TEAM REVIEW
Could do better…
• Create more scoring opportunities and cut up teams more directly
• Inconsistent week to week
• Lack of talk/combinations for a team that’s been together for so
long
• Don’t always play for each other
• Most of us have a gap when it comes to the basics e.g. control,
passing, running, shooting etc
• Structure goes to shit when subbing
What we do well…
• Build up play
• People get along, no dick heads
• People are trying hard on the field
• When we get it right our football looks pretty and can hold ball
• Defence improved towards end of season
AREAS OF FOCUS FOR THE SEASON
1. Team feeling comfortable in their positions i.e. what’s required of you in defence and attack
2. Team that is attacking orientated – we create lots of chances
3. Individuals feel they’ve improved over the season; to become a skilful player on the ball
4. Shared team goal
5. Attitudes - Fun to play and train, encouragement, play for each other
6. Values – Start the stronger team, compete for the ball, positive play, and have fun
HOW DO WE GET THERE?
1. Improve comfort on the ball by improving: first touch, running with the ball, passing
2. Increase movement on and off the ball by improving: pass and move, transition, runs off the ball
3. Create 30 attacking drives per game by having clear roles and responsibilities i.e. what’s expected of you
4. Training targeted at improving the basics of play and individual improvement
5. Improved warm-up and training routines

FORMATION: 4-4-2 DIAMOND
Why this formation?
• To dominate midfield in attack and defence
• Use every player on the pitch and create overloads in defence/attack
• Utilise our speed and create chances up front
• City 7 opposition tend to...
o Put their best players in midfield and one upfront. Quality doesn’t normally sit out wide
o Struggle to defend balls just wide of the 18 yard
o Struggle to get the ball out of their own half so overloading upfront will help

BASICS OF OUR PLAYING STYLE
In attack…
• Play more direct to reduce number of passes to get forward. Less
passes, means less errors.
• Patient and more creative in the box
• Midfield - DCM and CAM play as quarterbacks
• Backs - Left and right backs get forward, with CBs splitting
• Forwards – one always holding the line, other dropping and go
wide when needed
• Front two work as a team to create chances
o Lots of runs to 18 yard edge with passes cut back in
o Front two giving lots of return balls to supporting 5
In defence…
• Opposition half - pressure the ball and hold a higher line
• In our half - play to structure and intercept pass
• Keep to 25 meters between front and back lines
• Hold to 18 yard line
• Our weakness will be counter attacking goals, but in return we’re
going to create more turnovers leading to more attacking
chances in the right area of the pitch
• Leave wide attacking players on opposite side of play
