The power struggle between man and the wild has been relevant since the beginning of time; at
humanity's start, the domination of nature was necessary for survival. But as hunting and gathering
fell out of fashion and factories and farming began to reign, the destruction of our environment has
become a very real threat. The question, then, becomes what mankind's place is in the wild earth it
was born into. Intentionally or not, humans have explored their role in the wilderness through art

Thomas Cole, who was born in 1801 in England. He went to Philadelphia and Ohio as a traveling

about to dawn, bringing with it youthful, risqué morals and a carefree look on life. From these
ideals, a new, strongly American form of entertainment would emerge: musical theatre. Most

from reality and an entry into the imagination. The grand and splashy components that make up

Formal Analysis: The Oxbow Thomas Cole created The Oxbow in1836. He created it using oil on

"How did you overcome your failures in life?" was a question I was asked. I made plenty of
mistakes in life but one thing I can say is I learned from my mistakes and I am trying my best now
not to make the same mistakes I have made. I have been in different experiences that caused me to
learn from my mistakes. Some experiences I've been in is dealing with is my ex–boyfriend who
wasn't treating me nice , friends and family walk over me, and how I wasn't trusting God when I

The Importance Of Romantic Love
Love is a tricky thing. I, as I'm sure many of us, grew up with the notion that happiness was an
outside job, that I was not actually in charge of my own happiness. For me, I learned, through some
really terrible examples, that I needed to depend on others to feel happy, fulfilled, whole, and so
romantic love became very sticky. It became a game of trying to figure out what I needed to say and
do to try and get the other person to do what I thought I needed them to do in order for me to feel

thing. I got better and better at it with time and practice, but there was still a rub when it came to

but it always seemed to end up that way.

Cole Porter Night Essay
The first performance of the night was "Night and Day." This song was composed by Cole Porter in
1932. This modern era composition by Cole Porter would be considered a sonata genre on the night
of the performance. A sonata is a musical composition that is performed by one to two instruments.
In my case, from attending this recital, the Saxophone and Piano make up the two instruments.
Indeed, the whole night was a night of jazzy performances, but this first song was a more upbeat
song, such as an allegro tempo. The tune was very enjoyable.
The second performance of the night was "East of the Sun," composed by Brooks Bowman in 1934.
This composition is from the modern era and the genre of this piece is also a sonata as it was played
by the two performers of the night. This piece was more of a moderato allegro tempo as it was at
fast pace but not as fast as the first song. This songs was very jazzy and soothing. In the middle of
the piece the piano had a solo. After the solo, the piece slowed down and got quieter. Overall, this
piece was calmer than the first song.
The third song of the recital was called "Stablemates." Stablemates was composed by Benny Golson
in 1955. This song is also part of the modern era and is a sonata genre. This song was also upbeat

This song also had an allegro moderato tempo. In this performance, the saxophone was the main
focus. The piano was just in the background, as for the tunes played before both the saxophone and
piano were important. Indeed, there was a solo for the piano in this song. I assume that the
saxophone player needs a time to rest, therefore the piano plays a solo in the middle of the piece.
Overall, this song did have organization to it and had a lot of feel to it, as most jazz performances

Ruby Bridge: A Short Story Of Ruby Bridges
During the segregated times back in the south was very hard to deal with especially being a kid. You
weren't allowed to go anywhere you wanted too or do many things, especially if you were black.
Everything was always divided into two main groups which were whites only and blacks only. Signs
like these were hung up almost everywhere from water fountains to bathrooms and also from buses
to schools. Fortunately the schools being segregated will eventually change because of Ruby
Bridges. Ruby bridges was the first black child to go to a all–white Elementary school during the
New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960. Even though Ruby Bridges was just a young girl
she had multiple character traits that she used to help during that time. Such as courage, respect,
perseverance and faith. No matter if it was a good or bad day Ruby went to school and respected her
teacher Ms. Henry. Ruby's perseverance was outstanding and admiring because everyday she kept
trying to learn new things and have a education even during the hard times. Ruby had so much
courage that I really admired a lot, because she was able to walk past the people that was calling her

Feet splash on the muddy ground through the worn fields of Bull Run.
Endless land covered in the blood of the Union and Confederate soldiers. The faint
smell of gunpowder still lingers in the air, and smoke covers the fields as if death
himself is horrified of the battle he had watched. As the clouds start to part the whole
scene becomes clear. A small clearing surrounded by trees and a hill littered with
burnt carriages, blankets, dresses, and baskets. Cannons and broken down artillery
are spread along with dismantled body's covering the ground. Barely leaving any
grass to poke through. A faint voice is heard echoing through the pity full land.
"CHARLIE... CHARLIE!" Every second the voice seems to be getting closer.
"Charlie... I found you." "Hey Pete... long time no see surprised you're not in

Kiss Me Kate. My mother still talks about it to this day, the first high school play she was ever in.
She acts like her performance was as good if not better than the those on Broadway. And to think
I've never seen the show that is my mother's "claim to fame." (Well other than her short renditions
she gave in the kitchen). But now it was my turn to watch the real show from the audience of the
Rockwell, instead of our kitchen table.
The format of this show, a play within a play, allowed it to have another layer of depth. There was
the plot behind the scenes, where we got an inside look at the actors' lives beyond the stage, and also
the plot onstage in their performance of The Taming of the Shrew. From the start, we see the all the
chaos that goes into a show in the opening number "Another Op'nin', Another Show." What a way to
start a show! It dives right into this lively song and dance number with the whole cast on stage,
while also introducing its main character. It's certainly entertaining and it's effective. As I watched it
really opened my eyes to think about goes on even behind that fake backstage wall, where the real
work happens. I found that even with this extra layer I never experienced any confusion as to what
was happening before me.
Although the feelings of the actors often spilled over into their performances on stage, and their
characters influenced their real life, it allowed the play a connection to each situation, and providing
the audience
