WHAT TO EXPECT
 Shocking Facts
 SESSION 1: PODCASTING AND THE FUTURE
 SESSION 2: PRE-LAUNCH HOUSE KEEPING
 SESSION 3: THE MEAT-LAUNCH IN 20 MINUTES
 SESSION 4: POST-LAUNCH CONCERNS
SHOCKING FACTS
 In 60 Seconds, 15000 tracks are downloaded on iTunes
 Over 1 billion ACTIVE subscribers on iTunes
 The next frontier is your car: 50% of new cars sold will have Internet
connectivity; by 2025, it will be all of them.
will be
available on
these car
models
These big players are moving into the
dashboard of EVERY car rolling off the
factory lot in 2015 and beyond
In the future, everyone will have a podcast. So
start yours now. When [podcasts] are in cars,
that Top 100 [iTunes] real estate is going to be
all corporations that spend millions of dollars
marketing their shows. There’ll be 80 Discovery
Channel podcasts, 100 ESPN podcasts, and to
be in the Top 100 is going to be damn near
impossible.
 When do you want to tap into this opportunity?
SESSION 1:
PODCASTING AND THE
FUTURE
 WHAT IS PODCAST?
A series of digital media files(either audio, video) that are released in episodes
and often delivered through web syndication feeds(popularly called RSS).
Feeds like this one provide updates whenever there is new content.
 WHAT A PODCAST IS NOT
Any audio recording cannot be referred to as a podcast because it has a
download link, probably sitting outside your primary website. A podcast cannot
be called so, except It can be subscribed to via an RSS subscription.
WHY PODCASTING IS AN EFFECTIVE
MARKETING STRATEGY
 Content is on-demand,targeted(niche-based)
and free
 Breeds connection due to the power of voice.
 Everybody can listen to you because of
directories
 Strong relationships with industry influencers..
 Helps build niche authority
Bonus 1: SUCCESS STORIES
SESSION 2:
PRE-LAUNCH HOUSE KEEPING

Got competitors?
 How do you stand out?
 Do yours differently
 Find your USP
 Be yourself
PROFILING YOUR AVATAR(perfect listener)
In at least 500 words, describe him/her with:
 Name, age, job, situation, income class, lifestyle, etc
 Struggles, obstacles, pain,etc
 What solution can you provide
Ask your typical avatar questions
DETERMINE YOUR PODCAST FORMAT
 Length
 Frequency
 Solo or co-host
 Interviews
SESSION 3:
THE MEAT-LAUNCH IN 20 MINUTES
SUMMARY OF STEPS
1. Record
2. Edit and convert
3. Tag
4. Upload to media host
5. Publish
6. Set up your feed
7. Submit to iTunes
8. Explore other directories
It’s all about the Mic
Your phone
Digital voice recorder
Dynamic microphone
1. RECORDING
2. Edit and convert file to MP3
format
 Free softwares
Others:
WavePad
PodProducer
3. Tagging your MP3 files
 Use ID3 tag editor software to put author
information,title,genre(use podcast),album art,comment
4. Upload to Media file host
 Use cloud-based media hosting services like Libsyn, Blubrry, Podbean
 I like podbean because the smallest plan allows you to offer a mobile
app version downloadable by your listeners.
 Others are Archive.org, Buzzsprout.com, Podgarden.com,
SoundCloud.com, Amazon S3
5. Publish
Website hosting
 You will need to feature your podcasts on your own website if you have serious
plans for converting your listening audience into real followers who you can
eventually extend a service or sales to; or grow a database.
 I suggest building your website on Wordpress because of the vast collection of
plugins you can have access to. Plugins make it easy to add amazing
functionalities to your site.
6. Set up your feed(Demo)
 If you upload your files to a site like Libsyn or Podbean, the feed creation is
done automatically for you.
 Alternatively, if you have your media files hosted on ordinary file hosting
service like Amazon S3 or Archive.org, you will need the Powerpress plugin.
This will generate a one-time feed url for you.
7. Submit to iTunes(Demo)
 Take your feed to Feedburner.com
This ensures your subscribers are still subscribed to your feedburner feed even if
you change where Feedburner gets its feed from.
iTunes will give you a confirmation message, letting
you know that there may be a review process for
your podcast.
Typically within 24 to 48 hours, you will receive an
email letting you know if you’re approved. Three
to five days after that, people can begin
searching and finding your podcast in the iTunes
store.
Other top podcast directories
 Soundcloud
 Iono fm
 Blogtalkradio
 Libsyn
 Castroller
 Podcastdirectory
 Allpodcasts
 Blubbry
BONUS: RESOURCES SUMMARY
 Recording and Editing: Download these free softwares Audacity, Garage Band,
WavePad, PodProducer
 Remote interviews: Skype, Ecamm’s CallRecorder, Pamela.
 Audio Branding: Fiverr is your go-to spot for a cool $5 audio branding.
 Music: MusicAlley.com.There is a wide array of sound effect portals that contain
royalty-free sound effects that are suitable for incorporating into your podcast. Here
are just a couple of sources...
http://www.digital-sound-effects.com, http://www.powerpoint- resources.com/sound-
effects.htm FreeSound.org, FreeSFX.co.uk
 Stock Photography for your posts or podcast: Compfight.com, FreeImages.com,
MorgueFile.com, Corbis
 Design: CorelDraw, Photoshop, or Illustrator, Canva, Picmonkey.
You will need an artwork for your podcast, or a visual illustration for your posts. Usually,
1400×1400 pixels image is iTune’s recommended size, and you can quickly do that if
you know how to use either of these softwares. You could ask me to design for you,
though.
SESSION 4:
POST-LAUNCH CONCERNS
How To Grow Your Audience
 Leverage massive directories
 Connect with your fans
 Build intimacy
 Release fresh content (such that your listeners feel they
need to dig your archives not to have missed anything)
 Be active on Social media
 Leverage on your partners/show guests
BONUS: PODCASTING SUCCESS TIPS
 Known frequency: Just like a newspaper or magazine, podcast listeners will expect a new
episode of your podcast on a regular interval. If you don’t deliver, you’ll lose them.
 Determine Your Audience: Think about what information the people who you are trying to
reach want. Generally, this is not a commercial about your company.
 Promote Your Podcast Elsewhere: You can’t just expect people to find your podcast.
Promote it on your website, Twitter, Facebook,Instagram, etc and at the bottom of your e-
mails.
 Be Patient: It takes a while for a podcast to catch on, and few become huge hits. Don’t
get caught up in numbers. If you’re trying to be a thought leader, maybe 1,000 of the
right people are better than 10,000 random people.
