Good Thesis Statement
To start out of making a good research paper is, to know a good thesis statement to write down on
paper and to evaluate an issue or an idea and presents the breakdown and evaluation to your
audience (owl.english.purdue.edu). Make sure you find the main point of your subject for your
paper and try to summarize your thesis and the evidence you are using to support that point. You
should always make sure you have your paper in the right format before you even begin on writing.
Then you explain something to your audience so that it flows well with the rest of your paper
(owl.english.purdue.edu). You write an argumentative paper that makes a claim about a topic and
justifies your claim with specific evidence. Your claim can be an opinion, a policy...show more

Furthermore, always when you are writing a paper is to put as much in your own words as
possible and try not to paraphrase that much and cite as much as possible. In addition, make sure
that the citing matches your references. You then have to proofread your draft paper and to see that
it is in proper format with a good introduction and conclusion then you can start writing your final
paper. However, proofreading is important to go back and revise your paper
(owl.english.purdue.edu). I think the easiest part of conducting a research paper is about what topic
that interests me to write. The things I struggle with most are how to start out writing and putting
it all together on paper. Choosing a good topic and keep from having writer's block when you start
writing. Also check to my grammar, wordiness or making sure it makes sense. However, when it
has been brought to my attention that I am making mistakes and need help I contact a tutor.
Because writing research papers are harder for me to understand and to put it all together to make
any sense. The most important thing for me is looking forward in the remainder of my schooling
is to make sure I write in my forums and my assignments and check my spelling, grammar, citing,
and make sure, when I am doing research to pick a scholarly peer review site or a reliable website.

Sample Thesis Statement
Rewrite your thesis statement from your Illustration final draft. Explain what you believe this
sentence illustrates the reader should expect from your paper. What do you think your strongest
example is from your paper, and why is it a good illustration supporting your thesis? What do you
think is your weakest example from your paper, and how do you believe you could strengthen
/change it to better support your thesis? What are the three strongest transitions you consciously used
within your paper? What specific information does each transition provide to the reader? If you
could re–write your paper at this point, what would you do differently? Discuss three different ways
your paper changed between your first and final draft. Dangerous technology included the Samsung
Galaxy S5, the Samsung Galaxy S7, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The reader should expect that

later realized that it was an explosive phone (3). A perfect example makes the reader aware that it
is the first example in the paper, and that it is a personal example (2). I would give more examples
of the different types of dangerous devices because I only described Samsung Galaxy devices. I
would only give one Samsung example, and I would give an example about the iPhone. I did not
capture the reader's attention because I did not give a variety of examples. The three ways I edited

another sentence. Then I added transitions at the beginning of the

Writing A Thesis Statement
Chapter three explains what a thesis is, gives examples, and informs where the thesis can be located
in an essay. A thesis is summarized in one or two sentences as the main point, main idea or
controlling idea stated in an essay. Some thesis statements are directly stated, implied or suggested.
The writer needs to relate their thoughts about the essay to their thesis, because the thesis directs and
controls the decisions made about the way you write your essay. As you get into more depth of your
essay maybe consider adjusting the thesis statement to your new idea. The thesis statement should be
general. A thesis statement is a claim that can be supported by evidence, but it is not a

HOW TO WRITE A STRONG THESIS STATEMENT A WRITING CENTRE HANDOUT
1. UNDERSTAND THE ACADEMIC WRITING TASK
You can begin to formulate a good thesis statement only after you have got a solid grasp of the
purpose of the assignment. If you're asked to write a paper in response to a specific assignment
question, then your first task is make sure that you clearly understand the academic writing task.
Determine which of the following critical thinking skills you are primarily being asked to apply to
your object(s) of study: analysis comparison evaluation argumentation interpretation reflection
Your thesis statement, then, should take a form that reflects the goal of the writing task.
2. BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF...show more content...
Remember that a tentative thesis statement is not something set in stone; rather, it is something
meant to help you focus your analysis and research so that the writing task becomes manageable.
You should not attempt to start collecting and analyzing evidence until you have an idea of the
main argument you would like make in your paper. Generating the thesis statement, then, can be
thought of as a recursive process. In the early stages of planning and writing, the tentative thesis
helps you focus on the evidence in a certain way, but as you get further along in the writing process
the analysis of evidence should also help you clarify the thesis statement (Rosenwasser et al. 132).
The writers of Writing Analytically recommend that you ask yourself the following questions as you
go through the process of generating a main claim for your essay:
3
What kinds of patterns or implications emerge when I look closely at my evidence?
What kind of evidence and support do I need to support my tentative thesis? What kind of evidence
cannot be adequately accounted for by my tentative thesis? How can I explain the mismatches
between my thesis statement and my selected evidence?
How can I rewrite my thesis statement in order to accommodate the evidence that doesn't fit?
This practice of constantly readjusting the thesis statement to match the evidence and analysis will
ultimately lead you to write a polished and defensible thesis statement in your final

Thesis Statement Analysis
Answer:
Let's review how this response could be improved and see if your edits match.
In the first paragraph, there are two small errors: The thesis statement is good, but attention to detail
is key in an extended response. The first sentence is incomplete: "President Lyndon Johnson makes a
clear argument that while giving money to the poor is not an effective solution to the enduring
problem of poverty." It should be joined to the second sentence: "President Lyndon Johnson makes
a clear argument that while giving money to the poor is not an effective solution to the enduring
problem of poverty, the poor can be trapped in a cycle of poverty and the government should do
what it can to break that cycle and give the poor better opportunities

Thesis Statement About Tattoos
Think Before You Ink
I.Introduction
Attract Reader's Attention: Tattoos are very popular among young adults these days. Some of them
get tattoos to look cool, or they are influenced by other people. For others, tattoos represent a
memory or incident that has a special meaning in their lives.
Thesis Statement: People have different reasons for getting tattoos, but it does not matter what
reason they have, good or bad, they will have to live with this decision for the rest of their lives.
Plan of Development: The problem is that most of them do not think how that tattoo can affect their
lives in the long term. They are exposing themselves to diseases and prejudice.
II.Body of Essay
A.Topic Sentence/Supporting Point #1: Reasons why...show more content...
A good and safe tattoo is not cheap.
Example: I have a friend who always wanted a tattoo. So one day he went to get his tattoo without
knowing how much it was going to cost. When he got to the tattoo shop and saw the price and
realized that he could not afford the tattoo, instead of waiting to save money, he went and got the
tattoo with one of his friends who told him that he could give him the same tattoo for a lot less. He
ended up getting the worst tattoo that I have ever seen and on top of that, it never healed
completely. Now he is thinking about spending more money for a cover up or to have it removed
completely.
C.Topic Sentence/Supporting Point #3: Tattoo discrimination in the workplace.
1.Although tattoos are popular, they can make it hard for a person to find a job.
Example: My brother applied for a job with UPS. He had a telephone interview, which was supposed
to be followed by a meeting. Everything was fine until the employer started talking about the
uniform policy and tattoos should be out of sight. When my brother admitted that he had both arms
tattooed full sleeves, the employer hung up the phone.
2.To reduce the risk of not being able to find a job, people get tattoos that are easily hidden under

Describe your main idea, or what the essay is about, in one sentence. You can usually use the essay
writing prompt or question to form this sentence. Develop a thesis statement, or what you want to

Statements
Part One: Using what you have learned in English class, change the following topics into thesis
statements. Remember: subject + the side of the argument + 3 main points = thesis. State your own
opinion on the topic along with 2–3 reasons for support.
THIS IS FORMAL WRITING. Example– Topic: Controlling the pet population through spaying and
neutering Thesis: Controlling the pet population through spaying and neutering is very important
because it helps prevent the birth of unwanted and neglected animals. It also improves a pet's health
and reduces unruly behavior in animals. 1. TOPIC: Changing high schools
