1. Different types of acne exist. Some of them are very mild while
some of them may take weeks to heal and that too with the
most stringent methods employed. Here are some descriptions
of common types of acne.
Whiteheads – Small white bumps that come up
on various regions of the skin, especially the face, are called as
whiteheads. These are actually clogged follicles that have not
been able to wend their way through the surface of the skin.
They are the least dangerous of all forms of acne.
Blackheads – Blackheads happen when the follicles that trap
the material causing acne can push through the skin and break
out on the outside. Here, they undergo chemical reactions with
the outer environment because of the presence of the pigment
melanin in them. This is what makes them take up a black color.
Blackheads can grow to larger sizes.
Papules – Papules are a form of inflammatory acne. They show
up as small pink bumps on the skin, usually soft to touch. They
can aggravate to more serious forms.
Pustules – Pustules are distinctly visible as red and white
eruptions on the skin, where the red forms the circumference
of the eruption and the white forms the middle. The pustule is
2. easily breakable, but shouldn't because it could increase the
aggravation.
Nodules – Nodules are formed when comedos are trapped in
the skin with some amount of pus. The pus is actually formed in
response to the body's defense mechanism as the comedo
bursts inside the skin. These nodules are among the most
difficult-to-treat types of acne. They take a long time to heal
too and require a lot of care and attention. If not taken care of,
they will leave scars when they heal.
Acne conglobata – This type of acne, which is caused due to a
bacterial infection, is one of the most less-encountered types of
acne. It occurs mainly on the buttocks, back and the chest, but
rarely on the face.
