs, can automatically provision new sites and policies, and monitor Cato network analytics and security events from SIEMs and other third-party platforms. The API uses GraphQL and interfaces to the entire Cato Cloud, not one location, replacing what would have been hundreds of third-party API calls with a single Cato Cloud request. One MSP already using the Cato Cloud API is CDW. The company integrated Cato Cloud into ServiceNow and other management solutions to enable deeper visibility into the circuits of a managed service client. Five years ago, Cato reimagined enterprise infrastructure by connecting and securing all edges — remote users, offices, and cloud resources — in a single, global, cloud-native platform. This unique approach afforded Cato customers not just incredible visibility into the infrastructure but also agility in the face of change. For example, with the advent of Covid-19, Cato customers switched thousands of users from offices to work-from-anywhere models in minutes without compromising performance or security. The Cato Cloud API now brings programmatic monitoring and configurability to the extensive visibility and control provided by Cato’s management application. With Cato Cloud API, Cato exposes to third-party platforms all of the same granular networking and security events’ data, already correlated with a common context for easy analysis.

A speed of 1 Gbps on 26 GHz millimetre-wave (mmWave) frequencies, at a distance of 6.5 kilometres from the site (1Gbps with UDP protocol, 700Mbps Speedtest Ookla TCP) has been reached on TIM’s live network. This record confirms the usability of 5G millimetre-wave spectrum, not only for urban, high speed or high-density-only deployment, but also for wider 5G FWA coverage. It builds on the successes previously achieved with millimetre-wave in September when the TIM network connection stably exceeded a speed of 4 Gigabits per second in downlink on a live 5G network. The milestone paves the way to provide TIM customers with enhanced ultrabroadband connections, especially in those areas not yet covered by fibreoptics. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Ericsson mobile network-on-a-drone PoC could transform emergency response For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 23 Solution Description Communication plays a vital role in emergency response and disaster relief. Extended, flexible and agile network coverage literally saves lives. An Ericsson proof of concept (PoC) innovation - a temporary cellular network mounted on drones and easy to deploy - could make a major difference to first responders by enabling the network to track them wherever they go, outdoors or indoor, regardless of terrain. In times of natural disasters or in remote areas, an existing network might fail to provide necessary coverage and capacity, hindering critical or field operations. Ericsson has conducted a successful proof of concept trial where a 150g cellular network, about the size of a smartphone, was mounted on a drone and deployed to provide mission-critical voice and video connectivity services in areas with poor or zero network coverage. Ericsson innovators set themselves a challenge: imagine if field forces are equipped with portable cellular networks that can be carried around anywhere they go, are easy to deploy in a plug-and-play style and have the flexibility to provide dynamic coverage to track the movement of first responder personnel. Such capabilities could make a big difference in saving lives and property during emergency or disaster situations. The solution? The equipment for a cellular network doesn’t have to be as big as a regular base station, which can be about the size of a refrigerator. A cellular network could be similar in size to a mobile phone and mounted on a drone to provide mobile coverage. The result was a moving, end-to-end network of 150 grams, without battery. The lightweight network comprises both radio and a packet core, enabling the system to act in isolated mode, without connectivity to a backhaul and the internet. The demo was developed using commercially available hardware and software products and solutions. Ericsson Research professionals modified the products by integrating several software components. They created a compact hardware design and battery power supply for attaching all equipment to a drone. The system trial flight times averaged between 10-15 minutes.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Hitachi Vantara and Rainforest Connection Analyze Tree Top Eco-Acoustic Data to Predict and Prevent Illegal Logging For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 31 Solution Description Hitachi Vantara, the digital infrastructure and solutions subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. and Rainforest Connection, the non-profit that uses real-time data to enable partners to stop deforestation and poaching, have developed a unique solution that uses eco-acoustic data to predict illegal logging in the world's rainforests. Every two seconds1, an area of rainforest the size of a football field is destroyed, causing the extinction of hundreds of animal and plant species every year, contributing to droughts, and threatening indigenous reserves across multiple continents. Deforestation accounts for 10%2 of all worldwide carbon emissions, making it a massive contributor to global warming, with up to 90%3 of deforestation attributed to illegal logging. Rainforest Connection builds devices called 'Guardians' that are installed high in the rainforest canopy to collect acoustic data from the rainforest. The company detects chainsaw events in real-time and sends rangers an audio file to review, verify and reference to arrange to go on site. This entire process can take up to 14 days and in some cases trees are lost by the time rangers arrive. Hitachi Vantara has created a new solution to help predict illegal rainforest activity and shorten rangers' time to site. Using the company's Lumada data analytics technology, Hitachi Vantara built algorithms that create a baseline of rainforest sounds. This bio-acoustic signature then simplifies and accelerates the process of identifying acoustic anomalies. For example, before starting a chainsaw, loggers will typically scout appropriate locations in advance. Their presence causes a change in species' acoustic signatures and signals a disruption to the environment. Hitachi Vantara's solution detects these advance warnings and alerts rangers in real-time. Rangers use this technology get up to five days lead time to arrive on site. This head start gives rangers valuable time to pre-position themselves and prevent even more deforestation than they can. With both companies sharing common ideals of social responsibility to the environment, Hitachi Vantara and Rainforest Connection established a partnership in 2019. At Hitachi's conference, NEXT 2019, Hitachi Vantara announced the partnership and donated $250,000 in cash and in-kind services to Rainforest Connection to support its mission. Hitachi Vantara and Rainforest Connection have since worked together to co-create and design the bio-acoustic solution. The solution is now live in Sumatra, where over 70% of all deforestation is illegal4. The solution is scheduled to rollout to the entire network of Rainforest Connection guardians, located in over 11 countries, in 2021.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Intel Machine Programming Tool Detects Bugs in Code For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 32 Solution Description Intel unveiled ControlFlag – a machine programming research system that can autonomously detect errors in code. Even in its infancy, this novel, self-supervised system shows promise as a powerful productivity tool to assist software developers with the labor-intensive task of debugging. In preliminary tests, ControlFlag trained and learned novel defects on over 1 billion unlabeled lines of production-quality code. In a world increasingly run by software, developers continue to spend a disproportionate amount of time fixing bugs rather than coding. It’s estimated that of the $1.25 trillion that software development costs the IT industry every year, 50 percent is spent debugging code1. Debugging is expected to take an even bigger toll on developers and the industry at large. As we progress into an era of heterogenous architectures — one defined by a mix of purpose-built processors to manage the massive sea of data available — the software required to manage these systems becomes increasingly complex, creating a higher likelihood for bugs. In addition, it is becoming difficult to find software programmers who have the expertise to correctly, efficiently and securely program across diverse hardware, which introduces another opportunity for new and harder-to-spot errors in code. When fully realized, ControlFlag could help alleviate this challenge by automating the tedious parts of software development, such as testing, monitoring and debugging. This would not only enable developers to do their jobs more efficiently and free up more time for creativity, but it would also address one of the biggest price tags in software development. ControlFlag’s bug detection capabilities are enabled by machine programming, a fusion of machine learning, formal methods, programming languages, compilers and computer systems. ControlFlag specifically operates through a capability known as anomaly detection. As humans existing in the natural world, there are certain patterns we learn to consider “normal” through observation. Similarly, ControlFlag learns from verified examples to detect normal coding patterns, identifying anomalies in code that are likely to cause a bug. Moreover, ControlFlag can detect these anomalies regardless of programming language.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Intel Debuts 2nd-Gen Horse Ridge Cryogenic Quantum Control Chip For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 33 Solution Description Intel unveiled Horse Ridge II, its second-generation cryogenic control chip, marking another milestone in the company’s progress toward overcoming scalability, one of quantum computing’s biggest hurdles. Building on innovations in the first-generation Horse Ridge controller introduced in 2019, Horse Ridge II supports enhanced capabilities and higher levels of integration for elegant control of the quantum system. New features include the ability to manipulate and read qubit states and control the potential of several gates required to entangle multiple qubits. The early quantum systems use room-temperature electronics with many coaxial cables that are routed to the qubit chip inside a dilution refrigerator. This approach does not scale to a large number of qubits due to form factor, cost, power consumption and thermal load to the fridge. With the original Horse Ridge, Intel took the first step toward addressing this challenge by radically simplifying the need for multiple racks of equipment and thousands of wires running into and out of the refrigerator in order to operate the quantum machine. Intel replaced these bulky instruments with a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) that simplifies system design and uses sophisticated signal processing techniques to accelerate setup time, improve qubit performance and enable the engineering team to efficiently scale the quantum system to larger qubit counts. Horse Ridge II builds on the first-generation SoC’s ability to generate radio frequency pulses to manipulate the state of the qubit, known as qubit drive. It introduces two additional control features, paving the way for further integration of external electronic controls into the SoC operating inside the cryogenic refrigerator.

The advancements represent critical progress in the field of optical interconnects, which address growing challenges around the performance scaling of electrical input/output (I/O) as compute-hungry data workloads increasingly overwhelm network traffic in data centers. Intel demonstrated advances in key technology building blocks, including miniaturization, paving the way for tighter integration of optical and silicon technologies. New data-centric workloads are growing every day within the data center, with ever-increasing data movement from server to server that is taxing the capabilities of the network infrastructure. The industry is quickly approaching practical limits of electrical I/O performance. As bandwidth demand for compute keeps increasing, electrical I/O isn’t scaling to keep pace, resulting in an “I/O power wall” that limits available power for compute operations. By bringing optical I/O directly into our servers and onto our packages, we can break down this barrier, enabling data to move more efficiently. At the Intel Labs virtual event, Intel demonstrated key progress in critical technology building blocks that are fundamental to the company’s integrated photonics research. These technology building blocks — including light generation, amplification, detection, modulation, complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) interface circuits and package integration — are essential to achieve integrated photonics. A prototype shown at the event featured tight coupling of photonics and CMOS technologies, serving as a proof-of-concept of future full integration of optical photonics with core compute silicon. Intel also showcased micro-ring modulators that are 1000x smaller than traditional components. The large size and cost of conventional silicon modulators have been a barrier to bringing optical technology onto server packages, which require the integration of hundreds of these devices. These combined results pave the way for the extended use of silicon photonics beyond the upper layers of the network to inside the server and onto future server packages.

As organizations help employees adapt to new “work-from-anywhere” models, many IT teams are learning just how prepared (or unprepared) they are for the transition. With entire workforces now offsite, IT must confront getting the right devices to employees while securing endpoints, surfacing new cloud-based tools, managing overburdened help desks and more. In the past, IT administrators had to manually enroll each Chrome OS device into their domain, requiring manual IT efforts. With zero-touch enrollment, the device drop-ships pre-registered and ready for use by the end user with all the organization’s security policies, applications and profiles. This eliminates the need for manual device enrollment. Zero-touch enrollment is built with security in mind as hardware-backed attestation helps secure device identity to prevent spoofing attacks. This offering goes live on the ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook starting December 15 and will expand to other Lenovo Chrome OS devices throughout 2021.
