The Evolving Role of
Human Resources
In today’s business landscape, the longstanding functions of
human resources are changing.
Because employee information processing and compensation
coordination are now largely automated, human resources
departments in many large organizations now have the time
necessary to take on new responsibilities, with duties more
aligned to those of a “strategic partner.”
Many CEOs want their human resources departments to
integrate with the rest of the company, often including
understanding profit and loss and working toward broad
organizational objectives.
HR professionals are increasingly being called on to interpret
data and use it to guide decision making in areas such as
headcount and employee recruitment.
Many business leaders have begun encouraging a close
relationship between HR and finance, primarily as a way to
manage growth in an effective manner.
As such, HR professionals must now be able to express talent
initiatives in business terms and justify investments from a
financial perspective.
