2. Submarine:
The film was written and
directed by Richard
Ayoade
It was produced by Ben
Stiller, Mark Herbert, Andy
Stebbing and Mary Burke.
Therefore there wasn’t as
many people who
worked on the script
because Richard Ayoade
wrote and directed it so
he developed the idea
form for the play from the
start.
The Avengers Assemble:
Avi Arad decided to
make the film and hired
Zac Penn to write the play
but many other writers
were bought in to help
out in making the film the
best it could be, such as:
Joss Whedon who was a
huge fan of the Avengers
comics so he was
passionate for the film.
3. Submarine:
Submarine was
originated from the
novel of the same
name by Joe
Dunthorne. It holds
the same genre of a
British coming of age
comedy drama.
The Avengers Assemble:
The Avengers
Assemble originated
from The Avengers TV
series and Captain
America. Some of the
characters also came
from different comic
strips and cartoons.
4. Submarine:
The original script came
from the novel of the
same name which was
written by Joe
Dunthorne. But the
person who wrote the
script and was also the
director of the film was
Richard Ayoade. There
wasn't many other
people who inputted on
the writing the script.
The Avengers Assemble:
The script for The
Avengers Assemble was
written by Zac Penn and
Joss Whedon. They also
hired other people who
put in ideas for how the
characters were formed
and many
people/companies asked
to add in other
characters to the story
line but some were
declined.
5. Submarine:
It was harder for them to find the
funding for the film as the
budget was low and that
sometimes means that the film
may not be able to gain as
much profit than a film with a
higher budget.
The companies they got to fund
some of the budget was Film4
Productions, Film Agency for
Wales, Wales creative IP Fund,
Red Hour Films and Warp Films.
It was distributed by Optimum
Releasing (UK) and The Weinstein
Company (US)
The Avengers Assemble:
It would have been easier to
get the funding for this film
because it has a bigger
budget and therefore a
bigger chance for success.
However only a few
companies contributed to
the massive budget for this
film for example:
Marvel studios was used to
create the film and Walt
Disney Studios and Motion
Pictures distributed the film
after it was created.
6. Submarine:
The production
company ‘Warp
Films’ is known for
their independent TV
dramas and short
films. They don't use
high budgets but do
create a lot of
profits.
The Avengers Assemble:
Marvel Studios are
very well known as
they own high
budget films and
have a lot of money
to create more films
and big blockbusters.
7. Submarine:
The film made £2.03
million
The Avengers Assemble:
The film made
$1,518,594,910
8. Submarine:
The producer of the
film was Ben Stiller
and he became
involved because he
had a lot of
experience in
producing films and
is also an actor.
The Avengers Assemble:
The producer of the
film is Kevin Feige who
has an interest and
passion for the
Avengers.
9. Submarine:
The director was
Richard Ayoade who
also wrote the play
originating from the
novel of the same
name. He works with
Warp Films and
wanted to create the
story with a film.
The Avengers Assemble:
The director was Joss
Whedon who is
passionate for the
characters that will
be involved.
10. Submarine:
The film was an easy
shoot but it was difficult
to firstly raise the funds
for the movie. The
casting was difficult as
they had some people
drop out as they have
other commitments but
the shooting didn’t
take as long as other
films would.
The Avengers Assemble:
The shoot was a difficult one
firstly because they had the
script written by Zac Penn
but they then later bought in
Joss Whedon to re-write the
script and make it better. It
was said to be released in
July 2011 but was later
pushed back for a 2010
release, nearly a year later.
This was due to difficulties
with directors and casting. It
took around 5 years to
write/make and direct the
film.
11. Submarine:
The film was shot in 4 main
locations:
Swansea, Wales, UK
Pontsticill Reservoir, Brecon
Beacons National Park, Wales,
UK
Barry, Vale of Glamorgan,
Wales, UK
Penarth, Cardiff, South
Glamorgan, Wales, UK
(cinema).
The Avengers Assemble:
Principal Photography began
on April 25th June in
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
They also shot in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania in the Butler area.
Also in Worthington in a
mushroom farm.
The production then re-located
to Cleveland, Ohio in August
2011. They used the city’s East
9th street and was chosen as a
double for New York’s 42nd
street which is used for the
climatic battle scenes.
They also used different settings
around New York and the
surrounding areas.
12. Submarine:
There wasn’t any part
that was shot in a
studio. It was all shot
in real locations.
The Avengers Assemble:
They tried to film the
majority of the film in
real life locations but
some was needed to
be made and filmed
in studios as the
characters didn’t all
have similar
proportions.
13.
Around 100 actors
submitted video
auditions for the role
of Oliver, Jordana
and Chips. Michael
Sheen and X Factor
contestant Lucie
Jones were originally
cast in the film but
unfortunately
dropped out due to
other commitments.
Robert Downey, Jr
was cant for the Iron
Man and pushed
Whedon into making
the Iron Man the
lead and Whedon
stated that they tried
it but it didn’t work.
But Downey said that
he’s throwing it
down with the other
characters.
14. Submarine:
The production budget
of the film was $1,200,000
which included the
money spent on the
actors, directors,
producers, etc.. It would
have been difficult to
find the budget so if
anything went wrong
and they had to pay for it
then they would have
found it difficult to carry
on funding.
The Avengers Assemble:
The Avengers Assemble had an
estimated value of their budget
but they had to spend more time
and money when they set back
the release date due to
difficulties and made the budget
to $220,000,000. But if they
needed more money to spend it
would have been easier than
Submarine to get the money
from other film companies. The
budget was high due to the
amount of actors/actresses and
all the legal fee’s involved when
creating a movie containing
many characters that had
already been created.
15. Submarine:
The submarine is an independent film
which was on a low budget due to the
film production company they were
with. The still produced profit from the
film. Not as much as The Avengers
Assemble but enough to cover the
money they spent and have some left
over. They didn’t have many problems
like the other film because Submarine
didn’t have as many actors so the
control was greater and better when
creating the film.
The Avengers Assemble:
The Avengers Assemble is a superhero film
which contained many different
superhero’s from comics, films and
many more. The budget was massive
due to the companies that invested in
it. Unlike the independent film which
had lots of different funding but on a
smaller scale. This film only had a few
which contributed the majority of the
budget as the companies were big
firms and had created a lot of profit
from successful films already. They
had more problems however, when it
came to filming and casting as they
had a lot of people involved with in
the film meaning they had less control
over the situation. The production was
set back and people clashed through
out the process. But the film bought in
a huge amount of profit.
