2. What is a vitamin?
Vitamins make people's bodies work properly.
There are two types fat soluble and water soluble
meaning one can be stored in the body and one you
must receive everyday because it is not stored in the
body and is lost through urine.
3. What does Vitamin D do?
Vitamin D strengthens bones because it helps the
body absorb bone-building calcium.
4. How much Vitamin D do you need?
Teens need 15 micrograms (600 IU) of vitamin D
from food or sunlight a day. However if you do not
get that much consult a doctor about supplements.
Adults need a similar amount but seniors need more
closer to 2o micrograms a day.
5. Where can you get Vitamin D?
This vitamin is unique — your body manufactures it
when you get sunlight on your skin! You can also get
vitamin D from egg yolks, oily fish such as salmon,
tuna, and sardines, and fortified foods like milk, soy
milk, and orange juice.
