2. DESCRIPTION OF RABINDRANATH
TAGORE
Rabindranath Tagore { Thakur } was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize [in 1993}.He Is Called
VISVA- KAVI {World –Poet} and is indeed among the world’s greatest men.
Rabindranath got married to Mrinalini Devi and entered domestic life.
Tagore was a multi faceted genius. Poet, playwright, story writer, novelist, essayist, patriot he
had many dimensions.
He wrote for adults as well as children. Young and old, men and women all admired and
appreciated his work.
Rabindranath Tagore will be ever-relevant, ever-reversed for his work.

Stories) written by Rabindranath
Tagore. They impress readers with
their depth of understanding and
beauty of expression.
Tagore valued freedom of thought.
He also urges the need for
educating the girl child and giving
her a good chance in life.
He was also against superstitions.
4. SUMMARY
The Painter- The Chitrakar is a story about Chunnilal who
wants to scribble and paint but his worldly-wise uncle
comes down very strictly upon his artistic attempts.
Chuni’s mother, in spite of being a helpless young
widow, rebels against her brother and saves the artist in
her child.
5. Once upon a tie there was a family who lived in Kolkata. There was
Satyavati, Mukunda and their son, Chunilal. Mukunda was a lawyer in
the court and his wife Satyavati was a housewife. Mukunda after his
death left debts and his wife and son Chunilal would be under Gobinda’s
guardianship.
Gobinda was a money maker he wanted to acquire wealth by using
unfair means and practices. He had got high position in the British firm.
His main in his life was to make money, he always used to chant in
Chunnilal’s ear “Paisa Karo”.
Satyawati was against all this, doesn’t want her child to get in making
money by indulging in unfair means. She right from her childhood was
interested in artwork. It was her hobby to fashion craft items out of
clay, flour , paper and cloth. She used to makes objects- but those
objects were of no utility. After death of her husband she engrossed
herself in this artwork.
6. Chunnilal, her son son developed a tremendous fancy for
art and craftwork. He was not able to maintain it a secret.
He developed a great passion for art that he used to spill
out of his exercise books and expressed the art work on the
walls.
Rangalal was Satyawati’s cousin who had great passion for
art, but his modern was much criticized and some
appreciated his art. He was moved by Chunnilal’ art work
when once he visited his cousin’s house.
Rangalal told Chunnilal that his paintings were original and
that he should not destroy them he should give to him.
7. Gobinda did not like Chunnilal to waste his time and energy
in artwork, he was interested that Chunnilal should focus
on making money, he tore the paintings made by Chunnilal,
and started crying. Till now Satyawati never protested
against anything but that day she was not able to tolerate
any more. She told him that even if his son would become
beggar in the near future but she does not want him to
become a cunning person who uses unfair means to make
money.
She along with her son left the house and went to her
cousin’s house, Rangalal as she does not want her son asset
which has been gifted by God to be wasted like that.
