This document contains excerpts from and commentary on Ben Stein's film "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" which promotes intelligent design. The summary is:
1) Ben Stein argues in the film that Darwinism has led to problems in society and is taught as undisputed fact rather than theory.
2) Critics argue the film misappropriates Holocaust imagery to discredit evolution and that Darwinism cannot explain Hitler's actions.
3) The document provides counterarguments and recommends additional resources to get more perspectives on the intelligent design debate.

3. “Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is the philosophical basis of anti-Christian culture. It is the source of all the rot—runaway statism, institutionalized atheism, eugenics, ‘gay pride’ parades, ‘transgender’ restrooms, the destruction of ‘inferior races,’ and all the rest. If it stinks, Darwinism is at the root of it.” http://www.chalcedon.edu/articles/article.php?ArticleID=2936 Lee Duigon on Darwinism
14. What are the consequences over time of teaching this one-sided worldview as if it were fact rather thantheory? How will ideas of morality change, if life is thought to be purposeless and undirected? How will the role of Government change, if the individual is taught by The State that one is accountable only to ones self? How will the role of “science” change, if “Big Science” alone determines our worldview? Expelled
15. “Big science has expelled smart ideas from the classroom … What they forgot is that every generation has its Rebel!! That rebel, Ben Stein, travels the world on his quest, and learns an awe-inspiring truth … that educators and scientists and being ridiculed, denied tenure, and even fired – for merely believing that there might be evidence for ‘design’ in nature. Perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance. In the film Ben says ‘Enough’ – And NOBODY messes with Ben.”

23. Orthodoxy “If they are Darwinists and they owe their jobs to being Darwinists, they are not going to challenge the orthodoxy because that would challenge the whole basis of their jobs and their lives. So they are not going to challenge the ideology that has given them lush positions in real life.”
24. Advancement “And there hasn’t been much progress in Darwinism since [the life of Darwin]”
25. A Theory of Everything “Darwinism explains so little. It doesn’t explain how life began. It doesn’t explain how gravity works to keep the planets in their orbits. It doesn’t explain how thermodynamics works. It doesn’t explain how physics or the laws of motion work.”
26. Science “Love of God and compassion and empathy leads you to a very glorious place, and science leads you to killing people.”
27. Morality “Anyway, I don’t give a [profanity] whether a person calls himself a scientist. It doesn’t earn any extra respect from me, because it’s not as if science had covered itself with glory, morally, in my time. Scientists were the people in Germany telling Hitler that it was a good idea to kill all the Jews.”
28. Cheap Shot #1 “Anyway, I don’t give a [profanity] whether a person calls himself a Christian. It doesn’t earn any extra respect from me, because it’s not as if Christianity had covered itself with glory, morally, in my time. Christians were the people in Germany telling Hitler that it was a good idea to kill all the Jews.”
29. Morality “If you’re a purely materialistic naturalist you would have no objection [to the Holocaust] because no human life has any meaning.”

79. Stein quoting Darwin “With savages, the weak in body or mind are soon eliminated. We civilized men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination. We build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed and the sick. Thus the weak members of civilized societies propagate their kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man. Hardly anyone is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed.”
80. With savages, the weak in body or mind are soon eliminated; and those that survive commonly exhibit a vigorous state of health. We civilized men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination. We build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed and the sick; we institute poor-laws; and our medical men exert their utmost skill to save the life of every one to the last moment. There is reason to believe that vaccination has preserved thousands, who from a weak constitution would formerly have succumbed to small-pox. Thus the weak members of civilized societies propagate their kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man. It is surprising how soon a want of care, or care wrongly directed, leads to the degeneration of a domestic race; but excepting in the case of man himself, hardly anyone is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed. Reality
81. The aid which we feel impelled to give to the helpless is mainly an incidental result of the instinct of sympathy, which was originally acquired as part of the social instincts, but subsequently rendered, in the manner previously indicated, more tender and more widely diffused. Nor could we check our sympathy, even at the urging of hard reason, without deterioration in the noblest part of our nature. The surgeon may harden himself whilst performing an operation, for he knows that he is acting for the good of his patient; but if we were intentionally to neglect the weak and helpless, it could only be for a contingent benefit, with an overwhelming present evil. Hence we must bear without complaining the undoubtedly bad effects of the weak surviving and propagating their kind Read on

84. Hitler “Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.” (MK) “We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.” (1933)
85. Hitler “Sparta must be regarded as the first Völkisch State. The exposure of the sick, weak, deformed children, in short, their destruction, was more decent and in truth a thousand times more humane than the wretched insanity of our day which preserves the most pathological subject, and indeed at any price, and yet takes the life of a hundred thousand healthy children in consequence of birth control or through abortions, in order subsequently to breed a race of degenerates burdened with illnesses.”

92. Anti-Defamation League The film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed misappropriates the Holocaust and its imagery as a part of its political effort to discredit the scientific community which rejects so-called intelligent design theory. Hitler did not need Darwin to devise his heinous plan to exterminate the Jewish people and Darwin and evolutionary theory cannot explain Hitler's genocidal madness. Using the Holocaust in order to tarnish those who promote the theory of evolution is outrageous and trivializes the complex factors that led to the mass extermination of European Jewry.
93. “Jews are not pioneers. They do not go conquering the wild world or overpowering the hazards of nature. They settle among other civilisations, preferably among the rich. They tend to migrate from poorer to richer lands. They do so always as a group, immediately forming their own separate community.” Who said it?
94. “[L]ivingin agreement with the letter of the law but dishonestly, derives from the pharisaic attachment to rules but not to ethics. The exploitation of rules, of imprecisely written laws, of gaps in them, of their multitude and inconsistencies, activities on the verge of legality, tax evasion techniques, all formally within the law but unethical, derive from the rabbinical casuistry, from the mentality of deriving ethics from the written law. Yet, such a swindler, acting within the law, has in fact no moral respect for any law.”
95. “What we consider as the Jewish people today refers to a tragic community, a people that has not recognised the time of its visitation. It is those who did not recognise Jesus Christ as the awaited Messiah. Those Jews who followed Christ merged within the Christian universality. Those who rejected Him became wanderers throughout the world, among believers of other religions, jealously nurturing their chosenness, this messianic consciousness, which gives a defining mark to their civilisation.”

97. “The presence of such people in European politics as Franco guaranteed the maintenance of traditional values in Europe and we lack such statesmen today. Christian Europe is losing against atheistic socialists today and this has to change.”
