Q6
1. Q6: What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
During the process of making my product and displaying all of my
work that went along with it. I have used lots of new a different
technologies. And I have used some of these digital technologies as
via technological convergence to research real life products, record
my own data, edit my own content and distribute and present my
work whether it be audio, textual or visual imagery. And doing all of
the from the same machine. And this use of technological
convergence is not uncommon in real life products especially in
smaller niche magazines as it reduces publication and editing costs
as it can all be done by the same person.
2. Blogger is an online programme that allows a user to
create a profile and an online blog to post a multitude of
things on. I used this to present all of the work for my
media coursework and found it very easy to do so as
there are lots of different features that enable you post
different formats of content. And I think that this was
vital for the publication of my documents.
Photoshop is piece of software used to edit pictures in. I
used it to edit all of the pictures I used in my magazine
and also to construct the layouts and final pages in. I
found it a little tricky at first because there are a lot of
different tools that can be used to give different results,
nevertheless once I got the hang of it became very
simple to get professional looking results. However
using it proved time consuming as processing the image
files can sometimes take some time and complications
where easily taken place.
3. Slide share is another online application; that was used
to transform Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents
into smaller documents that could then be embedded
into blogger. This was very useful as it meant I could use
different programs , applications and software and still
be able to distribute everything via blogger. However it
can take sometime for a post to download and then
embed into blogger as it is a third party application.
Prezi is an online application that is used to create
presentations to display work on. It was very similar to
Microsoft PowerPoint but had more features that allowed
you to create more fun and dimensional presentations.
Using Prezi for the first time was challenging as it was
difficult to navigate around and understand what each of
the features did, once I had fully grasped the basics i found
that the end results where presentations of work that
featured a narrative aspects as you can use frames and
arrows to guide th4e reader through them, this being very
useful for incorporating images and text.
4. Microsoft PowerPoint is very similar to word but with
this you can break up the section of content easily with
the use if slides. You can also animate the slides to add
different ways of presenting content. I used word on
some of my written work as it was good for pieces of
text that where best presented when they where broken
down in sections, then onto the slides I could add
headings and images. However again like word, it can be
very boring and dull to present lots of work on.
Microsoft Word is a basic application that is used to
write word documents with the inclusion of pictures
and some simple graphic features. Using this software
was however extremely helpful as it features lots word
précising aspects like spell and grammar check . I carried
out all my word tasks on this prom first (unless it was a
PowerPoint) and then moved them onto other
applications like Prezi and slide share. However the end
results are usually very boring and are not good when
large amounts of word content is being presented.
5. SOUNDCLOUD is an online application used solely for
audio files to be distributed on. A user creates an
account and from there can follow others and post
there own content. I used sound cloud record a voice
clip of me reading out one of my pieces of text for
evaluation. I liked doing this as it helped break away
from all of the visual data and was very easy to use. I
think this was an easy yet successful use of a
technology.
Canon is not a piece of software or a programme it is a
product. Canon are a camera company and this was a
piece of technology I used to take my picture on for my
magazine. The camera I used was a ‘Cannon 550D’ dslr
(digital single-lens reflex). I think it was key to getting the
professional look for my pages that I used a professional
standard camera as it would give optimum results. Also
in the market research I found that the majority of
people in the survey preferred visual content over textual
content therefore getting good quality images was vital
to attracting the desired audience.
6. Facebook is a form of social media that I used as a way
of publish my pages to collect data from a focus group. I
made a small private group within the website and
posted my front cover , contents and double page. Here
member of the group then commented on the successes
of the pages and what they thought about them. Then i
was then able to analyse and interpret this into data for
audience research. This was very easy to use and took
minimal effort, and was effective colleting large amounts
of data quickly and efficiently .
And finally I used a pen drives or a USB stick to save files
onto and take home with me. A USB is in essence a very
small portable hard drive that I found very useful as it
mean I could easily take any work home with my, finish
at home and bring back again. However using USB sticks
can prove tricks as they easily brake and can be lost.
