Project 2:
Explore a Field to Write for a Client (15%)
In this project, you will situate your interests and career goals by conducting
research to write for a client. Your client will be the University of Idaho’s Career
Center. You will have two options to choose from for this project.
 Option 1. If you are interested in pursuing professional writing as a career,
explore this field or a specific job within this field.
 Option 2. If you are not interested in pursuing a career in professional writing,
explore another field you are interested in or a specific job within that field.
Learning Objectives. After completing this project, you should be able to:
 use a research dossier to gather and analyze statistical data and other
information to uncover trends and make comparisons,
 graphically represent data by choosing the appropriate type of graphic for data
comparisons,
 apply principles of effective document design and prose style for maximum
readability,
 apply principles of effective graphic design to compose an event flyer,
 compose a career guide and event flyer that adhere to a client's brand.
Project Deliverables:
 Deliverable 1: Research Dossier. I recommend using Evernote or a similar tool.

 Deliverable 2: Career Guide: about 750 words plus title page, graphics, and a
bibliography. Graphics will form a prominent part of this deliverable.
