New Initiatives in 2011
All Kerala Humanitarian Technology Contest (AKHTC)
The All Kerala Humanitarian Technology Contest was initiated by LINK in 2011 to find out the best
Humanitarian Technical projects among the IEEE Student members of Kerala Section. Proposals
were invited and the top 5 projects were funded by LINK to make a prototype model of their idea.
A technical committee including Section executives were the judging panel of AKHTC. The final
project demos were displayed during the LINK Camp.
LINK e-Tools (LINK/Student Branch Management Tool)
LINK e-Tools consist of 2 parts – LINK Student Branch Details tool and LINK e-publicity tool. IEEE
LINK Student Branch Details Tool where relevant information about all the current Student
Branches in LINK are covered. The event count and activities are also provided. The Student Branch
activities are tracked, comparisons are made and the final statistics are highlighted. A judgement
on whether the Student Branch is active or inactive can be made with ease, thanks to this tool. A
similar analysis is made about HUB activities as well. IEEE LINK ePublicity Tool enable Student
Branches/HUB’s to send alerts regarding any new Events, Announcement, News and Newsletters to
all student members under IEEE Kerala Section as HTML mail with addressing personally like IEEE
Spectrum Alert.

LINK Online Survey v2.0
We got 127 responses from 39 SBs. The survey questionnaires were also designed to address the
needs and current approach of LINK. We got around 85% positive responses from the crowd.
LINK Membership sustainability Initiative
As with any organization, membership sustainability is an issue of key concern even to the IEEE.
LINK, despite being a matured and optimizing organization in IEEE student activities, faces the
same issue in sustaining student members within IEEE. It remains a challenging task to convince
student members to continue their membership into their final year in college and after
graduation. To analyze the issue of why even student members with excellent track record in IEEE
activities discontinue their membership, LINK has formed a special team called ‘LINK Membership
Sustainability Ad-hoc Committee’ whose prime responsibility will be to gather membership
information from Student Branches across Kerala, analyze root-causes for lack of membership
retention and suggest remedial action to improve membership sustainability in LINK.
