Table tennis is a sport that relaxes me because I’m enjoying it and at the same time, I’m also learning. It’s different from other sports like basketball, volleyball, and so on. Table tennis helps people to focus and improve their own skills unlike any other team sport, it is more concentrated to your own abilities. I’ve been playing it since high school.I’m not professional in playing table tennis. I just love to play it because it enhances my skills. I think you should also try it because it’s fun and it gives you a lot of benefits. Also, it will be useful for those who are taking PE 3 right now.
The sport got its start in England towards the end of the 18th century when, after dinner, some upper-middle class Victorians decided to turn their dining room tables into miniature versions of the traditional lawn tennis playing field. Several different every-day objects were employed in constructing the sport. They used a line of books as the net.
They used a line of books as the net. Rackets were lids from empty cigar boxes, and a little later, parchment paper stretched around a frame. The ball would be either a ball of string, a champagne cork or rubber ball.
When the game first started it was called by a number of different names. “Whifwhaf,” “gossamer,” and “flim flam” were commonly used to describe it. The words, were derived from the sound that the ball made when hit back and forth on the table.
In 1901 though, English manufacturer J. Jaques & Son Ltd registered one of the more popular names, Ping-Pong, as a copyright. He later sold the trademark to the Parker Brothers in the United States. Then in the 1920's the name and the sport were revived in Europe as table tennis.
An English Patent (number 11,037) was filed on 15 July 1890 when David Foster of England introduced the first action game of tennis on a table in 1890.Only one example is known to have survived and it's now on display in the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) Museum in Switzerland.Foster's Parlour Table Games was a compendium of table versions of Cricket, Football and Lawn Tennis.
The grip favoured by most players in the western world is known as the "shake-hands" or "western" grip. Although thereare other grips - notably the "penhold" grip used predominantly by the Chinese, Japanese and the Koreans. The western grip is easier to learn and does not have some of the drawbacks that the penhold grip has.
The table tennis grip is important because it controls the angle of the racket. And the angle of the racket controls the height of the ball, the depth of the ball, the speed of the ball, the direction of the ball, the type of spin and the amount of spin.
The purpose of this stroke is to stop your opponent from playing an attacking stroke, so you should try to make sure that your shot is also played short over the net.
This shot would normally be used when your opponent plays his shot in such a way that the ball approaches you with height and/or depth.
The purpose of this stroke is to play aggressively and stop your opponent from playing an attacking stroke, so you should try to make sure that your shot lands close to your opponent's baseline or sideline.
This shot would normally be used when your opponent plays his shot in such a way that, if you didn't hit the ball, it would bounce at least twice on your side of the table, i.e. short over the net.
A legal serviceBalance the ball in the palm of your free hand and project the ball upwards, as near vertically as possible.Allow the ball to drop and then hit the ball with your racket so that it bounces on your side of the table and then goes over the net and bounces on your opponent’s side of the table.
Service returnThe return of serve is regarded as the second most important table tennis stroke because it's the first opportunity for you as the receiver to play the ball.If you're still a beginner you should, depending upon the depth of your opponent’s service, return the ball using one of the four basic table tennis strokes:Forehand or backhand push (from a short service)Forehand or backhand drive (from a long service)

And according to the makers of Brodmann Blades, eliminating the handle and sticking your hand inside the paddle will make you a better player. Each Broadmann Blade consists of two paddle faces, a front and a back, with a gap between them. You just insert your hand in the gap between the faces (sandwich-style), stick your thumb through the thumb hole on the side, and wear it like a glove.According to the company website, there are several reasons. First of all, they say, the Blades are more comfortable than traditional paddles because you’re not constantly clutching a handle. You also get a lot more sensory feedback, as you can feel exactly where and how the ball hits the paddle. The result of these benefits, we’re told, include better ball control, a faster, easier game, and a superior backhand.
First of all, this is a highly, physical game. It's really great if you're working to improve hand-eye coordination, which is important in everyday life! In addition, it's an arm workout as all of your arm's muscles are constantly in motion. Also, when you’re really into the game, you will probably move your whole body just to get the ball.A high-speed game of table tennis can burn a significant amount of calories and improve your concentration and reflexes. It also helps your cardiovascular system and improves your overall fitness level.
In table tennis, players bat with a small paddle, using it to toss the ball to the opponent on the other side of the table. There is no heavy playing equipment in use and there is minimal risk of collisions or falls. Table tennis is one of the few competitive sports that offer players an opportunity to indulge in fast movements without straining the joints. It is perfect for people who are recovering from sports injuries or those having joint problems that prohibit them from participating in other high-speed sports.Improved reflexes result because of the fast-paced nature of the sport over very short distances. Both gross and fine muscle movements are improved.
Table tennis is accurately described as 'high-speed chess'. The mental alertness encouraged by the sport's tactical challenges is particularly good for seniors. Table tennis is available year-round as a social outlet. It is one of the few sports in which size, age, and sex are irrelevant competitive factors. This aspect has led to it's adoption as the world's most popular life sport and the slogan "table tennis: anybody, anytime, anywhere".This game also has several mental benefits. A player has to be on his or her toes at all times to keep up with the demands of this high-intensity sport. Concentration is the key in the game and it requires the most extreme focus. Regardless of a player's age, size, or gender, anyone can play!
These players are extremely fast and use top spin loops (shots that pull the ball upward and forward, causing it to bounce high into the air when it makes contact with the opponent's racket - the looper can then easily smash or "kill" the ball).
Modern choppers, also called defenders, also have to know how and when to attack the ball well. Since this style requires a lot of control, it is not as fast as an aggressive style. The player's footwork is extremely important as they move around the court more than any other style, retreiving all the loops that aggressive players deliver.
This is the traditional style of play in China, and contributes to the country's success in the sport. These players use an entirely different grip, where the racket is held between the thumb and forefinger, as with a pen. There are blades specially built for penholders where the handle is raised about an inch on one side.
Blockers are also defenders, but unlike choppers, they do not play with a pimpled rubber. Instead of chopping the ball they hold their racket in a some-what upright position, pulling it slightly downward to deliver a little backspin. These players usually have very good rhythm.
These players can be thought of as diluted aggressive loopers. They prefer playing a ball with light spin. They are also very fast and have good rhythm.
Timo Boll is one of the best players in the world. He's been ranked in the top 10 of the world rankings continuously since 2002 and is a former world number one ... having topped the list at the beginning of 2003 and again at the beginning of 2011.

Thank youBasically, table tennis is one of the many other sports that are fun and enjoyable. Beside it, it gives us a lot of benefits, just as what I have said a while ago. I hope that you will also try it. From its origin up to the present time, it is not forgotten because it marked the lives of some people who are really into it and I hope that in the next generation, it will be passed on to them.
