I have put my opinions on Leadership via this presentation slides. I have highlighted the major areas that needs to be considered and practiced by every leaders in today's corporate world.
2. Let’s start with small story
There was a guy, who use to coordinate and lead the team of 10 in a construction
company.
They use to take small project of constructing and fixing local hand pump in rural areas.
Since the organization was independent, The team had no dependencies. Entire
workflow was managed and executed by them.
They use to complete overall process in max 48 hours of timeline. There was no record
of delay or error in what they use to deliver.
The work functions were divided based on skills and expertise of each individual worker.
Leader was so time bound guy that he wanted everyone to finish their part of work in
the clocked time.
The Key Point we can take from above story is:
• Leader was strict and was goal oriented.
• He was specific and use to organize work based on worker’s skills and expertise.
• He was timeline specific guy.
• He also was quality concerned.
3. Based on above story, What are the possible opinions that we can make on Leader’s leadership skill.
Does it worth calling him good leader?
Answer is Yes but can be BETTER.
Though he had maintained accurate timeline, delivered quality service, raised consumer satisfaction, We cannot
categorize him among good leaders.
Leadership is not always about perfect delivery with 5 stars rating. It is something more than that…
When we talk about leadership, there are certain that comes in consideration.
1. Are you leading your team to follow the discipline?
2. Have you considered cost factor and tried building good strategy to increase productivity in every alternate
projects you get?
3. Is your team happy to work with you and are they comfortable sharing their ideas or perception?
4. Are you focused on the growth of the business, Growth for yourself and Growth for your subordinates?
5. Are you delegating and tried employee learn along with their work?
6. Have you tried being friendly to your subordinates and thought of planning team outing for refreshment after
completion of any deal?
7. Have you prepared the workflow calendar, clocked workers contribution and backup approach to reduce
risk?
8. Last but not least, have you considered consumer benefits and expectations from the project before
designing solution or making any strategy?
4. • Are you leading your team to follow the discipline?
No matter how comfortable and flexible you are with your juniors or team members, There should be certain
rules, regulations and set of disciplines that should be followed by entire working group. The leaders are
responsible for setting the set of rules and monitor employees, if it is being followed or not. This avoids the
negligence of employees.
Rules are to maintain discipline not to bother employees, hence should be specific, clear and limited. Too
much of rules doesn’t let you be yourself, you not being yourself is bad for team, company as well as you.
• Have you considered cost factor and tried building good strategy to increase productivity in every
alternate projects you get?
“Minimize cost, Maximize productivity” this is highly accepted mantra by all the leaders. For same, They
need to come up with better strategy and perfect practice. Though we do same task every day, we find
different learning and area we can improve better. Similarly, with every alternate projects that leader takes
ownership of, they should keep supervising and find the factor where they can be better because no
delivery can be done with 100% perfection, There is always something, somewhere we can improvise. Thus
good leaders always senses the change or area of change which ultimately brings good process overall.
5. • Is your team happy to work with you and are they comfortable sharing their ideas or perception?
How fair, flexible, clear and concern are you about your team is the major factor that makes you idol for them.
Being leader, one most be flexible and good listener so that employee would feel comfortable to share their
opinions and there should be good bonding among leaders and its subordinates for better productivity. Me,
mine and myself kind of attitude can arise lots of misunderstanding and conflict. Leaders should have win-win
nature so that worker under him feels good about him, since you respect what they say and are concerned of
their growth too.
• Are you focused on the growth of the business, Growth for yourself and Growth for your subordinates?
Like answered in previous question, Leader should have multi-vision, that can be for a sake of company, for
his/her own sake or for a sake of his subordinates. One should work with objective for growth of all three factors.
They should come up with strategy that can actually satisfy the board level as well as ground level. When
employee have feeling that leader is concerned about their growth, appreciate for good work and monitor
them properly, They put their best in the work which in turn gives benefit to organization.
• Are you delegating and tried employee learning along with their work?
Delegation is best practice because It gives sense of learning and employee with overall knowledge can
perform better. Being leader, one should not limit the resource based on their expertise. Instead, they should find
better ways to delegate the knowledge. By this, they can have resources with maximum and better knowledge
of the process and can assign right people to right task. Also, they can manage backup for any work and use
the alternate resources for the required task. This can save time and unnecessary effort.
6. • Have you tried being friendly to your subordinates and thought of planning team outing for refreshment
after completion of any deal?
After long tiring deal or months of working, Leader should find mode of refreshment, by which entire team
can regain energy, make better bonding, can discuss better moves for next project and find some time for
their personal refreshment. Now a days, This strategy is practiced in most of the organization and company
spend quite lot of money for the refreshment of employees. Team lunch/dinner or team outing are general
and effective idea. Leaders being workaholic can torture the entire chain of resources, hence there should
be gap for refuelling the energy.
• Have you prepared the workflow calendar, clocked workers contribution and backup approach to
reduce risk?
Managed and Routine workflow leads to on-time and accurate delivery. This also reduces the last hour
pressure on the team. Hence Leader should manage the workflow, set the timeline and get with done with
accuracy. Messed workflow sometime leads to extension in time with less productive work. Also, Leader
should have capability to think proactively. In many cases, Things does not work as planned and process in
turn fails, Hence to get over such situation, leader should have proactive approach to balance the risk.
• Last but not least, have you considered consumer benefits and expectations from the project before
designing solution or making any strategy?
‘Give more than expected’. Better solution leads to better result and better result gives more satisfaction.
Before executing any solution plan, Leader most review them twice, thrice and more to make sure if the
design meets the client expectation. If no, it’s not good idea to proceed, you may lose your customer. If
yes, is there someway you can add value to the process and deliver more than expected.
