I now reside in New Zealand ..Land of Milk and Money for producers & exporters, but what about
the local consumers. Fresh milk has become a luxury item with unprecedented prices at the
supermarket.
Background
As babies we were fed milk powder and still grew up strong and healthy., until we could serve
ourselves..so of to the fridge we went and there it was, fresh pure unadulterated milk in glass
bottles…hang on ..what , where, when… not any more..no glass bottles, just plastics and cartons….
Solution ( granulated skim milk powder)
Never one to let my old habits go unchecked , I decided to give milk powder a go.. I was sure it would
be ok in my coffee but what about in the glass or in my cereal..and as a dairy lover I really wasn’t
sure .
Benefits of granulated milk powder
Lasts for ages (compared to liquid milk) the 500g bag I got had a shelf life of 15mths
Easier to handle..lighter and less bulky
Easier to stockpile..you don’t have to run to the shop when your out of milk..just mix up some more
Definitely cheaper..500g makes about 5 litres
You can control the creaminess ..mix to taste
Great in emergency..used in baking and easy to cook with
As nutrious as normal skim milk
Just refrigerate after mixing..because of its granulated nature will dissolve in normal cold water..no
heating to dissolve
Best stored in a fridge after mixed
So, after leaving it overnight , I took a swig..It tasted just like the green top (fresh skim milk), that I
normally would drink..It actually tasted creamier.
Well worth changing over.
