Fastly Hits Critical Milestone in Extending App and API Protection to the

Solution Description
Fastly, Inc. a global edge cloud platform provider announced beta availability of the Signal Sciences agent on the Fastly edge cloud
platform. This represents a critical milestone toward Fastly’s vision of empowering developers to protect apps and APIs in every
environment—cloud, on-premise, hybrid and now at the network edge. With this integration, customers will be able to leverage the
powerful signal technology to write and push out rules in real-time to track suspicious requests and block attacks sooner. Through
these advancements, customers will be able to:
• Access smarter detection capabilities: Fastly’s next-gen WAF offers superior detection capabilities by assessing attack indicators
to better define traffic types. If a malicious request is detected, that information is flagged and sent to Fastly’s edge to initiate blocking
capabilities for a smarter and more informed security experience.
• Enable faster, more targeted blocking: The integration will support signal exclusions rules in Signal Sciences’ management
console, informed by attack indicators fed through Signal Sciences’ technology, to ensure benign traffic does not get inadvertently
blocked.

Fastly Launches New Era of Highly-Secure Serverless JavaScript with Zero
Cold Starts
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
12
Solution Description
Fastly, Inc. a global edge cloud platform provider announced the availability of JavaScript in Compute@Edge, allowing developers to build with even more
flexibility in Fastly’s serverless compute environment. With more JavaScript developers in the world than there are for any other development language, the
availability of a faster, more secure way of building with JavaScript brings Compute@Edge’s safety benefits and speedy execution to more workloads around
the globe. For years, JavaScript developers have had to navigate ~250+ milliseconds of startup latency in serverless environments. Known as cold starts, this
latency delays request processing, slowing down time-sensitive applications and websites. To compensate for these delays, developers have tried adding
more functions into a single serverless deployment, leading to increased security risks due to a larger blast radius for attacks. Combined with some alternative
platforms’ lack of proper sandboxing between instances, serverless JavaScript has fallen prey to attackers, and developers have either avoided serverless
technology or had to accept the shortcomings in safety and speed. Fastly solves for both of these challenges through key architectural decisions made when
Compute@Edge was initially built. Instead of relying on existing technologies for server less compute - like reusable containers - Fastly built
Compute@Edge using WebAssembly. This high-performance technology allows Compute@Edge to scale with startup times that are 100x faster than other
serverless offerings on the market, so customers can now execute JavaScript code without having to worry about cold start times. With security in mind,
Fastly developed a unique, highly-secure isolation technology that creates and destroys a sandbox for each individual request from JavaScript compiled
through WebAssembly.

Keysight Technologies, Inc. a leading technology company that delivers advanced design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect
and secure the world, announced it is the first to gain approval by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) of test cases for validating the radio frequency (RF)
performance of 5G new radio (NR) devices that support 5G NR standalone (SA) mode in frequency range 2 (FR2) spectrum bands. GCF approval of these
test cases means modem and device vendors can use Keysight's 5G Device Test Platform to speed verification of RF in both non-standalone (NSA) and SA
mode across FR1 and FR2 (mmWave) 3GPP-specified bands. This achievement indicates that the wireless industry is evolving beyond the use of NSA mode,
which relies on an 4G LTE evolved packet core (EPC). Nearly eighty mobile operators are now investing in 5G SA deployments, using a 5G Core (5GC) to
deliver advanced connectivity services. More than eleven percent of all commercially available 5G devices now support both sub-6GHz and mmWave
spectrum according to the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA). 5G NR deployment in SA mode and in FR2 is expected to support applications such
as fixed wireless access (FWA), which uses customer premises equipment (CPE) to deliver wired-broadband data speeds to homes and businesses. Keysight's
5G network emulation solutions for FR2 leverage the company's UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform and 5G over-the-air (OTA) compact antenna test (CATR)
range chambers to access a variety of 5G NR test cases. The use of common hardware and software platforms across an ecosystem consisting of chipset and
device vendors, test houses and mobile operators, accelerates and simplifies device testing.

Ericsson and MediaTek set uplink speed record on mmWave using carrier
aggregation
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Ericsson and MediaTek performed a four-component carrier (4CC) uplink aggregation on millimeter wave (mmWave) that resulted in a peak
throughput rate of 495 Mbps – 425 Mbps in New Radio (NR) plus 70 Mbps in LTE. The demo performed in June used pre-commercial software on a
device containing a MediaTek M80 5G chipset. The lab test used Ericsson RAN Compute baseband 6648 with the AIR 5331 millimeter wave radio.
The test, which focused on uplink carrier aggregation, is the first of its kind. It showed how this solution can help communications service providers
deliver higher data rates and capacity for uplink applications such as user-initiated streaming (AR/VR) and content creation. Fast uplink performance
means the user or subscriber does not have to be concerned with weak signals when video-conferencing on phones, for example. Downlink or download
speed has long dominated what we use the internet for – from surfing to streaming. The Covid-19 pandemic has prompted many across the world to
work or study from home, highlighting the importance of uplink or upload speed performance. Upload speed dictates how quickly data is sent from the
computer or handheld device to the internet. This includes uploading files, such as photos and videos to social media or collaborative worksites. Upload
speeds are also crucial to the image and sound quality of video conferencing. Strong uplink means less or even none of those frozen screens, or broken
audio, when using apps like Skype or Microsoft Teams. Similarly, faster uplink improves voice over internet protocol (VoIP) calls and online gaming
experience.

Long-term partners Ericsson and Telia have joined forces with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. to take 5G innovation to a new level by jointly testing a new
industry-first feature in Telia’s commercial 5G network. This adds to Telia and Ericsson’s 5G alliances with the purpose to enable better 5G for both smartphone
users and advanced and emerging 5G use cases for consumers and enterprises. This new 5G Standalone* feature – the inactive state of Radio Resource Control
(RRC Inactive) – reduces the amount of signaling required during state transitions, making it possible to significantly lower both latency and battery consumption,
which are crucial requirements for many Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G use cases, including critical control of remote devices, enhanced mobile broadband, and
smart transport. RRC Inactive was implemented using Ericsson’s software and 5G Standalone network nodes and a test device powered by the Snapdragon X60
Modem-RF System. The companies were able to demonstrate the successful transition between a connected state and inactive state without the device falling back
to idle. The transition to this new inactive state reduces the amount of signaling required during state transitions, significantly lowering latency for the end user, as
was seen in this test where the access latency was shortened by up to 3x. This shortened time lag will have a big impact in user experience in applications such as
cloud gaming where fast multi-player interactions require 20-30ms end-to-end latency. For an immersive VR gaming experience, the latency and reliability
requirements are even more demanding. Since the shorter latency with this feature makes it possible to reduce the inactivity timer, the partners were also able to
see battery savings of up to 30 percent for the modem compared to not activating the feature. While the screen and its associated electronics are the most
power-consuming components in a mobile device, implementing the feature will result in a longer battery life for a 5G smart phone user, too.

As we enter a new age for electronics powered by 5G and eventually 6G, MIT and Ericsson are collaborating on two research projects that seek to
help build a new network infrastructure needed to empower the truly revolutionary use cases the next generation of mobile networks will bring.
The new mobile network generations bring ultra-fast speed, low latency, and superb reliability to the end user. However large, feature rich
networks are complex structures to manage for network operators. Ericsson is working to research cognitive networks, which rely on artificial
intelligence (AI) to enable a secure, highly automized, data-driven network operation. To improve the compute power, speed and energy efficiency
of cognitive networks, Ericsson Research and the MIT Materials Research Laboratory are collaborating to research new designs in lithionic chips
enabling neuromorphic computing, offering exponentially more energy efficient AI processing. This could enable fully cognitive networks with
reduced operation complexity and energy consumption compared to. In addition to research on lithionics, Ericsson and the MIT Research
Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) are collaborating on research of mobile networks that connect trillions of sensors and other “zero-energy” devices
around us. Powering these devices in a cost-efficient way, possibly directly via a radio signal, is a significant technology challenge. The research
by Ericsson and MIT RLE may show how devices can harvest energy from radio signals and other sources, as well as how systems can be designed
to utilize this low power to accomplish simple tasks, including how a mobile network may be designed to connect and control these devices.

Fujitsu and France’s Inria Develop New Time-Series AI Technology to Identify Causes of Data Anomalies Fujitsu Limited and Inria, the French national
research institute for digital science and technology announced the development of a new AI technology that can identify factors contributing to anomalies
in time series data. In recent years, various kinds of time-series data collected in fields including healthcare, social infrastructure, and manufacturing have
been leveraged by AI to perform situational judgment and detect anomalies. In the case of time-series data, however, there are a wide range of factors that
can contribute to AI decision-making. This means that even experts find it difficult to notice what kind of changes in the data contributed to an anomaly
detection making it difficult to take appropriate measures to prevent their occurrence. Fujitsu and Inria, more specifically the Inria’s DATASHAPE Project
Team led by Frédéric Chazal in France, have now successfully developed a new technology based on Topological Data Analysis (TDA) (1) that can identify
the factors contributing to anomaly detections by AI for time series data and visualize the differences in AI decisions during normal and anomalous
circumstances. Fujitsu and Inria anticipate that this will contribute to the analysis of the causes of anomalies in time series data for various phenomena,
clarifying the mechanism surrounding the occurrence of anomalies, as well as the discovery of new solutions to these. This technology will be presented as
one of just 3% of total submitted papers as a “Long Talk” presentation at the Thirty-eighth International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), the
leading international conference in the field of machine learning, which opens virtually from July 18th, 2021.

Ericsson, Deutsche Telekom, and Samsung have successfully completed the world’s first 5G end-to-end (E2E) network slicing trial, which was carried out
at Deutsche Telekom’s Bonn lab on a Samsung S21 commercial device tethered to a VR headset. This customer-focused innovation shows the benefits of
network slicing optimized for cloud VR game streaming. The trial used a commercial-grade 5G standalone (SA) infrastructure provided by Ericsson,
including Radio Access Network (RAN), 5G Cloud Core, slice orchestration and ordering automation. Through 5G E2E network slicing, different service
characteristics and quality parameters can be provided to each slice and adapted to customer needs with full isolation between slices. By creating multiple
virtual networks on a single physical network infrastructure, service providers can develop new, differentiated services and business models without having
to compromise on quality. The test was carried out for a cloud VR streaming game use case with two independent E2E network slices consisting of a default
mobile broadband slice and a cloud VR gaming–optimized slice. The gaming slice was designed and configured to enable higher throughput and stable low
latency, while also providing resource isolation between the two slices. The trial case demonstrated a superior experience on the gaming slice even under
congested network conditions. The trial also saw the successful achievement of another important world-first milestone- Namely the introduction of a 5G UE
slicing policy feature (UE route selection policy, or URSP) that allows a device to steer applications and services with specific requirements to a defined
slice.. This means customers can experience great service quality by serving applications with the right network slice.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Fastly Launches New Era of Highly-Secure Serverless JavaScript with Zero Cold Starts For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 12 Solution Description Fastly, Inc. a global edge cloud platform provider announced the availability of JavaScript in Compute@Edge, allowing developers to build with even more flexibility in Fastly’s serverless compute environment. With more JavaScript developers in the world than there are for any other development language, the availability of a faster, more secure way of building with JavaScript brings Compute@Edge’s safety benefits and speedy execution to more workloads around the globe. For years, JavaScript developers have had to navigate ~250+ milliseconds of startup latency in serverless environments. Known as cold starts, this latency delays request processing, slowing down time-sensitive applications and websites. To compensate for these delays, developers have tried adding more functions into a single serverless deployment, leading to increased security risks due to a larger blast radius for attacks. Combined with some alternative platforms’ lack of proper sandboxing between instances, serverless JavaScript has fallen prey to attackers, and developers have either avoided serverless technology or had to accept the shortcomings in safety and speed. Fastly solves for both of these challenges through key architectural decisions made when Compute@Edge was initially built. Instead of relying on existing technologies for server less compute - like reusable containers - Fastly built Compute@Edge using WebAssembly. This high-performance technology allows Compute@Edge to scale with startup times that are 100x faster than other serverless offerings on the market, so customers can now execute JavaScript code without having to worry about cold start times. With security in mind, Fastly developed a unique, highly-secure isolation technology that creates and destroys a sandbox for each individual request from JavaScript compiled through WebAssembly.

  • 50. Partner Ecosystem Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Ericsson and MediaTek set uplink speed record on mmWave using carrier aggregation For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 41 Ericsson and MediaTek performed a four-component carrier (4CC) uplink aggregation on millimeter wave (mmWave) that resulted in a peak throughput rate of 495 Mbps – 425 Mbps in New Radio (NR) plus 70 Mbps in LTE. The demo performed in June used pre-commercial software on a device containing a MediaTek M80 5G chipset. The lab test used Ericsson RAN Compute baseband 6648 with the AIR 5331 millimeter wave radio. The test, which focused on uplink carrier aggregation, is the first of its kind. It showed how this solution can help communications service providers deliver higher data rates and capacity for uplink applications such as user-initiated streaming (AR/VR) and content creation. Fast uplink performance means the user or subscriber does not have to be concerned with weak signals when video-conferencing on phones, for example. Downlink or download speed has long dominated what we use the internet for – from surfing to streaming. The Covid-19 pandemic has prompted many across the world to work or study from home, highlighting the importance of uplink or upload speed performance. Upload speed dictates how quickly data is sent from the computer or handheld device to the internet. This includes uploading files, such as photos and videos to social media or collaborative worksites. Upload speeds are also crucial to the image and sound quality of video conferencing. Strong uplink means less or even none of those frozen screens, or broken audio, when using apps like Skype or Microsoft Teams. Similarly, faster uplink improves voice over internet protocol (VoIP) calls and online gaming experience. Description

  • 53. Partner Ecosystem Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Industry-first 5G feature enables lower latency and increased battery life For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 44 Long-term partners Ericsson and Telia have joined forces with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. to take 5G innovation to a new level by jointly testing a new industry-first feature in Telia’s commercial 5G network. This adds to Telia and Ericsson’s 5G alliances with the purpose to enable better 5G for both smartphone users and advanced and emerging 5G use cases for consumers and enterprises. This new 5G Standalone* feature – the inactive state of Radio Resource Control (RRC Inactive) – reduces the amount of signaling required during state transitions, making it possible to significantly lower both latency and battery consumption, which are crucial requirements for many Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G use cases, including critical control of remote devices, enhanced mobile broadband, and smart transport. RRC Inactive was implemented using Ericsson’s software and 5G Standalone network nodes and a test device powered by the Snapdragon X60 Modem-RF System. The companies were able to demonstrate the successful transition between a connected state and inactive state without the device falling back to idle. The transition to this new inactive state reduces the amount of signaling required during state transitions, significantly lowering latency for the end user, as was seen in this test where the access latency was shortened by up to 3x. This shortened time lag will have a big impact in user experience in applications such as cloud gaming where fast multi-player interactions require 20-30ms end-to-end latency. For an immersive VR gaming experience, the latency and reliability requirements are even more demanding. Since the shorter latency with this feature makes it possible to reduce the inactivity timer, the partners were also able to see battery savings of up to 30 percent for the modem compared to not activating the feature. While the screen and its associated electronics are the most power-consuming components in a mobile device, implementing the feature will result in a longer battery life for a 5G smart phone user, too.
