4. Genre
Both of these music videos are of the
performance type
Black Dog by Led Zeppelin is a classic
rock song released in 1971
The Fear by Ben Howard is a new folk
song released in 2011
5. Camera shots
Black Dog uses lots of fast paced shots
to go with the higher tempo music
The Fear has a lot of more sustained
shots
The camera angles and shots are hardly
ever the same on the black dog video
The Fear uses a few different angles
and shots that it flicks between
throughout the video
6. Mise En Scene
Ben Howard is just wearing normal
looking clothes in the fears video
Led Zeppelin are all wearing very typical
rockstar clothes
7. Editing
The black dog video uses cross fades to
transfer between specific shots for effect
Ben howard uses only straight cuts to
transfer between shots
8. Similar shots
The videos both use the same shot that
is a close up of the guitar looking up the
neck
This is used to show how skilled the
guitarists are
9. Differences in shots
The Fear has lots of shots of just the
crowd and their reactions to the song
Led Zeppelins video is always focused
on the band
10. Lighting
Both videos are quite dark
Black Dog is a bit darker as the only
light is coming from the spotlight
The Fears’ setting has other lights
around the room the stage is in which is
why you can see the crowd so quickly
compared to the Black Dog video
11. Effects
None of the videos use any effects as
they are supposed to just be live
performances
12. Setting
The video for ‘The Fear’ was shot at a sold
out show in Falmouth, Cornwall on the 10th
October 2011.
The video for Black Dog was recorded at
Earls Court in 1975
Led Zeppelin are performing in a much
larger venue than Ben Howard (it’s an
arena) as they were extremely popular
Ben Howard is performing at a noticeably
smaller venue as he is not as famous as
Led Zeppelin.
