2. Importance of Volunteer hours
*Allows kids to get involved in their community and do
something for others without getting something in return.
*Sometimes we come across people who spend their free
time volunteering in different organizations and charitable
institutions. Sometimes too, we learn of people who
volunteer in neighborhood drives; whether it's a clean-up
drive; a fund raising for the community or even spending a
few hours helping neighbors take care of their
overwhelming chores.
*The possibilities of volunteering are endless. But really,
Why Is Volunteering Important? Why do people do it; and
some don't? What can we get out of volunteering our time,
effort and sometimes even our resources?

15 Community service hours are
required for all students in order to
graduate.
Counselors recommend that students
have 8 hours completed by the end of
their sophomore year.

Volunteer work looks good for college applications.
Volunteers help make the world a better place.
Young people volunteered at twice the rate of adults with 55
percent of young people volunteering, compared with only 29
percent of adults.
Youth who volunteer are less likely to engage in risky behavior,
are more likely to feel connected to their communities, and tend
to do better in school.
A youth who has a parent who volunteers is nearly three times
more likely to volunteer on a regular basis.
