9. Colors and Value Hue These are the purest and brightest colors. They form the full spectrum of colors which progress around the Primary Color Wheel in gradual increments. Tint It's simply any color with white added. Shade A Shade is simply any color with black added. Tone A Tone is created by adding both White and Black. Any color that is "greyed down" is considered a Tone.

11. Colors When you mix the Main Colors with their "children"you get 6 new colors. YELLOW + ORANGE = YELLOW-ORANGE RED + ORANGE = RED-ORANGE RED + VIOLET / PURPLE = RED-PURPLE BLUE + VIOLET / PURPLE = BLUE-PURPLE BLUE + GREEN = BLUE-GREEN YELLOW + GREEN = YELLOW-GREEN In paint pigments, pure Yellow, pure Red, and pure Blue are theoretically the only hues that can't be created by mixing any other colors. When you mix any 2 of the Pure Hues, you get 3 New "children". YELLOW + RED = ORANGE RED + BLUE = VIOLET / PURPLE BLUE + YELLOW = GREEN

12. Color Harmonies Complementary harmony — is achieved by a combination of any opposite colors in the color wheel. Blue and violet, for instance, are complementary colors. Analogous harmony — means a combination of two or more neigh boring colors in the color chart. Monochromatic harmony — is otherwise referred to as one-mode or one hue harmony. It combines different intensities or values - lightness and darkness or brightness and dullness - of one color only. Examples are blue, light blue, dark blue.

14. Color Harmonies Triad A triadic color scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel. Triadic color harmonies tend to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated versions of your hues. Rectangle (tetradic) The rectangle or tetradic color scheme uses four colors arranged into two complementary pairs. This rich color scheme offers plenty of possibilities for variation. Split-Complementary The split-complementary color scheme is a variation of the complementary color scheme. In addition to the base color, it uses the two colors adjacent to its complement.
