How effective is the combination of
 your main product and ancillary
               texts?
Synergy between products
The music video, digipak and the magazine advert all have the same common theme.
   Using the digipak front cover for the advert is commonly used so we used this
   convention. The digipak and advert have the same photo. The photo is one of the
   locations used in the music videos. This is an example of synergy between the
   three products.
The whole theme of the music video is rebellion. We did this because we wanted
  to reflect the band’s attitude in the video. The band are very anti-establishment
  and do not stick to conventions. However, we mainly followed their conventions
  to portray their attitude through the music video and the singer’s actions.


  The digipak is called ‘work
  hard, play harder’, this relates well
  to the music video because in the
  video, the man is about to go to
  work then he changes his mind
  and has a fun day instead.
  Therefore the name of the album
  reflects the man’s day and his
  attitude. This is the same attitude
  of the band’s.



The combination of the main product which is the music video, and the ancillary
products, which are the digipak and the advert is very effective because they are all
interlinked. They all have the same theme throughout the product.
For the CD and DVD discs, we
have used the two contrasting
outfits which the singer wears
     in the video. This is an
   effective link between the
 digipak and the music video.
  In the first part of the video
   where the singer is getting
 ready for work and doing his
  daily morning routine, he is
 wearing a suit. In the second
     part of the video, he is
   wearing his normal casual
clothes. These are the outfits
       shown on the discs.
Themes of the products
• The first part of the video is the ‘work hard’
  part of the album name, and the second part
  of the video, which is the fun part, is the ‘play
  harder’ part of the album name.
• The digipak shows the fun side of the video
  and the normal side of it through the images
  on the discs.
• The video shows the two contrasting sides by
  having the first part in much duller colours
  than the second part, by the costumes, the
  locations and the actions of the singer.

  • 1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  • 2. Synergy between products The music video, digipak and the magazine advert all have the same common theme. Using the digipak front cover for the advert is commonly used so we used this convention. The digipak and advert have the same photo. The photo is one of the locations used in the music videos. This is an example of synergy between the three products.
  • 3. The whole theme of the music video is rebellion. We did this because we wanted to reflect the band’s attitude in the video. The band are very anti-establishment and do not stick to conventions. However, we mainly followed their conventions to portray their attitude through the music video and the singer’s actions. The digipak is called ‘work hard, play harder’, this relates well to the music video because in the video, the man is about to go to work then he changes his mind and has a fun day instead. Therefore the name of the album reflects the man’s day and his attitude. This is the same attitude of the band’s. The combination of the main product which is the music video, and the ancillary products, which are the digipak and the advert is very effective because they are all interlinked. They all have the same theme throughout the product.
  • 4. For the CD and DVD discs, we have used the two contrasting outfits which the singer wears in the video. This is an effective link between the digipak and the music video. In the first part of the video where the singer is getting ready for work and doing his daily morning routine, he is wearing a suit. In the second part of the video, he is wearing his normal casual clothes. These are the outfits shown on the discs.
  • 5. Themes of the products • The first part of the video is the ‘work hard’ part of the album name, and the second part of the video, which is the fun part, is the ‘play harder’ part of the album name. • The digipak shows the fun side of the video and the normal side of it through the images on the discs. • The video shows the two contrasting sides by having the first part in much duller colours than the second part, by the costumes, the locations and the actions of the singer.
